Stories and Lore of the Brew Wizard

Dragons on Dan'Burk C. 5

Dragons on Dan'Burk C. 5

Feb 11, 2020

Rumfus waited and watched as the Dragon flew through the air to see where it might land.

The Dragon ended up landing on one of the lower peaks where there was another Dragon, from where Rumfus was standing he couldn’t see what the Dragons were doing, but shortly thereafter, the Dragon that had picked Brandy up jumped into the air and flew back to its original perch without Brandy.

His traveling companions were Rumfus’ main concern, so he started sprinting towards the lower peak.

There was a steep decline from where the destroyed village that Rumfus had been investigating straight to the mountain peak that Brandy was left at.

Also, there was a safer, winding path that led around to the other side of the mountain, but Rumfus didn’t have enough time to go the safer way.

Rumfus reached the edge of the village where the ground dropped off to a cliff, he stopped and quickly looked around and saw that the crumbled building beside him had a wooden door on top of the wreckage.

He scours the rubble and picks up some rope that had once held the building together and uses it to tie Ashrune to his hip.

Then, he grabs the door and throws it off the cliff to the mountainside below.

Rumfus runs towards the cliff, grabbing his staff, Stormbringer, on the way and jumps.

Below the village on the steep mountainside, the wooden door lands, followed by Rumfus on top.

Rumfus slides down the side of the mountain on the wooden door on top of dirt and rock, he tries his best to maneuver as he slides, but it is a difficult task.

The door creaks and cracks as splinters are spewing in a trail behind Rumfus.

The nails holding the door together start coming loose.

Rumfus looks down at the door, then back in front of him to see there is a drop-off and large gap between the mountainside he was going down and the one he sought to ascend.

Rumfus crouches down, readying himself to attempt to jump the gap between mountains.

Just before the edge of the cliff, Rumfus pushes off and soars through the air.

The other mountainside wasn’t nearly as steep as the one Rumfus had been sliding down, but it too came to a cliff, between the two mountains was a very large drop.

Way down below the cliffs, the wooden door lands and smashes against jagged rocks.

Rumfus lands on the other mountainside and tumbles across the dirt and rocks.

In almost a fluid motion, Rumfus rolls and stands on his feet, looks back to the cliff where he had jumped, then sprints over to where he had landed.

He picks up Stormbringer and looks to the mountain’s peak where Brandy had been left.

Rumfus begins a full sprint up the mountainside to learn of his companion’s fate, hoping that he wasn’t too late.

He continued to sprint up the mountain until it got too steep to run.

Then he climbed as quickly as he could, which wasn’t extremely fast since he had to carry his staff in one of his hands.

Rumfus eventually reached the summit of the mountain where Brandy was supposed to be.

He slid down to a large plateau area, there was dried blood, bones, corpses, fresh and old.

Along with them were burnt and/or rusty weaponry and armor scattered around.

Rumfus looked around for any sign of his traveling companion.

“Brandy!

Brandy, where are you?”

He heard no reply.

Suddenly, a large claw reached up from the other side of the plateau and slammed on the ground.

Rumfus slowly turned his head towards the noise and saw a mighty and immensely sized Dragon climb up onto the plateau.

“You, beast, where’s Brandy?

Answer me, now!”

The Dragon stomped its way towards Rumfus.

Rumfus began hearing a powerful voice although the Dragon’s mouth was not moving and he saw no one else around able to speak.

“What, the unintelligent creature with the pointy bits?

I hope you weren’t too attached as it is currently being digested.”

Rumfus widens his stance and pulls Ashrune from his side.

“Ah, I would venture to guess that this creature you speak of meant quite a bit to you.”

Rumfus gives a stern look to the Dragon.

“You could say that…”

The Dragon bares its teeth as it brings its head in close to Rumfus.

“Well, are you going to try something, tiny one?

I would advise you just turn around and go back down the mountain before I decide I haven’t eaten enough today.”

The Dragon begins to turn around and walks away.

Rumfus stands still for a moment and then runs towards the Dragon with sword and staff in hand.

He leaps into the air, spins and swings the sword down on the Dragon’s tail, but when the sword hits, it breaks apart.

Shards scattered about and one flew towards Rumfus and cut his shoulder on its way by.

Rumfus lifts what was left of Ashrune in confusion.

By this time the Dragon had its head turned back to Rumfus and had his tail cocked and ready to swing.

“What kind of cheap-”

The Dragon’s tail swung and knocked Rumfus through the air across the plateau.

Rumfus landed on his back and slid across the ground.

When he stopped sliding, he sat up and looked towards the Dragon realizing he had let go of Stormbringer and Ashrune when he was hit.

