DESTINY BECKONS

THIRTY THREE

THIRTY THREE

Dec 27, 2019

“I don’t... have any friends... of my age.”

“You have one now.” Dacia placed her larger hand on top of hers.

“Yes... I do.” Iola looked up and right into Dacia’s intense gaze.

“Iola, I won’t lie... I liked you the moment I saw you.” Dacia sounded more earnest than she had their entire time together. “If you haven’t guessed by now, I enjoy the company of men and women, and at times I prefer the company of women over men... women like you.”

“Oh... I see.” Now the heat from her ears and cheeks seemed to radiate all over her face. “I mean, I don’t know... I have never...”

“Why don’t you get into my head, now, and see what I mean.”

“I don’t know if I can.” Iola closed her eyes, feeling suddenly very unsure of everything. “I mean, I think... Haas... grandfather was guiding me, enhancing my abilities... I don’t know if I can...”

“You said he still lives... in you.” Dacia took both of Iola’s small hands into her larger ones and held them firmly. “Why don’t you channel his great powers to enter my mind?”

“Uh... I could.” Iola suddenly felt a weight lift off her and she smiled at the mercenary. “For a wayward rogue, you sound quite well read.”

“I wasn’t always a sellsword, little one.” Dacia exhaled deeply and reached for the near empty flagon of ale. “But that is a story for another night.”

“Oh, I would love to hear it.” Iola’s green eyes shone bright.

“Yes, but tonight,” The taller woman rose to her feet, lifted Iola up into her powerful arms and turned toward the stairway.  “Tonight I want us to write another story... together.”
