Chapter Two! Looking back, there are a lot of things that I'd probably do differently now, but there's also lots of new information so I hope you enjoy it.
Japan attacked the German-controlled port of Tsingtao (presently called Qingdao) in China towards the beginning of WWI. Male-male relationships were generally seen as normal for a large stretch of Japanese history, but this changed when the country became more Westernized starting in the late 1800s. (This is the VERY tl;dr version of both of these facts, but just wanted to provide a tiny bit more background in case it is interesting/helpful.)
These pages were originally drawn between September 2011 and May 2012.
Oh yeah,I always remember that Queer (for the lack of a better word)relationships, or basically any kind of sexuality were actually pretty accepted in most places in history, like Greek for example, that is until thier religion became Christianity (I think?),or even if I remember correctly some tribes in africa and the Amazon forest (I might be wrong because my memory is pretty spotty)are also accepting when it comes to this kind of stuff,Cuz I guess they didn't really care that much about it
When Akio and his mother move across the country to live with a mysterious acquaintance, it's a change. When they learn that the man's wife is dead and his son hasn't left the house in years, it's a shock. When the son starts letting Akio in on the rest of the family's secrets, things really start to get weird. It's going to be a long winter.
The first six chapter of this comic were originally posted on Smack Jeeves between July 2010 and December 2019.
