I decided to keep using my White Tailed Fox Form. I do not do a lot of damage in this form, but I am fast and my teeth are sharp. Being so small and not being to use magic forces me to adapt my fighting style. My Int stat isn’t as high in this form as it is in my Kitsune Form so complex thinking of multiple subjects is not as easy. Still while I trotted beside Russell watching the legs of Pettran and Anise in front of me I turned over the problems with fighting while being so small and my bite doing so little damage. I try to recall the fight with the wild foxes, how did they fight? They had been doing serious damage to Anise and Pettran before we arrived. They had surrounded them, that won’t work for me, I am the only fox here. They used their speed to attack the feet and ankles. Even now Pettran and Anise are moving slowly as if their feet hurt. They had been bleeding pretty heavily. I have very sharp teeth, who knows what they can cut through. I might be able to use it to sever some tendons and hobble the enemy. I might be able to bleed them out if I can keep from getting hit. I had some vague ideas and moves I might be able to use in battle, but I will have to try them out in a fight before I can be sure that they will work. I need to do the next fight by myself. I bumped Russell’s leg to get his attention. Once he looked down at me I bared my fangs and did a little jumpy dance to show me fighting. Then I raised my head and waved my tail. Russell looked confused for a moment. “You want to fight the next battle?” He asked uncertainly. I nodded and stopped so I was behind them and then lowered myself into a fighting stance, bared my fangs and darted around in a circle attacking invisible enemies. “You want to fight the next enemy alone?” He asked. I nodded again and raised my tail in approval. We are getting good at communicating without words, Russell and I. Russell sighed “If you are sure.” I let out a low yip to show him how serious I am. Russell sighed again and caught up to Pettran and Anise who had noticed that we had fallen behind and had given us room to have our conversation in private. “Elise would like to try to fight the enemy alone. She has some kind of scheme in her head and wants to try it out.” Russell told them. Pettran looked back at me, the doubt on his face obvious. “Really?” He asked. “Sure.” Anise said at the same time. Pettran looked over at her in shock. “That is cold Anise.” She shook her head, we had all stopped now. “We will be there if she needs help, but if she wants to try something out then we should not stop her. We are still wounded and a little more time to heal my ankles and feet will be much appreciated.” Pettran looked down at his own feet, I could smell the blood that was still soaking into the bandages there. They must be sore. Pettran gave me a long hard look then sighed and nodded.
It was only five minutes later when I smelled it, the smell of old blood and wet fur. It was coming our way at a rapid pace. I spun around in the direction of the incoming creature and let out a low growl. I flicked my tail to tell them to get back. They moved back to give me some room to face the incoming creature. A low roar greeted me just before the large body burst through the trees in front of me. The creature before me looks like a cross between a mad monkey and gorilla. It is almost as tall as Russell and Anise, with wide shoulders and thick arms and legs. It moves on all fours and is a mixture of black, brown and black fur. It growled and roared looking around the area where we had been. It’s nostrils flare as it tries to catch the scent. It was distracted trying to see who it was chasing and I darted in. I went straight for the back of the leg. Going off human anatomy I aimed for the spot where the ankle and the foot met. It is not so perfect with a random Gorilla type creature. I sunk my sharp little teeth in as deep as I could and sawed my teeth back and forth, not letting them retract from the flesh between my teeth. The large creature bellowed and shook its foot and me who was still clinging to it. It growled and howled, blood pooling out from between my teeth. I use my tongue to push the flow of blood out of my mouth so it will not drown me. I breathe in through my nose like a steam engine. If any of that blood came up to my nose then I am dead. The creature must have gotten tired of trying to shake me off and did something that I never expected him to. He threw himself down and began to roll. I got lucky. The first roll did not crush my neck, if I had been holding on at a different angle then I would have snapped my neck. I let go, I had to, on the start of the second roll. The force of the turn sent my small fox body flying and I hit a tree, hard. I must have bruised something if not several somethings in my side and leg. The creature stopped rolling and jumped to its feet before I could catch my breath. Every lungful of air hurt. The gorilla lunged towards me, and I can see all too easily how I will die: crushed by a large fist. The creature was only a few feet away from me when the gorilla creature startled back a few steps. I tried to look up and see what it was that had shocked the creature, but all I could see was leaves. I have almost gotten enough air into my lungs to move again and was praying that I will have enough time to recover before it attacks again when the side of the gorilla’s head starts to bleed. Pettran appeared beside the gorilla, his spear embedded into the creature’s head. Well that was a failure. I went over the battle in my head and thought about what went wrong. I did not take advantage of my speed at all. I probably could have used my small claws on all four of my paws to attack. They are tiny and probably won’t do too much damage, but any damage is better than no damage. Right? Yeah that checks. Next time I will adopt a more hit and run type of strategy. I checked the exp bar for my form. That battle gave me a lot of Exp, I reached level four. I must have missed the dings in my head when I was focusing on the pain in my side. White Tailed Fox Form Level 1-2, White Tailed Fox Form level 2-3, White Tailed Fox Form level 3-4. I looked down at my abilities and found that I do have a new one in my list. Yes. Heat Resistance: Only take ⅕ damage from heat (Fire, steam, air, heat). This is a skill that is not able to level up. This is my first skill from a non- S ranked form. Maybe the leveling up skills is something only the rarer forms have. I will have to gain more lower ranked forms and level them up to test out that theory.
