After several moments, the Dragon’s wing begins to lift up, Etev raises its head in anticipation.
Rumfus emerged from underneath the wing, bloody, but not broken or defeated.
Gaucrog looks back to all the other Cyclopes.
"The Wizard did it!
He defeated the Dragon!"
All the other Cyclopes begin cheering, but stop when Etev flies into the air and lands near Alnostrasz's corpse and Rumfus.
Gaucrog puts his hand up back towards the Cyclopes as he looks down the mountain at the Dragon and Rumfus.
"Stop!"
Gaucrog watches as the Dragon looks at Rumfus.
After a few moments, Etev flies back up to the other two Dragons and shrieks at them, then lifts off and begins to fly away.
Vetakus and Atekus look at Gaucrog for a moment before following Etev.
Rumfus climbs the mountain and Gaucrog helps him to his feet.
Gaucrog puts a hand on Rumfus' shoulder.
"The Dragons left, Wizard, let's get you to Ditchford to get patched up before they decide to come back, huh?"
Rumfus laughs.
"They won't be bothering the Cyclopes anymore, Gaucrog."
Gaucrog tilts his head in confusion.
"What makes you so sure?
They're beasts, all they know is survival and destruction."
Rumfus grabs Stormbringer from Gaucrog.
"Yes, they are beast, but I'm sure they would rather survive than be destroyed."
Gaucrog laughs.
"So the crazy Wizard decides to alpha the shit out of the biggest one and the others flee, I like the way you work, Wizard!"
Rumfus nods, weakly.
"Something like that."
Rumfus turns and starts to walk as Gaucrog jogs to catch up.
"Hold on, you called that dead Dragon a name, Alno-something, what was with that?"
Rumfus nervously keeps looking forward for a moment as he continues to walk.
"Hmm... Alnostrasz, I like to name my foes if they've got no name of their own, makes it a little more personal, you know?"
Gaucrog continues to walk with Rumfus.
"Odd, either way, the Dragons no longer hold the mountains, my people can start to rebuild thanks to you, Wizard.
I don't suppose you'll be sticking around to help us more, will you?"
Rumfus smiles.
"No, Gaucrog, Cetrid and I won't be staying, I'm sure the Cyclopes can handle the rebuilding, others may need this Wizard's assistance."
Gaucrog nodded his head and they walked down the mountain to Ditchford.
As they walked, Rumfus thought to himself whether he should have mentioned that the Dragons were capable of speech.
What would everyone of Langstay think if they found out there was sentient life across the waters surrounding their land?
A fragile peace agreement had been made just a year past.
The people may not be ready for a discovery like this, they needed to focus on solidifying this peace before they were to look outward.
So Rumfus kept this to himself, but the words Etev spoke to him before leaving raced through his mind.
"Be wary, Wizard, we Dragons are far from the fiercest of the creatures that lay beyond the waters around the small island you reside on.
We will leave, just as Alnostrasz would want, but know this, we weren't the only ones yearning for light.
Others will come looking, will your people be ready for that?"
Rumfus walks out of a healer's hut in Ditchford, bandages across most of his torso.
Cetrid and Sgruk had been waiting outside for him.
Sgruk hits Cetrid on the back of his head.
"See?
I told you that he'd be fine!"
Cetrid rubs the back of his head
Sgruk runs up to Rumfus.
"Is it true?
I heard you killed all five Dragons!"
Rumfus smiles.
"No, I only had to kill two, the others got scared, so they flew away.
It's all thanks to you and Ashrune though, that I was able to survive."
Rumfus now standing proudly with his hands on his hips, facing the sky with eyes closed.
Sgruk looks at a small pack of supplies and a blood and rust-covered sword next to the healer's hut.
"You mean that thing?
Are you sure that's the same sword?
It's covered in rust..."
Rumfus opens his eyes quickly in shock.
"Uh... Yes!
Odd thing about Dragons blood when it's heated up, makes any metal look like it's rusting.
Just needs a quick buffing and Ashrune will be back to its former glory!"
Sgruk looks excitedly up at Rumfus.
Cetrid nervously walks up to Rumfus and pulls at his robe.
Rumfus looks down.
"Yes, my dear Cetrid, what is it?"
Cetrid looks down for a moment then looks up at Rumfus.
"Where's... uh... Brandy?"
Rumfus looks up and puts a hand on Cetrid's head.
"Brandy didn't make it...
I did avenge him, though."
Cetrid looks back at the ground.
"Oh... well, I don't think he... uh... liked me anyway."
A group of heavily armored Cyclopes walks up to Rumfus, one walks up in front.
"Excuse me, Wizard, Begg Gutbender would like to speak with you, he is in a secured camp on the other side of the mountain."
Rumfus turns and looks at the armored Cyclops.
"Ah, yes, I shall meet you on the other side of Ditchford momentarily, allow me the chance to finish my conversation here."
The armored Cyclops nods before walking away as the others follow him.
Rumfus grabs the pack of supplies and throws it over his shoulder, wincing for a moment when the strap lands on the wound.
"Let's get going, Cetrid, others may need our help, we've dawdled here long enough."
Sgruk looks at Rumfus, confused.
"But... Begg wanted to speak with you, surely he has a reward for you helping our people or something."
Rumfus picks the rusty sword up.
"I didn't do this for the reward, Sgruk."
Rumfus smiles as he puts a hand on Sgruk's shoulder.
"It was a pleasure to meet you Sgruk."
Sgruk looks up at Rumfus.
"It was nice meeting you too, Mr. Wizard!
And you can keep Ashrune, I know nothing of battle or weapons."
Rumfus smiles.
"Thank you, little one."
Rumfus and Cetrid then headed down the path, back east.
Cetrid looks up at Rumfus.
"Hey, is that... uh... really the same sword?"
Rumfus looks down at Cetrid after a moment.
"I'm not sure who made that sword he gave me, but it was not crafted well, broke on the first swing!"
Cetrid looks back at the path.
"Huh, must have been made as an... uh... decorative piece, or something."
Rumfus stops walking for a moment.
"A sword made to be decorative instead of usable?
What is the point of ever making something like that?"
Cetrid shrugs as the two continue to walk.
