Calyx Sparks
The whole day, Calyx forced any thoughts of 'IT' away. He felt like he was just going through the motions of regular life all day. He was so anxious he actually cleaned his room.
At dinner, his mom called his name. Calyx looked up to see the concerned expression on her face. "You've been sighing all day. Is something wrong? Is it about your pen pal friend?"
Calyx shook his head. "Didn't sleep well." He murmured. He didn't have the energy to say anything else. He finished the last bite of his dinner and got up wordlessly, heading towards his room.
He felt bad, but he needed to just lay down in his bed and try to relax. He glanced at his mom before turning the corner to go up the stairs. She was staring at the front door anxiously. Calyx knew why. His dad had skipped out on family dinner again. Calyx shook his head in disgust.
Before he went to bed, he wrote his return letter to 'Plant'. He just scribbled down normal stuff like the party and commented on how excited he was that they would be going to school together. It took less than 10 minutes. He dragged himself out to the mailbox to put the letter in, then he dragged himself to his bed and fell asleep.
The only thing he dreamed about was a voice saying, It is coming. Soon. You cannot defeat us.
The next morning, he disregarded the dream and got ready for school. When he arrived at school everything was just how it had always been except for one thing.
Every corner Calyx turned, every hallway he walked down, he found himself searching for 'Plant', even though he didn't even have a hint of what he looked like. He probably wouldn't even know if he saw him. The whole day passed by rather quickly. He was looking forward to seeing the tryouts for the swim team after school.
About 15 minutes in, a strange name was called out. Adriel Llyr. He glanced up briefly and saw the blonde boy trying out. After he was done, he was sent to sit down where everybody else was.
When he got close enough for Calyx to really see him, they met eyes. Adriel had one blue eye and one green eye. But that's not what really stunned Calyx. What stunned Calyx was the fact that when they met eyes, such a burst of burning, thrilling energy filled him so much, that… he passed out.
