The cultivation instructor, Fan Kuo, cleared his voice, "quiet down or get out. I don't care which," the man barked out. "Now, you have the next month to practice and prepare yourselves, and that's not a lot of time. Some of you will no doubt score higher than others, which is why I'm going to go over the basics today and give your lesser, fellow disciples a fighting chance."
"Mastering the basics can and will help you with more advanced cultivation techniques like body strengthening, controlling your swords, or using artefacts. If applied correctly, it can give you an edge on a superior, more experienced cultivator. It can be the difference between life and death. As such, you will do well to listen."
Fan Kou pushed, letting what he said a moment to sink in.
While the basics can indeed affect more advanced techniques, most of the disciples here had long ago moved to better, more efficient cultivation methods. Ones that are built upon the basics.
Actually, the standard cultivation method was the first thing that the disciples learn when they started cultivating. Only when they got decent control over it, were they allowed trying one of the more advanced ones. For them to go back to practice trash was degrading and even humiliating.
Most disciples kept their mouths shut, but you could tell from their expressions that they wanted Fan Kuo to burn to a crispy death from their death-glares.
Yuen-Bay stood up with his fists raised, took a step forward, and puffed out his chest, "Master is really looking down on us. You're practically calling us incompetent, and saying that our years of cultivation amount to nothing!"
Fan Kuo cocked his head to the right at the rude interruption. He pushed for a second, aura turning dark and menacing, "practically…? And I thought I've made myself clear," he t'sked.
Moving faster than the eye could see, Fan Kuo blinked into existence behind Yuen-Bay before harshly hitting him on top of his head, and sending him crashing down. "Be grateful that this is all I'm going to do to you, idiot disciple. You should learn to respect your betters."
"Those of you that think this is a waste of time, you are more than welcome to leave," the man waved his hand dismissively.
Gritting his teeth, Yuen-Bay picked himself off the floor and took off dramatically, his hair moving from side to side dramatically.
Fan Kuo, like the old fox that he is, smirked at his retreating back. He made sure his face returned to its' serene, aloof look before he turned the rest of the waste littering the room.
Seeing the exchange, half of the shitty little brats stood up and left after Yuen-Bay. A look around showed that Xiu and her goons left as well. The trio probably took the chance to go back to bed.
In all the excitement, no one saw Yaru's face paling farther. Previously, Yaru thought he had some time until he would make his escape, but now -
Because the last forty places aren't allowed to stay in the temple, that means that those forty people are going to get killed. Plus, Yaru had no doubt that he would occupy one of the forty last places.
"Good," the training instructor said while nodding his head "now that they left, we can get started."
The man sat down, and the remaining teens moved closer, to hear him better. Yaru, on the other hand, didn't. Fan Kou was violent on a good day, and he had had it out for him from the very beginning, more so than the rest.
The cultivation instructor started fanning himself, "Kii is a force that you can find within yourselves," the man pointed to the centre of his chest.
"Unlike the magic of old, we don't use the mana in the air to cast spells. We pull it inside our bodies through meditation. We change the mana into wild-Kii, which we can store, and finally, we insert it to our Kii pool."
The teens nodded, mostly familiar with the theory.
You are born with a certain level of Kii inside your body. You might want to think about it like snacks for the soul. Better quality snacks mean that your soul gets better nourishment, making it grow and generate higher-grade Kii.
The more Kii you have, the stronger your body. At some point, you don't need to sleep anymore, nor eat food. Practice long enough and survive a few lightning bolts and you might become immortal.
"Now, can anyone tell me how you pull the mana towards you?"
No one raised his hand to answer. The training instructor laughed awkwardly, "No one? No one at all?"
Silence answered him. Like typical teenagers, their faces showed what they were thinking: 'please don't pick me.'
Sighing the cultivation instructor shook his head, "if no one is going to volunteer, I'm going to choose," he waited a few seconds, but knew it was a losing battle. "Fine, as you wish," he shrugged.
A small boy in the back of the class, sitting next to Yaru, hesitatingly rose his hand.
Fan Kou smiled, " Sha Yuen, did you want to answer?"
The boy nodded. His brown hair covered his face, "the Kii inside the body turns bad with time, and can no longer improve the soul."
"Right. To solve that problem, you have to gather more wild-Kii, but the body has a max capacity. To increase it, you practice your katas. That makes place for the wild-Kii you'll collect."
"Correct," Fan Kuo nods indifferently, "Now, once you have a small amount of mana inside your bodies, you close the path and start changing it to regular Kii. Once all the mana converted into Kii, you'll need to make it your own."
"Through some basic Kii circulation, you can control the Kii to flow. The Kii circulation will replenish your stamina, which is why most prefer to do it right after the katas."
