“Look it’s the Null!” Simon breaths hoarsely as we walk over the peak of a hill. A large ice sculpture with glassy mirrors on each side, a large weasel is carved as an ice sculpture sitting above.
“A weasel? Is that the symbol of Theia?” I ask
“Yep, it’s because the elders of Theia saw the weasel as a magnificent ice beast and looked upon them with great respect,” Simon informs me
“A weasel… Gotta say I’m kinda disappointed, I mean it’s a rodent. Is that how the other planets see us? As a rodent?” I exclaim.
“Probably,” Simon says shrugging. “Let’s go, we don’t have much more to walk.” And so we trudge on, through the pale fresh fallen snow, and up to a disappointing statue. As we grow nearer, I notice words carved into the icy surfaces, still too far away to read. The snow here is heavy but soft, it falls slowly from the sky and gets tangled in your hair.
As we reach the Null the first thing I notice is a corpse, or more accurately a skeleton, sitting on the ground. Ivory white and covered with snow and ice, beside it is a rotted staff and a shield forever frozen to the ground, whoever it is has been dead for a long time.
I advert my gaze to the mirrors. I see the names, Utu, Luthar, Afon, and Aswathi. The planets of fire, Earth, Water, and Nature. The mirror of Utu glows a radiant royal orange, The others sit dark and dull. Each mirror has some sort of insert of a crystal resting on top of it, only Utu’s remains. Simon walks up to the darkened portals and places a hand on each. They are all solid.
“Unactivated…” he mutters softly and shakes his head, He turns towards me, “This isn’t good.”
“Why? One of the portals is still glowing! That’s good right?” I ask demonstrating by putting my hand into the orange glow.
“That’s the portal to Utu, you know, the planet of fire? It may be too hot for me to use my ice, I’ll be incredibly weakened.” He chides
“Oh…” I notice something behind him. “Well, I don’t think we have a choice…”
“Maybe we could figure out how to activate a different one?” Simon groans.
“I don’t think that would be the best idea…” I say pointing behind him. Simon turns quickly to see the army growing ever so close. Simon’s eyes go wide. He grabs my hand and shoves me into Utu.
