It had been weeks since Urim set out for One Eye. Plum worried that something bad may have happened and anxiously awaited for his return.
"Why did father have to ask for such a ridiculous price?" Plum said to herself.
She couldn't deny that she was happy Urim was willing to pay such a high price for her. But she would have preferred something that wouldn't get him killed. Most fathers just ask for a few humans or elvish trinkets.
Plum wasn't the only one concerned about Urim, the whole horde was. They couldn't afford to lose Urim. Urim was not only honorable but he was smarter than most orcs. With the ability to read human and elven languages.
"This is all your fault," Dura said.
"Dura," Plum said, surprised to see her.
She hadn't seen Dura since they arrived. Her clothes were disheveled her hair was scruffy looking and her eyes were red and puffy. She had been crying, a lot.
"You stole Urim from me," Dura said, tears filling her eyes.
"I didn't steal Urim," Plum replied.
"You did!" Dura yelled. "You did."
"I told you I was going to marry Urim and you… I saw you, always flirting with him."
"I wasn't flirting," Plum insisted.
"Then why, why wouldn't Urim look at me?" Dura asked. "Why didn't he see me? Since the day you arrive, he only saw you. Urim only saw you." She cried.
"Dura, I-" Plum said.
"I don't want or need your pity," Dura interrupted. "First Glasha, now you. It would seem as if I have been left behind." She laughed to herself.
Dura was beside herself with grief she had lost Urim. She was so confident in herself, she was so sure that Urim wanted her. But when Urim saw Plum everyone else became invisible.
Just seeing Plum made her sick to her stomach. She needed to get away from her. She ran as far and as fast as she could until she couldn't hold it anymore. Her mouth watered and she threw up, the thought of Urim being with Plum sickened her. Urim was supposed to be hers, she felt numb and self-pity for herself.
It was nearly nightfall when Dura wondered home for the night. She hissed when she saw Plum still waiting for Urim to return, she had a worried look on her face but all Dura could think was if Urim dies she would not hesitate to kill Plum.
Out the corner of her eye she saw Gor'lok, she straightened her clothes and fixed her hair, and wiped her tears then put a smile on her face.
"Gor'lok!" She called.
"Dura... are you feeling well? You, don't look good." Gor'lok said looking her over.
"I'm fine" she insisted, adjusting her clothes once more, "So, I hear you're getting married." She quickly changed the subject.
"Yeah," he answered.
"Glasha," Dura replied
"Yeah Glasha," Gor'lok said.
"Good, I'm happy for you," Dura said.
"Don't antagonize me Dura, and don't speak ill of Glasha. She's a good woman and she'll make a good mate." Gor'lok said.
"Pff," Dura grunted, " You said the same thing to me last hunt and the hunt before that, and the hunt before that."
"Yeah, well I'm done waiting for you Dura. You only have eyes for Urim." Gor'lok said. "But it would seem that Urim only has eyes for a certain… elf."
"She's just a trophy, it's only fitting that the strongest orc chieftain claims a mate that killed a steedsaaker," Dura said.
"Pff," Gor'lok grunted. "Urim was smitten with that elf the moment she entered Dimmore. He was going to take her as his mate whether she killed that beast or not."
It hurt Dura to hear those words she fought back tears the thought that Urim could care about some other women that much was too much for her to bear.
As much as it hurt Dura, it gave Gor'lok satisfaction to see the pain in her eyes. He had tried courting Dura for three years and she rebuffed him every time.
"It doesn't feel nice does it," Gor'lok taunted. "Knowing the person you love most, loves someone else."
Dura raised her hand to slap Gor'lok but he stopped her. He squeezed her wrist tightly, thinking about all the times she rejected him. But he loosened his grip when she started crying. He didn't mean to hurt her.
Gor'lok was happy she was hurting he wanted her to feel how he felt all those times. But now that she was here in front of him crying, he felt sorry for her.
He released her wrist then slowly slid his index finger down the back of her hand then to the palm. He stopped just shy of taking her hand. He waited to see if she would take his head and she did. Their eyes locked, she was hurt, heartbroken and vulnerable. It was a change from her usually confident conceited self. It made him want her and she knew it.
She leaned forward and waited to see if he'd meet her halfway, he did. Gor'lok knew he shouldn't be kissing Dura but it was a sensation he wanted to know.
Gor'lok sighed deeply as he adjusted his belt, what was he thinking. It would be this one time, he would never tell Glasha and it would ever happen again.
"Dura I…" Gor'lok started.
Dura already knowing what he was about to say she jumped to her feet and interrupted him. "Meet me here tomorrow night." She said through soft gentle kisses."
He should have said no and walked away from her and never looked back. But he didn't, he kissed her and agreed to meet her again. The back end of Dimmore among the trees and bushes, was where they begin have there secret rendezvous.
