The booking website was fancy and confusing, but Joey was pretty sure he discovered there were other master penthouse suites-just like the one he was in- that did have two beds. Some even had multiple bedrooms!
He tried to book one of those through the app, to see if any of the rooms were available.
But the website was so damn confusing and it kept asking him so many questions and letting him know about all these add-ons, some complimentary and some not, that his shopping cart ended up with 30 items and Joey had no idea what was what.
Joey clicked his phone off in frustration.
He got up, tired but still filled with curiosity.
The hotel was crazy expensive, and their room- suite, apartment, house? He wasn’t sure what to call it- was even more expensive.
The residents of Hawaii would probably go crazy if they found out how their tax dollars were being put to use.
Joey still couldn’t believe their director had approved everything, paid for all of this, flight, retreat session, and this room, bells and whistles and all.
He walked around.
The windows were his favorite part. They were long and revealed the city, showing it off like the grand masterpiece it was.
They were high above most other buildings, so the view they got was breathtaking.
Joey considered pulling out Mikael's camera from his backpack, beat Mikeal to the first photo of the room, of the view.
The bellhop had walked them directly into the bedroom, but there was also a whole separate state-of-the-art kitchen and a gloriously decorated living room.
There was already a sofa and TV inside the bedroom, so Joey didn’t understand what the need for the living room was.
There was a bathroom that connected the living room and bedroom. In it was a hot tub for four, a bathtub and a standing shower.
Joey walked over to the shower, seeing all the knobs and switches on the wall, he was intrigued.
More than once Mikael had compared him to a cat.
“You’re too curious Jojo, it’ll be the death of you.” Mikael had said one night in his kitchen.
“Pretty sure you’ll be the death of me.” Joey had mumbled back through the bag of frozen peas on the busted lip he would tell people he got from breaking up a bar fight, but actually got from pulling on a handle that was labeled Do Not Pull.
But, what harm could come to him in a bathroom?
He pushed a few of the buttons and water instantly came spewing out at high intensity from all sides.
He let out a yelp as he scrambled away too late, his shirt damp.
His shoulders slumped and he was happy Mikael hadn't been there to document the occasion.
Without turning off the water he walked away to go change.
Then he thought better of it, realizing he would probably get wet again while trying to figure out how to turn off the water.
He turned and walked back, wearily eyeing the shower, looking for any instructions on the wall.
There were none.
Figures, the type of people who normally stay here must have these kinds of showers back home too... Joey thought as he placed a cautious hand over the knobs and switches.
He pressed and turned and flicked everything on the wall.
The water did all sorts of tricks-spewing out in patterns, changing colors, getting hot, getting stronger- before finally turning off.
Joey stared at the shower with contempt.
He was dripping wet.
He turned to change.
