It wasn’t a long drive to the hotel that Starburst was currently staying at, and just as the boy had said it was right by the station. I pulled myself from the car making a quick attempt to wipe away any dust from inside. It was a rare occasion that I actually drove anywhere. Usually, if I did go out, I would walk, if my destination was close enough, or I would have a chauffeur drive me to the location, but neither those options really made sense given the situation.
I drew in the crisp night air. It was a chilly evening as I made my way to the door. The air here was different than it was in the city in which Starburst and I resided. As much as I liked the conveniences of living there it was nice to get out sometimes. Although, that wasn’t my main concern at the given moment. As much as I was gracious that Star had called me, he had seemed extremely distraught on the phone much as he had tried to hide it.
“Onyx!” Starburst cried throwing himself from the door as he finally noticed my approach, “You got here a little bit too quickly, didn’t you?” He questioned slowly slipping his arms around me, “Not that I mind…”
I could barely hear the last part as I smiled lightly. It was rare that Starburst would initiate contact with me so easily, so I wasn’t about to complain, “You called, and I came. It’s as simple as that.” His touch ached a bit against my sunburned skin, but I paid it little mind as I returned his touch, “You want to head back to the car? We can talk there if you want…”
“Okay…” The ginger released me reluctantly his hand falling gracefully into mine as his eyes made a glance for my face, “How did you get so sunburned?!? Geez, you look awful!!!” He shrieked suddenly, “What were you doing out in direct sunlight.” I gave a shrug not looking at the cat’s worried face, “Hah… That looks painful…” My heart throbbed as I looked back at my lover, “I’ll take care of you when we get back, okay?”
“So, you’re coming to my place then…?” I looked away once more thank full that my sun reddened skin hid my blush, “I can take care of it myself…”
“Don’ act all shy all of a sudden…” He grumbled pulling himself into the passenger seat, “It’s not like you can see the back of your neck and you can’t exactly use a mirror. It’s not a problem at all since it’s my fault, right? I thought it was awfully early that you left my place the other day…”
I placed the keys in the ignition turning them just enough to earn a low grumble from the engine, “Alright…”
. . .
“Hnnn.” I shivered as Starburst applied the lotion to the back of my neck before swallowing a minor painkiller, “If you don’t mind what were you doing there? You were very unspecific about it before…”
The catboy paused a moment his hand still on his neck as he let in and out a deep breath, “My mother was sick, and she died.” He said solemnly returning to his previous actions, “I don’t know… It just felt like I had to be there.”
“Sorry, for your loss.” I shivered again as Starburst brought his hands around to my face, “I remember how tough it was when my parents passed away… That was a while ago now though. If you need to talk about it, I’m always here.”
“Hmm, I know you are…” The cat hummed suddenly leaning against me, “And, I’m glad for that, but it’s complicated… I said I’d never forgive her for everything that happened between us when I was younger, and to be honest I still think that I haven’t forgiven her for that, but I’m still really sad that she’s gone and wish that we could’ve been closer before she got so sick…”
“Family’s complicated.” I placed my face to the curve of his neck relaxing a bit as I gently breathed in his familiar scent, “There’s nothing for you to feel guilty about. Do you think I got along with my parents all the time? Trust me it can be hard when your parents are 300 years older than you!” I gave a laugh as we pulled away from each other slightly, “Damn, I’m really glad you’re here…”
The catboy made a grab for my sleeve tugging at it as our eyes met once more, “You have something to tell me too, right?” I swallowed hoping he didn’t notice as he sat down next to me settling against my side, “What happened with Anthony?”
