Rumfus and Brandy walked the winding paths that led up the mountain.
From what he could see, there were at least two Dragons at the top of the largest peak and an additional two or three Dragons on lower peaks or circling around.
“I don’t think any of them have noticed us yet, Brandy, which is surprising given your bright color.”
Following a little bit behind, Brandy looks up at Rumfus.
“Brrr.”
Rumfus laughs.
“You’ve got that right, Brandy, you haven’t got much to defend yourself with, have you?”
Rumfus notices the path led to one of the destroyed villages.
As he and Brandy walked through the town, attempting to possibly find any survivors, one of the Dragons let out a mighty roar.
Brandy readjusts his feet and shakes his head.
“Brrr!”
Rumfus, having braced himself, looks to the skies to see if any of the Dragons had noticed them.
“Easy, Brandy, I think we might be alright…”
It still seemed as though none of the Dragons had noticed them yet.
There were many burnt corpses and skeletons of the Cyclops that once lived in the village, the attack from the Dragons must have been quite a surprise as most of the dead weren’t armored or even armed.
“Brrr.”
Rumfus looks to Brandy.
“Indeed, the chances of there being any survivors here are slim, it has been quite some time since the initial attack.”
Rumfus continued inspecting the burnt and destroyed huts in the village.
There was a hut that had not been set on fire, but one half of the building had been torn down.
Rumfus walked up to the building and kneeled down.
“Look here, Brandy!”
Brandy walks up beside Rumfus.
“See the claw marks here?”
Rumfus pointed to the ground, then continued to point to the surrounding huts.
“A Dragon must have landed on this hut and breathed fire on the other huts nearby.”
Rumfus looked back towards the house he was kneeling in front of and noticed there was a gap in the rubble.
“What’s this?”
Rumfus got up and walked over the collapsed hut to inspect.
He cleared some of the wreckage and found that the way the hut had collapsed, it had trapped a young Cyclops inside.
"Poor child must have starved to death in here…"
Brandy lowered his head.
"Brrr…"
Rumfus looked around and saw that there were two pieces of parchment with writing on them, one more hastily written than the other.
Rumfus picked up the two pieces of parchment and begins reading the quickly written one first.
"Hmm… the child must have written this note after they got trapped in the collapsed building, which seems to have been a blessing as well as a curse.
He survived the attack but had to watch as the Dragons destroyed everything and everyone.
He was oddly specific about some of the deaths in this note.
Two Dragons seemed to play with a single victim like they were a chew toy, a leg in one's mouth and an arm in another's.
They dragged his suffering out longer than it needed to be.
And apparently, he only saw two of the Dragons spew fire from their mouths, the others only used their claws and such, interesting.
This second note, seems as if this one was written several days after the initial attack.
Says that their leg got pinned down or crushed by part of the building, their only hope of survival was if someone would have come to rescue him.
No one ended up coming, clearly."
Rumfus kneels down near to the child's remains.
"I'm sorry I didn't come sooner, but I will avenge your death and all of the others that lost their lives as well, your people will live in the mountains once more!"
Brandy tilts his head to the side.
"Brrr?"
Rumfus quickly turns to look at Brandy.
"Oh, and how do you know that?
You don't know if their spirits can hear me or not."
Rumfus moves his hand in a shoo-ing motion as he turns back towards the rubble.
"Bah, what do you know?"
The sound of Brandy repositions his feet is heard as Rumfus gets up from kneeling and turns back towards Brandy.
But Brandy isn't there.
"Brrr!"
Rumfus quickly looks to the skies to see Brandy being carried away by one of the Dragons.
"Brandy, no!"
Rumfus ran several strides in the direction the Dragon had been flying.
This Dragon happened to be one of two Dragons that were perched at the top of the mountain.
Rumfus looked to the ground and saw that the sword, Ashrune, had fallen free from the scabbard on Brandy's harness.
He crouched down, grabs the sword and raises it to the sky.
"You'll pay for this, you hear me?
I'll kill all ya sons-a-bitches for taking Brandy!"