The Dragon began charging towards Rumfus, he quickly looked on both sides of him and saw a rusty sword in arms reach.

Rumfus grabbed the sword, got up and lept out of the Dragon’s path as it chomped its teeth, attempting to catch him in its mouth.

Rumfus rolled and got up into a kneeling position.

The Dragon flapped its wings and lunged through the air attempting to catch Rumfus with its claws.

Rumfus rolled forward underneath the Dragon and swung the rusty sword upwards as it passed by, only nicking the belly.

The Dragon spun around and started slamming its tail on the ground before lifting its head and letting out a powerful roar.

Rumfus took the time to make some distance between himself and the Dragon and to conjure five ice shards, when the Dragon looked back to him, Rumfus threw the ice shards at the Dragon, then spun around and threw five more.

The Dragon got up on its back legs and flapped its wings, pushing the ice shards downward, causing them to collide with the ground.

Rumfus smiles.

“Hmm, no fire, eh?”

The Dragon growls as it began to charge towards Rumfus again.

Rumfus does a spin before throwing the sword through the air.

The Dragon attempts to move to the side, but the sword penetrates through the Dragon’s scales and gets lodged into its left leg.

The Dragon loses its footing as it falls to its side and slides along the plateau as it lets out a pained roar.

Rumfus grabs the sword tightly as the Dragon slides by, the sword carves through most of the Dragon’s leg as it comes free.

The Dragon roars even louder as its leg is almost completely severed.

Rumfus turns towards the Dragon as it begins to stop sliding.

The Dragon wrapped its wings around itself as it rolled over onto its feet, the wound was bleeding heavily.

It started limping back away as Rumfus slowly approached, the rusty sword dripping a blood trail behind him.

The Dragon flapped its wings attempting to knock Rumfus back, but he seemed unaffected by the strong wind.

“Why did you climb these mountains, tiny one?

What are you hoping to achieve?”

Rumfus stops walking.

“You and your kind killed many innocents and drove many more from their homes when they had done nothing to you, that kind of cruelty cannot go unpunished.

This wasn’t personal… not until you harmed my Brandy… now I’m not going to stop until every last one of you is dead."

The Dragon limps backward a little more.

“You have no idea of what you’re getting yourself into, you just opened up hunting season, and everyone in this wretched land will suffer because of you!”

The Dragon turns and begins to lift its wings to lift itself off into the air.

Rumfus runs and jumps onto the Dragon’s back and grabs hold of one of the spikes along its back as the Dragon lifts off into the air.

Rumfus’ hat gets blown off his head as he holds on tightly to the spike as he pulls back and thrusts the rusty sword into the Dragon’s back.

The Dragon writhes in pain as it loses control of its flight and falls.

It lands on the steep side of the mountain Rumfus had slid down and begun tumbling to the cliff below.

Rumfus lost his hold of the spike when the Dragon landed on the mountainside as he also began to tumble down to the cliff.

The Dragon was unable to stop himself, punctured and damaged by the large and sharp rocks on its way, wings broken.

The Dragon tumbles off the cliff and lands on its back, impaled by the jagged rocks at the bottom.

After a few moments, Rumfus lands on the Dragon’s belly but doesn’t seem to be nearly as damaged as the Dragon, just a few cuts and scrapes.

Rumfus pushes himself to his feet to see that there was a large rock protruding through the Dragon’s neck.

Rumfus inspects the rocks below the Dragon.

“You have something of mine…”

Rumfus jumps down off of the Dragon’s belly and pulls the rusty sword from its back.

He begins to tap the top of his head attempting to find his hat.

“Hmm… now, where could it have gone?

He looks up and sees his hat gently falling, landing in the palm of one of the Dragon’s claws.

Rumfus sighs.

“Now just to get my staff back…”

It had been a full year since the formation of the Nine Nations in Langstay and there was peace between the nine races. Sylkas Kiggin, the leader of the Elves, was still bitter about having lost the war a year past, it also didn't help that the other races, including the Ratmen, looked down upon their race. But that persecution was livable compared to the situation that Begg Gutbender and the Cyclopes were still dealing with. At the formation of the Nine Nations, Begg had asked for assistance in dealing with a Dragon problem that he and his race had been put through.
There were no signs of Dragons in years past until one day they appeared in the mountains of Dan'Burk and started destroying villages. None of the other races were willing to send their strongest or bravest fighters to help fight the Dragons, instead, they imposed a bounty to be paid to anyone brave, or stupid, enough to attempt to kill one of the Dragons. This is where Rumfus the Wizard comes in. Glory Bound, he and Cetrid headed to Dan'Burk to help Begg Gutbender and the Cyclopes with their Dragon problem.
