It has been six years since Emmy lost her husband in the summoning ritual of the demon monarch. She had left the empire to start her life anew.
She had lost the wisdom of rituals given to her by the demon monarch and was left with her power to earn a living. Each city and town had woods, and those woods had monsters lurching within. Lower ranked monsters' cores fetched enough silvers to live her life with peace. But humans knew greed and greed knew on end, they will want what they do not have.
Emmy's power was enough to slay a rank three monster, which guaranteed a few gold coins. She lived in a small town in a country near the empire. She would go to the city to sell her spoils of war in the city at a distance of two by a carriage. Three silver was enough to get herself a little space inside the carriage and was on her way, but Bilvion begged her to take him with her. Under the persistent gaze of her cute little child, she could not help but give up.
The little man jumped in joy and helped Emmy pack the cores lying in the bedroom.
Their home was not much, a bedroom and a hall. Even in the underdeveloped town, no one lived in such a small house. But everyone knew well that Emmy could afford a house bigger than most of them but deemed it unnecessary. The noble kept the people's money safe if they were willing to trust them. Small town nobles did not lust after money and were quite trustworthy.
She had left her money with the noble, waiting for it to accumulate enough for her to buy better armour and weapons, and to buy a house in the city.
Emmy wanted to send her child to the prestigious academy of mages, Neflay. This academy of the empire had a yearly tuition fee of hundred gold. A common family could live for three months in just one gold. A hundred silver coins meant one gold and a hundred copper coins a silver.
She wanted her child, who had yet to awaken his powers, to learn morality. What the demon monarch had done to her husband and her comrades left an impression on her. He will know how to control magic but he needs to have friends and a lover to learn morality and friendship. Though some might say that this is a waste of precious money and time to make him study in the empire's most expensive academy but as a mother, there were somethings that she would pay no heed to.
After all, a parent's ambition is to see their children live the life of luxury. Even if she could not provide him with that, she will provide him with a better future. No one could take this right to want the best for her child away from her.
They took the carriage and took the corner most part. Under the constant shuddering of the carriage, bilvion felt at ease and fell asleep. They arrived at the city and traded the cores for gold at the guild.
While in the city, Emmy thought of staying for a few days and show Bilvion around. The prices of things differ a lot when compared to the town's. Food cost less and weapons and armour costs more, but the quality is different from her town's blacksmith's.
The atmosphere in cities was different, everything seemed charming. The walls of the shops were lightly painted and the church was huge. It had a little palace were the nobles resided. Food stalls were crowded and lover walked around, hand in hand. Back alley were places where the thief and bandits took people to loot them. They lived in the outskirts of the city. Emmy knew all this as she used to work as one.
She was afraid of the church. The church of light, a holy church which worshipped the goddess of light and prosperity. For someone who followed the goddess of misery, death and darkness, Emmy could not help but show disgust towards the church.
It was the last day and Emmy had taken Bilvion with her to the guild to look for information regarding the current gossip. She sat at the corner of the bar like guild and sipped on some alcohol, trying not to draw attention to herself or the little man beside her, who hurriedly drank his juices. The gossip around wee the usual; nobles daughter, how she was getting old but did not find a lover. The knight lord's affairs with two girls. The drought in the neighbouring country. What caught her interest was the top leaders taking the take of subjugating the monsters.
It was the time of breeding, the weather was sunny, and there was enough food for monsters to go on without worrying to hunt. This lead to them breeding and it became a hassle to kill them after they breed. The monsters straight-up multiply after breeding.
For Emmy, this meant money. The top rankers did not care about the cores in cores dropped by rank one to five. They take the cores for higher ranking monsters. Emmy could collect their spoil of war and sell it in the guild.
The sun painted the sky in a dark red, the trees shuddered as the wind howled. A storm was coming. Emmy sat in the carriage, caressing Bilvion's white-blonde hair, thinking of how much his eyes resembled her husband. His light purple eyes are tightly shut, his mouth making snoring sounds. Haha, he made such a ruckus when I told him we were leaving but look at him now. Emmy chuckled, thinking to herself.
She knew that Bilvion did not have many friends. Her town was dying, agriculture and mining were not going well. They had almost exhausted all the resources they had and people were migrating to other towns and cities for work. Not many young people remained in the town.
The carriage abruptly stopped as two people climbed up it. Wooshing sounds pierced the wind, two arrows knocked out the armoured men who sat near her. There are not many people in the carriage, only six. Two of them were small merchants, and two were their guards. Emmy and Bilvion were the last two.
Bandits. Emmy's face was a mess of panic. If she remembered the rituals and arts that she could use then these bandits were nothing to her but she lost all her wisdom about this when she performed the summoning ritual.
They were all captured, tied and laid on the ground. The destroyed the cart and looted all the money they all had on them. The merchants struggled at first and ended up dead just as their guards. Emmy was smarter than that and quietly glared at the people looking through the bodies of the merchants.
Their equipment was shabby and there were five of them. They lustfully looked up and down Emmy's body. Though she was not very beautiful, she was still quite young.
She was starting to panic when another three men came along. These men were robust and had expensive armour with a red symbol of the guild: a red snake. One of the men was a little fat and branded a robe of mages.
"Hey, you were allowed to take the goods! Isn't that enough!? Leave the girl to us. We'll take extra special care of her. It's been quite a while since I vented out." A Lance wielding man said.
The bandits shivered when they heard this and quietly handed him all the coins they had collected. The small group of bandits vanished after a while.
The trio, before Emmy, were known for their crimes and their power. Due to being one of the heavyweights of the guild, they got away with a little fine for major crimes.

They closed on Emmy and ripped her clothes to tatters. They took off the ropes tying her hands and legs but left the gag. They were in the woods, so there wasn't much chance of anyone noticing what was going on here.
They pulled their pants off. After a while of deciding who was going to ride first, the robust man took Emmy, his boat entering her canal. Muffled voices were mixed the man's gasping. Emmy cried looking at her son's dumbfounded look. She wanted to be free but knew that there was nothing that she could do now that she was in their grasp. The other two joined a bit later. The fat robed man put his meat rod to her mouth ended up clutching his lower member screaming in pain.
She wanted to kill them all. Not just for violating her but for doing it in front of her child. The gag was removed but the idea of biting her tongue did not come to her mind. She wanted to send her child to Neflay, see him grow up. If there was any chance that they would leave her alive, she was willing to take it for her ambition. She needed to live for her child, her only family.
The man below her stood up and had the same experience as the fatty. Limping around, he cursed at her and her ancestors.
He dressed up and took up his lance.
"Hey! We need to get back to work!" He said.
"Mm, yeah! Wait a little while." The other man replied
"Get the fu*k here!"
After a while of arguing, they all got dressed and started to decide what to do with Emmy and her child.
"I say, we kill her and leave the brat to the monsters' mercy!" The fatty said.
"I will kill her! That bi*ch bit me!" The man said, slowly pushing his lance into her canal.
Emmy withered and screamed in agony before dying.
