While waiting to leave, Inyoninko sat perched on the narrow table beside Uuzhit's room, ignoring the three visitors. She did not use the earbuds she took from Asakay's room but thought of them often, aware of them in one of her back pockets. Asakay sat by her feet, his back hunched, mustering smiles but watching the three from a distance.
The three women had set the cake in the kitchenette. Iejei had to pretend she did not know her way around as they looked for plates, utensils and a knife. When one of the women found the whitening powder, there was giggling and teasing but not for Iejei. As Inyoninko and Asakay had learned, the voice muttering the sly insults as jokes belonged to the shortest of the three, the woman with a dark red bob, and as Inyoninko noticed, not only an ample bosom but a very round, perky ass. That woman, though now Inyoninko wondered if eighteen and nineteen-year-olds could be called women, was named Inerzhas. She and Iejei were very talkative.
The third woman, the tallest of the three, standing right at Inyoninko's height in her heels, with the long dark hair and slender figure was Ornest. She was quiet, speaking very softly and lightly. Her attention seemed to be on serving the cake, looking for serving plates and utensils, though she was heard chastising Inerzhas after they found the whitening powder. Cutting the cake and plating the slices, she took them as Iejei and Inerzhas continued to chatter nonstop. When she offered servings to Inyoninko and Asakay, Inyoninko refused but not after a quick glance at Ornest's shoulders and figure. Asakay seemed skittish. He shook his head, only to check with Inyoninko. Without looking away from her book, trying very hard to focus on words she could no longer register, she waved Asakay to accept it. Reluctantly, he took the utensil and slice of cake offered to him.
When Uuzhit came out a few moments later, Inyoninko and Asakay half-expected Iejei to throw herself at him but she just waved. The other two also greeted him. He nodded at them and strode into his room. Once the door was shut, Inerzhas remarked under her breath that if he was just a little darker and a little more muscular, he would be hot. When Inyoninko looked over, she found the fixed smile Iejei had as she played along, agreeing. The smile was even harder to hold when Inerzhas commented on Iejei's skin as well.
Inyoninko wasn't sure what the three were waiting for but they loitered near the opposite wall of the common area, chatting and eating the cake. Inerzhas made every effort to get Asakay involved in the conversation, asking him his favorite color, if he had been to the lanes, what he did back in Shsyryo, even the type of women he was interested in. Usually, Asakay had no problem with that question. He had grown accustomed to answering it the last two months. But at his vague, clipped answers, Inyoninko looked over and found him shifting, his hand shaking. He had his gaze down and stole a glance at her.
Uuzhit came out from his bedroom, dressed in a plain dark gray sweater with matching cargo pants. He had his bag slung over his shoulder and set it on the floor as he approached them. Inyoninko pulled her legs away and Asakay scooted over. As Uuzhit sat between them, Asakay handed over his serving of cake and the utensil. Uuzhit fixed his glasses, then accepted and turned to focus on the conversation the women were having, only to remember something. Turning his head to Inyoninko, he whispered for only her and Asakay to hear, "We'll leave in a few minutes."
Peering at him, Inyoninko lowered the book. She debated whether to throw it at Asakay and startle him. Deciding she would be a little nice, she slid her legs down and sat properly. Leaning towards Uuzhit, she told Asakay to grab his stuff. With a wide grin, he shot up. "Well that's it for me," he declared. He circled the women with his head down, ducking into his bedroom.
Uuzhit looked to Inyoninko. "Nothing?"
"Book will do."
He smirked. "Cell phone."
"Pocket."
Nodding to himself, he resumed eating the cake. The women resumed chatting. Inerzhas tried calling to Asakay but he did not respond, so she tried talking to Uuzhit, except he ignored her the same as Inyoninko. For one moment, there was a cold look on Iejei's face. Even though she was wearing bright orange lipstick, dotted eyeliner and eye shadow from orange to green, the look of her that one moment was dark. The only one who hadn't noticed was Inerzhas.
