Ch 4-2 Ashim befriends an animal
Ashim sees a herd of a species that is said to be dying out. He plays with them and mimics them and helps them fend off a natural predator with the help of the gang.
When the others are sleeping, Ashim wakes up and sees an animal limping about. He walks up to it and it is friendly. They play together until Nima and the man wake up.
‘What are you doing here?’ says the man.
‘This poor guy is injured’.
‘Or gal!’ says Nima.
‘Ok ok. Anyway, this creature here is limping. It seems lost’.
Nima: We should bring it back home if we can’.
‘Where should we go?’ says the man.
The creature points its head in one direction.
‘Ok, then we go this way!’
‘But what about the Lost Land?’ says the man. ‘Do we really have time for-? Oh, never mind.’
As they walk they see wonderful sights. They pass through clouds and birds dash out of the clouds. Scene of Ashim looking back at a bird.
‘We must be at a very high altitude.’
‘I didn’t even notice it’.
The animal is moaning on the albu’s back.
‘This is the right way, right?’ says Ashim.
Creature moans again.
They reach an old altar, surrounded by circular shaped ruins, covered in snow. There they find fellow members of its species.
‘Alright, are any of these your family?’ says Ashim.
The creature moans in disappointment.
‘Hey, what are they doing?’
They’re going up to the altar and bowing.
‘Looks like they’re worshipping something. There’s no telling what kinds of magic come from the time before the Big Freeze.’
‘Let’s watch’. They hide behind a pillar.
One of the creatures then offers up another creature of the same species. It disappears on the altar and is replaced with a corneorite.
‘What?’
‘Did they just offer it up for a corneorite?’
‘That’s preposterous!’
‘So they give up the weak in exchange for food?’ ‘It must be because they’re desperate’.
‘Then what will happen…’ ‘To this one here?’
‘But it’s its home. We can’t look after it ourselves’.
‘Then we must hope for the best’.
‘It might be fine’.
The creature’s ears prick up as it sees its family. It runs towards them.
‘They look happy!’
‘But what are they going to do if they’re out of nutrition?’
‘It’s nature’.
‘But’, says Ashim, ‘Come on’, says the man.
They set camp in a cave nearby.
The next morning, Ashim wakes up early and sneaks back to the altar.
He recognises the limping of the creature they ‘saved’. Its family members are dragging it towards the altar. It lets out a cry for help when it sees Ashim.
‘No!’ Ashim cries.
He runs toward it and stands in between it and its family. It limps away and Ashim goes after it. They run into the cave Nima and the man are staying in.
Nima: What have you done?
Ashim: Let me explain!
I see…
What do you think?
Well, if we bring it back they’ll just sacrifice it again. We can’t take it with us either. We need to find it a new home.
And not with something of the same species. They’ll just pick it out as the weakest and sacrifice it again.
Well, all we can do for now is take it along with us.
Got it.
They continue on with their journey, and see many birds fly through the clouds again.
When they come down the huge mountain range, they see a village at the foot of the mountain.
‘Its limp has gotten better!’
‘I wonder if someone from this village will take it?’
They ask around but no one will take it. Disappointedly, they fall asleep.
At night, the creature wakes up and goes down to a fishing hole at the end of the village. It dives in and using its multiple tails, catches a few fish.
When the village wakes up they see what the animal has done. They ask it to go fishing again and it catches more fish.
‘Brilliant!’
‘This creature is amazing!’
‘Look at it go!’
*a young woman whispers into his ear*
Ah, I see, it’s a he. Well anyway, look at him go!
Two villagers are playing a fictional board game. A kid brings him over and teaches him how to play.
‘Well, he still needs some learning but he’s a smart one. I’ve never met one of his species before.
Next he is seen rolling around with the kids’.
‘He’s friendly!’
They give him a puzzle.
‘Wow, he can do puzzles too!’
‘I feel like we’ve been blessed with an animal like this.
Ashim: So you’ll take him?!
Villager: Sure, if he wants to. It looks like he’s capable of doing various odd jobs. He’s welcome here. He’s a smart one.
‘Thanks!’ says Ashim.
Night
‘What an amazing animal. I wonder if they’re all that smart.’
‘If they know how and when to make an offering to an altar, they probably are.’
‘The types of magic we’ve seen, is really cool! The people of the time before the big freeze, I wonder what kind of magic they used?’
‘But you know, the people of that time didn’t know it. They had no ability to utilise the magic that the land held.’
‘What a waste!’ says Ashim.
Animal can be seen looking at the moon.
