“I told you,” Joey said, mouth full of steak. “Didn’t I tell you? And what did you say? Huh? What did you say to me?”
“That’s not the point Joey,” Mikael said, pinching his nose. “I was just sharing to share, not for you to lecture me.”
“No, you were sharing to complain. I told you to bring an eye mask and some earplugs- I even offered to buy you one of the nice silk ones like mine! And what did you do?”
“I-”
“A little light and noise never heart anyone Jojo.” Joey’s voice came out gruff as he tried his best to impersonate Mikael. “I’ve slept through worse, I’m a Marine Joey. I don’t need that.”
Mikael rolled his eyes and stuffed his mouth with more mashed potatoes.
“Serves you right.” Joey said, voice back to normal. “Karma works quick in the city babe.”
“Hey, um, if I wanna take a nap during the day… is there any way I can get some curtains sent up to our room?” Mikael ignored Joey’s grin as he asked the bellhop.
It was a different bellhop, not Kyle this time. Mikael vaguely wondered if perhaps Kyle had requested someone change rooms with him.
This new bellhop had introduced themselves as Jamie-and had also made sure to knock extra loud.
Jamie was clearing out their plates, putting them back on a cart, and getting ready to leave the room when Mikael asked his question.
“Curtains?”
“Yeah… you know… blinds. To cover the windows…” Mikael held up his hands toward the windows to illustrate his point. He looked at Joey, who was watching with amusement from the couch. “They have those in New York right? Curtains.”
“Um. Yes. But…” Jamie hesitated, very aware that they were talking to a Penthouse guest, whose partner was rumored to sleep with a weapon- if Kyle was to be trusted, and everyone knew Kyle loved exaggerating stories about the guests. “Um. I can get you some curtains. But... if you just want to cover the windows, there’s a button for that.”
Mikael blinked at Jamie. “What?”
“Yeah.” Jamie flashed a nervous smile.
“This hotel has a lot of buttons,” Joey said, eyes narrow. “The bathroom is full of them.” He said it like an old man talking about the rowdy neighborhood kids, the bane of his existence.
“Um…” Mikael nodded. “Is there any way you can send someone to… to walk us through our suite? Explain all the buttons and stuff.”
Jamie blinked.
Penthouse guests didn’t normally need their rooms to be explained to them. They normally had all this stuff- and more- at home.
“Yes. Right away.” Jamie bowed, something that sometimes just happened without any forethought, and left the room, pulling out the cart with their empty plates.
