After the early morning meeting, the only one to greet him at the door was the servants. It was too early even for Damian.
Asheron sighed and went upstairs to lay in his bed. He let his mind wander to the events that happened at the meeting and the things he would have to do later.
He felt that the number of tranquil days he had were becoming fewer and fewer.
"Ash?"
Asheron turned to see glowing blue eyes peeking at him through the doorway.
"Yes, Aloise."
Aloise hesitated.
"What was the meeting about?"
Asheron frowned and sought up.
"A vampire went missing. She was Lord Henry's lover. Some of the nobles think it could grow into a bigger problem later on so they want me to do some...investigating. Tonight."
"Oh..."
Asheron stared at Aloise who was looking around the bedroom.
"Is... something wrong?"
"No...well, it's a secret. I'll tell you tomorrow after your whole investigation thing is over."
"Whatever it is you can tell me now. It won't bother me."
Aloise chuckled gently and smiled.
"It's a secret." He said again as he closed the door.
Asheron stared at the closed door and shook his head, laying back down. He didn't get back up until a few hours later to get Damian.
He found him in the library. He was reading a thick black book as he paced around the circle of shelves.
"Damian."
Damian jumped at the sound of Asheron's voice and the book in his hands was snapped shut.
Putting his hand over his heart, Damian laughed and looked at his father.
"You scared me. I don't want you to think that I'm slacking off. I do have the reports done...well most of them anyway and-."
Asheron held up his hand and Damian stopped speaking.
"The reports will have to wait. Remember when I said one day I'd tell you what our family's profession was before we were nobles?"
"Yes!" Damian said quickly, unable to hide the excitement in his voice.
"Today is that day. Follow me."

As Asheron lead Damian to the South part of the house the halls visibly grew darker and thick dust covered the walls.
"This was your grandfather and grandmother's room." Asheron explained as he stopped in front of a large brown door.
Damian hummed in reply.
Asheron then pulled out a silver key from his pocket and unlocked the door with a strained click.
"It's been a long time since anyone has been here. I think I'll let the maids start cleaning it again."
Damian hummed again and Asheron looked back at him. His brown eyes were wide with anticipation.
Asheron smiled and opened the door. Aside from all the dust, the room was quite grand. This room was the only room with entirely white Walls. The curtains, carpet, and bedsheets had a blue and silver themed patterns. A large closet with silver doors took over the left wall.
And above the giant bed was a portrait of a man and woman sitting next to each other. The man had long golden hair tied back in a ponytail. His light blue eyes seemed to hold a playful gleam despite of his serious facial expression.
The woman next to him didn't seem playful at all. Her face was beautiful but cold as if it was carved from marble. Her dark grey hair was braided into a bun, and her brown eyes seemed black in the portrait.
Asheron stood there staring at the portrait nearly forgetting what he came in there to do. It had been so long since he'd seen them.
They weren't bad parents but they were mostly busy with work to spend time with him.
Asheron's lips twitched up for a moment. They were vampires and they didn't have "time". He didn't miss them much when they first went to the crypt, but he couldn't lie and say he didn't miss their presence from time to time.
"Wow, he looks just like Aloise. If Aloise was older and had facial hair."
Damian said snapping Asheron out of his thoughts.
Damian had turned on the flashlight on his phone and was also looking at the portrait.
"And you look like her, father."
"Well, she is my mother." Asheron said walking to the closet.
He opened it and lifted the floorboards to reveal a dusty brown case.
"Yeah... I don't think I'd want a portrait of myself in my room. I'd feel like it's looking at me."
"Damian." Asheron called him over.
Damian went quiet instantly and shinned the light on the case.
Asheron flipped the latches and with a pop, the case opened.
"What...is this?" Damian asked squatting down next to Asheron.
It was a silver flintlock pistol with a purple jewel embedded in the handle.
Asheron picked it up and handed it to Damian.
"It's a weapon used by bounty hunters. Only our family has it."
"Wait, bounty hunters!"
Asheron ignored him and picked up a small glass vial with a light purple liquid inside.
He held it up to his eye.
"This is vampire poison."
"Vampire poison? I didn't even know vampires could get poisoned."
"Of course we can. We can get poisoned by drinking bad blood or...from this. We weren't just bounty hunters, we were scientist. Some of the bounties were given to the family to do experiments on for a discount. That's how we created this."
Asheron paused for a moment and looked at Damian.
"So... technically we were not born nobles. We were given our title later as a payment."
"Oh." Damian blinked and waited for Asheron to continue.
Asheron turned away, placed the poison back in the case and closed it.
"That's all. You keep that gun for now just in case one of the vampires at 'Randells' gets too rowdy."
"Randells?"
Asheron stood up.
"I'll explain on the way."
