Victor was woken up as usual by the arrival of his aide, a Vampire subordinate by the name of Lycus Koios Prometheus. Unlike usual his arm was pinned down by a soft weight of his Vampire Bride’s head. He vaguely remembered her coming over earlier, but he was embarrassed when he remembered that he had just fallen back asleep like that and had even insisted that she sleep beside him inadvertently. He couldn’t let his embarrassment show though.
Lycus made no acknowledgement of the unusual scene of the Prince being curled up with a woman and just continued his morning duties of setting out proper clothing, making sure everything in the room was orderly, and making sure the prince awoke in a timely manner, all of this with his usual emotionless demeanor. If anything it made Victor feel even more conscious of the tiny being curled up beside him. He carefully did his best to slide his arm out from underneath his Bride’s head without waking her or seeming flustered by her presence. He unfortunately failed on both accounts.
Mignon slowly opened her pale purple eyes and looked straight into Victor’s crimson eyes. Victor just froze and was unsure what to do. Lycus helped Victor come back to himself by clearing his throat.
"Sir, it is time to get ready for the day. The Queen has requested that after breakfast you bring the young lady to the library so she can start her lessons right away. After that the King requests your presence in the throne room, where you will help him start the investigation into the village situation. That will last until approximately lunch time in the dining hall with the rest of the royal family. After lunch I have freed up time for the both of you to get to know each other and bond until dinner with just the King and Queen. Then there will be shared lessons about the Queen’s hometown. The rest of the night is unplanned and will be free to do what you wish with.” Lycus finished reciting the schedule for the day from memory, and continued to the next order of morning business. “As for breakfast, would you like to have it at the dining hall or delivered here to your living quarters?”
Victor had gotten out of bed and gone over to see which clothes had been laid out for him as Lycus was talking. He briefly glanced at his yawning Bride in his bed as he immediately responded. “We will both take it here today, and please make sure it is a light breakfast and not too rich today.”
Lycus bowed respectfully. “Of course. Anything else I can help with at the moment?”
“Can you ask some of the maids to start redecorating our living quarters according to the new Bride color? Make sure they confer with Mignon on everything as well since she is the new Vampire Bride. I’m sure Mother can use it to test her on her taste in style, or something.” Victor knew his mother well, and knew style was important to her, even if it wasn’t always important to actually being Queen.
“I’ll go inform them right away sir. I will also return with your breakfasts shortly.” Lycus took one final bow before leaving the two semi-flustered betrothed to their own private worries.
Mignon was mainly worried about if she would actually ever get used to this new treatment. She had lived a hundred and fifty five human years as lower than even the animals the village raised. Yet suddenly she was going to be the Queen…
The village had only sacrificed her to finally get rid of her, in hopes that she would be sent to the harlem at best. Since very few sacrifices were seen after they went in, most of the gossip over the years lead the current humans in the town to firmly believe sacrifices were preyed upon or tortured. Mignon had heard a little bit of the truth from her mother when she was still very young, but over the years she had lost hope in ever being in a place as grand as her mother’s stories. Mignon started to believe that they were something that her mother had told her to keep her going through life and never give up. She should have kept believing though. It turned out that her mother was probably hinting at Mignon escaping her abused life without alerting the people keeping them there. She had probably knew that her sister would recognize Mignon and take her in no matter how she had come to the castle. Mignon had given up early though since the life in the town was all she had actually known.
As Mignon pondered over how her lessons with the Queen would go, Victor was secretly freaking out for a different reason. How was he supposed to change with a young lady literally trapped on his bed with no way to leave by herself? Yes, he had a folding screen, but would it really be okay to change with her still in his bedroom? Why was he even worrying over it? He should just go behind the screen and do it. No problem, he does it all the time with Lycus in the room. Mignon probably won’t even notice he’s changing since she seemed to still be out of it.
Come on Victor do your thing, before Lycus returns with your breakfast and makes you even more uncomfortable. You’re a strong prince whose weakness can NOT be a woman…
Victor tried to confidently walk behind the screen with his clothes and start changing. His pride wouldn’t let him actually show any hesitation at this point.
Mignon did notice though when she saw the pair of trousers he had worn to bed be flipped over the top of the folding screen. It was then that her mind had decided to sharpen and fully wake up. She was going to be getting married soon… and at this exact moment her betrothed was naked on the other side of a simple folding screen…
Mignon flushed deep red and covered her face with her hands. Did he have no shame? She would see it sooner or later, but they just met less than a day ago. No matter which time measurement was used it was only one day since she was being “tricked” into becoming a sacrifice to the Vampires, and that is WAY too soon to have a potential glance at bare skin.
Lycus Koios returned with two trays of breakfast, only to see a deeply blushing Vampire Bride peeking through her fingers towards the folding screen where he could only assume the Prince was changing behind. Lycus made a note that his boss would need to also take lessons as well about the roles and etiquette of engagement and marriage. Lycus placed the two trays on the coffee table before immediately leaving to report to the King and Queen what he had seen.
