Some of the stuff that should've been at the end of the last chapter was cut due to length so there in this one.

My dad takes a quick look at my injures my left eye is swollen shut and my head hit concrete. My head is in a lot of pain and I'm barely conscious.

Matthew: He'll be fine. Let's go.

My sister checks on me.

Skyla: No dad he's hurt and it's my fault.

Sebastian: No it's mine I can't catch.

Matthew: You're right Sebastian this is your fault and you deserve it.

We hurried to the car tensions brewing between us. We reach my sister and move to the back seat and we drive off.

Skyla: Dad why didn't you help earlier.

Matthew: Well I prefer to leave the fighting up to the Cardinal.

Skyla: So you were hoping he would show up. What were you doing?

Matthew: Before I helped I was keeping score.

Skyla: What do you mean keeping score.

Matthew: Well Skyla you knocked out 3 enemies Sebastian you knocked 1.

My sister and I sit in amazement is this really what he's thinking about now.

Matthew: Skyla I'm so proud of you and Sebastian you weren't completely useless in that fight.

My dad was somehow very excited when saying that. He said I wasn't completely useless which is the nicest thing he said to me in a while.

Matthew: Remember Sebastian when your sister has powers and she's in charge of saving the city you aren't completely useless.

Matthew: You two fought well together. Skyla you'll be a great hero and Sebastian you'll be an ok sidekick

My sister is still comforting me she's holding my head in her arms it's taking away the pain and giving me the emotional support I need. I can barely speak I manage to say.

Sebastian: It hurts so much I think I'm dying.

Matthew: Sebastian SHUT UP I CAN'T STAND YOUR WHINING. When people got hurt in my day we told them to "man up and deal with it".

Being yelled at increased my headache enough to make tears flow from my one good eye.

Matthew: Oh great now he's crying you see Skyla this is why you're the better child.

Skyla: This is why mom is the better parent.

My dad is almost burned by that line he laughs the counters.

Matthew: You think your mom could've won that basketball game or defeated Big Brutus?

Minutes of silence pass then I can somehow see out of both eyes. And my head doesn't feel like it's gonna explode.

Skyla: Your eye isn't black anymore.

My sister hands me a mirror I look in it to see my looks like it was never swollen. Dad was right. Mean but right.

Sebastian: Dad I'm healed.

Matthew: I told you. I knew you were fine you've got fast regeneration.

We arrive home mom still isn't back yet she's a nurse so long hours are usual luckily we've already eaten and we can get ready for bed soon.

Matthew: Well didn't we have fun.

Skyla: I enjoyed it except that part where you almost let us get beat up.

Matthew: Skyla I'm sorry I'm gonna make it up to you. I promise.

My dad looks at the clock it's getting late almost night time.

Matthew: Anyway I must be going the city needs the Cardinal. Todd and the new recruit can't protect it forever.

Sebastian: Wait there's a recruit. Who?

Matthew: A young boy a little older than you.

Sebastian: Can I meet him. We'd probably be friends.

Matthew: No! But I'll take you fighting tomorrow if you'd like.

Sebastian: Ok.

Cardinal: Kids your mother should be home soon.

Skyla: I love you, dad.

Matthew: I love you too.

We both follow behind him as he puts on his mask and heads for his secret exit.

Sebastian: I love you, dad.

He looks at his watch.

Cardinal: No time. Bye

Then he disappears.

Jon pov

My dad and I fly in the superhero organizations we saved multiple people. We are joined by the Cardinal my dad is my at him for telling me to punch someone earlier. They talked a while then the Cardinal and I walked to the balcony.

Cardinal: Did you enjoy today with your dad.

Jon: Well my dad says I'm not raised to be violent

Cardinal: About that advice, I gave you on the bullies I may have spoken too soon tell me more about them.

Jon: There's this group of big guys called the gay away club.

The Cardinal laughs.

Cardinal: Well sounds like a nice name for a club are they nice.

Jonathan: No they bully Sebastian and I constantly.

Cardinal: But you're straight so Sebastian is putting you in danger. Did you consider leaving him?

Jon: I can't leave him alone he'll be in more danger. Don't you care about your son?

He's completely silent there's a clear answer to my question yet he avoids it.

Cardinal: I care about you.

Jon: So you want your him to get beat up alone to save me but don't you care about him.

Cardinal: The Cardinal cares about everyone.

Jon: Why must you be mean to him

Cardinal: You See Jonathan when I was very young pirates killed my family. I had to join the pirates

Galen: Ok that's enough.

The Cardinal jumps off the building. He sure knows how to make an exit.

Jon: Did pirates kill his family?

Galen: No his family would destroy pirates.

He lied to me either that or my dad.

Galen: I'll tell you what really happened.
