Nid then felt something heavy rest upon his shoulder, waking him from his stupor. Emerwyn was now beside him smiling, his arm wrapped around Nid’s neck.
“Hey kiddo! It's your big day today! I brought you a little something."
Emerwyn grabbed something from his back. Then held out an ornately designed wooden bow, a proud look plastered on his face. “Looks nice, right?” he said, while eyeing his work. Nid stood silent and watched in awe at the wonderful bow in front of him. It was so beautiful that he could stare at it for hours. “This is a bow made from the branches of Andrasyl’s tree. With a little tweak from this master right here, and we got a masterpiece. Haha.”
“I am not a kid! I have already been an adult in my previous life, but I’m not gonna lie, this bow looks good.”
“Even with all your lives you’re still a kid compared to me! Hahaha!”
“Well, you got me there old timer. Careful though, your bones might pop. hahaha.”
“There, there baby, don’t worry, now that you’re an elf too, you will be able to experience the immortal life. It gets pretty boring after a while, take it from me.” said Emerwyn. His comment being true to some extent, as elves do not age after reaching a certain stage of maturity.
“Don’t go crying on me now! Old people crying doesn’t look good! Hahaha.” Nid patted Emerwyn on his back, as their banter goes back and forth. “By the way where is Andrasyl?” Nid asked the wood elf. “The lady said she was going to have a quick look around.”
“Why? Has something happened in the forest?”
“No, I don’t think it’s important. She’ll be here soon. The lady must be performing her daily duties, she is the keeper of this forest after all.”
“Hmm. I guess you’re right, but the forest has been balanced for a while now. On some days I just see her loitering around the tree top. Why would today be any . . .” as if on cue, grass and flowers bloomed from the ground beside them. Little by little forming a figure. “The present day is thy special day!” Nid tilted his head, and saw a beautiful lady, she was slim and had a long flowing hair. She had a wooden complexion, her body was intertwined with vines and small flowering branches. Her hair had a leafy feel, being green as it flowed from a crown like branch that sat on her head. “Andrasyl!” Nid said almost in sync with, Emerwyn’s greeting. “Lady Andrasyl.” The ancient being smiled at both Emerwyn and Nid. She reached out to Nid and gave him a pat on the head. Afterwards she leaned towards the dark elf and kissed his forehead softly “You are finally at the age where thee can explore the world. It is what thee have always wanted ever since thee could walk.”
“Yup Yup! It is finally time to see what this freakin’ world has to offer! Haha!” his eyes gleamed with excitement, drawn in his face as a childlike grin. Nid’s vision with the usual picture, his family in Mahiterra. Andrasyl, his mother figure and Emerwyn was sort of his big brother. “From my earliest days in this world, they have been there for me. I’m going to be able to explore this world, because of them.” He said to himself, with a solemn smile lining his lips. “Hey let’s get moving! I want to see what job class I’ll get.” Nid ran towards Andrasyl’s tree, hidden in his words was a thankful smile. All three of them proceeded to the top of Andrasyl's tree bathed under Nid’s cheerful humming. They were going to the highest floor of the tree, where the magical concentration is at its highest.
As they entered, the familiar scene came into view, it was Andrasyl and Nid’s house. The smell of free flowers and fruit wafted in the air. Vines and wood branches engulfed the interior, interweaved to form stairs and furniture. Illumination was provided by fist sized insects, who looked like balls of light flying around or clinging unto the tree.
"With my basic class - archer, what do you think will my advanced class be?" He tossed the question to both of them, while walking nonchalantly up the stairs.
Emerwyn glanced at Nid, then gave his answer "Well to be honest with your training in magic and archery you can go both ways, your basic class just raises the probability of you ascending to the archery advanced classes. Knowing you though, you might end up not getting promoted at all! Hahaha."
"Like your class is so great? Vagabond! psh! sounds like you have nothing to do, so you just walk around." Nid teased back.
"Is that the best you got? Hahahaha. Vagabond is a rare class especially for an elf you know. I got it cause I'm the best." Winking at Nid with a nudge on his arm.
Andrasyl smiled while looking at both of them " In this one's existence, this has been the noisiest the forest has ever been. Besides you two are no match for a six-star like me anyway."
"What is this star talk?" Nid asked
Both Emerwyn and Andrasyl's eyebrow twitched and they let out a sigh. "Come on Nid, we already discussed this, that's why you trained the way you did. . ." Emerwyn said, looking dejected. "Remember, we told you that when advancing once class up you must choose your weapon, range, and combat expertise as well as your major and minor elemental affinity on a five pointed star?" he added trying to jostle some of Nids memories.
"Hmm. Hmmm. Ah! Oh right, right for example on weapon I can choose whatever weapon I plan to use even fist. If I remember correctly, I can choose whether I attack primarily using melee or ranged. What’s on combat expertise again?" Nid recalled, his eyebrows furrowed.
"Young one, thy ought to remember these things, thee needs this knowledge literally today. When choosing combat expertise, one can go for magic or skill. Lastly one must choose his elemental affinities both major and minor. " Andrasyl lamented.
They've halted their walk to the top, with an atmosphere of disappointment in the air. Emerwyn had a hand on his forehead as if it is hurting, shaking his head. Andrasyl had her head down, the smile on her face now gone, replaced by distress.
Nid saw both their reactions then " Hahahahaha!! You guys! You didn't really think that I would forget something so important? Come on! This is my first step to the world outside this forest. I was just messing with you!" Nid was wiping tears from his eyes, clutching his stomach from all the laughing he did.
"You guys are such worry warts, do I look that stupid? I maybe lazy, but I'm not stupid you know." He added.
"I don't know Nid, if it is you, I feel like you might actually forget something this important." still looking at Nid with eyes full of worry.
"That is true, This one does not fully believe in thy capabilities. thee seem uncoordinated sometimes, like having no control over thyself." Andrasyl insinuated, having the same look of concern on her eyes as Emerwyn.
"Oh come on! I'm not like that! Well, yeah sometimes I act stupid and do stupid things, but that is besides the point! I'm at least able to keep what's important in mind." Nid frantically explained, almost shouting trying to convince the two.
The three locked eyes, then out of the blue, the three erupted with laughter. They've known each other for some time now, and being in this ragtag group had been a joy filled ride.
"I'm gonna miss this." Nid blurted out.
"It's alright, you'll be back for visits right?" Emerwyn soothed, while tapping Nid's shoulders for comfort.
"Yeah, of course. I gotta look after you after all. Who knows what you'll do if i'm gone too long. Hahaha."
"Should not that be our line?" Andrasyl jokingly pointed out.
"Nah, that is my line. You two will be miserable without me. Hahaha." Nid said.
"Right? Like not having to look after a big baby is the loneliest thing." Emerwyn teased "Ahh. Someone help, I got trapped by a carnivorous plant." He continued with a mocking voice.
"Now that's not fair, I was five. I could barely dress myself. Haha."
Their cheerful exchange filled the atmosphere. It would last until they had reached the top of the tree. This area was overflowing with mana, so much so that trails of light composed of mana manifested themselves. At the center of the tree-top is a small circular pool filled with water like looking substance.
"What do I do now?" Nid asked
"Go and place yourself in the middle of the shallow pool. Close your eyes and feel the nature, be one with this world." Andrasyl instructed.
