Chapter One (Family):
“We know her"
It was dark so it took time for me to adjust to the darkness of the room. It was a purple room with dark wooden floors, and in the center of it stood a woman whose hair was as dark as the room . Her shining green eyes stared at something far, far away from me, as if she was lost in thought, but as soon as my brain had registered that, her sharp eyes focused on me, making my whole body shake.
“Know who?” I asked, my voice awkwardly loud and squeaky as it echoed through the room
“Amanda” She said sharply, filling me with dread and worry. Dread and worry about what was to happen to Amanda, and dread and worry about what was going to happen to me because of it.
“What information do you know about her?" I cried out. The woman laughed and handed me a green book. She stared at me with a warm and sympathetic smile, but she was gone the second I saw it.
Shaken from my experience and worry, I took a moment to take in the room further. There was a bright lamp on an end table next to a black couch. A black wooden table stood in front of the couch, and I had studied the set up as I made my way to the couch and sat down,. I placed the book on the arm rest and looked at it the the lamp light. Flipping through the pages aimlessly, I tried to retain any form of information from it, but as soon as I would read a line from it, my recollection of what I had just read would dissipate.
“You have to read all of it" I heard a familiar laugh and I shot up, looking at the man in front of me.
“Dakota?” I smiled at him running up to him hugging him tightly.
“Woah Ashlie" He laughed and hugged me back tightly, burying his face in my hair.
“I'm sorry I haven't seen you all summer…” I said tearing up, pulling away to look into his eyes
“I know, I know. I mi-” His words faded out, as did he, as did the room. As did my thoughts...
“Dakota… Dakota!”
