“No, Kadar.” She heard Dacia’s frantic cry, it was a painful and hurting cry. “No!”
Fear gripped her heart, and her blood ran cold.
Dacia had never sounded like so before.
Desperate, pleading and weak.
Iola understood that she was inside Kadar’s mind.
And Dacia was with the burly guardsman. But what was it that was happening?
She focused hard, pushing herself, her mind resolute, her body stiffening at the anticipation of what she was attempting to do.
One more forceful mental thrust and she was inside Kadar’s mind, taking over all of his senses.
Dacia’s image floated up before her eyes through Kadar’s.
The mercenary had several bruises on her face and neck, and a few bleeding cuts. She seemed to be kneeling over her, no, over Kadar.
The bearlike guardsman was lying on the ground, Iola discovered, and he was looking up at the afternoon sky beyond Dacia.
Dacia’s bloodied face loomed over his, looking down, her eyes blackened and tear-filled.
“No, Kadar, no!” Dacia yelled again. “No!”
Iola felt the grip of cold fear on her beating heart like never before.
The big man was badly injured and down.
She could sense and feel everything Kadar was, his pain and his fear.
Kadar was dying.
