The moment Dr. Jerami steered the car outside the gates of her mansion, a group of people intercepted its advance. One of the five people standing in front of the car was Lei. The other one was Carl. That was the name Luna heard from Sol.
“Wow, what a revelation,” Sol smiled with sarcasm. “Carl and Lei are friends. Do you know something about this, Dr. Jerami?”
“I don’t,” Dr. Jerami answered, looking upset. “We will change targets today. I’ve had enough of this rebellious boy. Luna, Sol, your training starts now. Look closely into those people.”
“What are we supposed to see?” Sol asked, squinting at the five people in front of their car.
Luna was doing the same thing. He was straining to see what Dr. Jerami wanted them to see, until tears filled his eyes and glowing smoke of yellow, blue, and green formed around those five people. On their chest was a hardly noticeable white light. It was faintly glowing, thumping like a heartbeat.
“Can you see it now? The sin swallowing up their body and their soul being extinguished?”
“The smoke surrounding them… are those sins?” Sol asked, further narrowing his eyes.
“And those white lights are souls?” Luna asked, amazed at the tiny white lights he was seeing but also disturbed that it was too small compared to their sin.
“You’ve got it all right,” Dr. Jerami replied.
“I’m expecting dark smoke not rainbow-colored,” Sol admitted.
“Red is Pride. Orange is Greed. Yellow is Envy. Green is Lust. Blue is Gluttony. Indigo is Anger. Violet is Sloth.”
“Your son is filled with envy,” Sol smiled. “I understand now.”
“How can we save them?” Luna asked, excited at the thought that he can save people.
“Sol will take care of the souls. Luna, you will focus on sin,” Dr. Jerami instructed. “You are powerful enough to weaken them but you must never touch that white light. Even with the slightest touch from you, it will completely vanish. Be careful with that.”
“Okay,” Luna was somehow expecting that but at least he heard from Dr. Jerami that he is powerful enough to fight sins.
“It will take a strong resolve to weaken sins as well as to strengthen souls. The two of you need to have a stronger drive,” Dr. Jerami demanded. “Sol will shield souls while you fight, Luna. Once sins are incapacitated, Sol will power up the souls and assist them in taking over those bodies. If a soul becomes bigger than sin, the former can finally fight the latter on its own. They can either choose to stay bigger than their sin or let it take over their body again.”
“If they chose the latter, our efforts will be in vain!” Sol complained, getting exhausted at the thought of those people choosing sins over redemption.
“Can’t I destroy sins?” Luna asked, wanting to keep those bodies safe and sound for good and avoid wasting their efforts.
“You can only destroy sin once it had completely devoured the soul residing in a body where it originated,” Dad explained. “We need to move now. We will take care of the others. Luna, Sol, focus only on Carl.”
“Okay, Dad,” Luna and Sol chorused. “Let’s go.”
The four of them moved out of the car.
“Son, I told you to stop nourishing your envy,” Dr. Jerami was sad at what her son had become. “Why won’t you listen? Why accompany them instead of me? Do you want to destroy people instead of helping them?”
“Yes, that’s what I want,” Carl coldly answered and the yellow smoke covering his body intensified and formed a scythe around his arms.
The same happened with his four comrades. Carl attacked Dr. Jerami but Luna and Sol quickly interfered.
Luna was surprised with his own body. He was running towards Carl when he felt a surge of strength burst from within him and, like their opponents, his arms were surrounded by dark gleaming light that was shaped like a scythe. Seeing it up close, he could notice an intricate pattern glowing on both sides of the glowing blades.
Meanwhile, the hands of Sol were surrounded by white light like the souls he needed to touch.
Luna waved his scythe at Carl which the latter dodged with ease.
“Weaken him, Luna,” Dr. Jerami reminded him as she took care of two opponents at once. Dad was also doing great warding off Lei and another enemy surrounded by a blue smoke.
Sol was getting impatient as he waited for a chance to touch that light at Carl’s chest. He also wanted to help Luna but the white light around his hands was not for offense. He had to turn it off to be able to hurt Carl even for a bit. But that envious man was tougher than Sol was expecting. Sol could see that his every blow made his twin brother’s arms tremble.
Luna could feel Carl’s envy in every wave of his scythe. It was exhausting, but every time he was at a disadvantage, he remembered Dr. Jerami’s words. He had to be stronger than Carl’s envy.
The scythe around Luna’s arms intensified as he summoned more strength within him. He could sense that Carl was weakening the more their blades collided. The scythe around Carl’s arms were slowly breaking apart.
Sol was closely following their movements, raining punches at Carl whenever he can, waiting for the scythe to shatter and leave Carl defenseless. That was the only time Sol can touch that white light on his chest.
Luna hacked Carl relentlessly, until the scythe on the latter’s left arm shattered back into yellow smoke. He was on his way to destroying the glowing blade on Carl’s right arm when he got distracted by a gasp.
Dad had been stabbed by Lei on his right leg.
“DAD!!!” Luna and Sol rushed over their father.
Luna angrily waved his lustrous arms at Lei and successfully shattered one of her scythes while Sol checked up on Dad.
“Don’t turn your back from your enemies!” Dad yelled, quickly standing up and pushed Luna down on the ground, away from the scythe of Carl.
Dad successfully saved Luna from the deadly blow, but not his own body. The glowing blade pierced his back and exited his chest, showering his blood all over Luna.
