Jenny had a lot of questions. The main one being, how could her brother basically get married and become a father without telling her????
Even a simple little text would have been nice. But noooooo, he just showed up with his new family to pick her up at the airport, just like that.
She recognized Danny right away of course. She had watched their 5O commercial a million times. But she had had no idea who he really was to Kai.
She kept waiting for them to bring it up. But they didn't.
So, as they shopped for food and Kai went into his oldest sibling commanding role, Jenny fell back with Danny.
"He's always like this." She said.
"I know." Danny commiserated.
Jenny looked at her brother, at Elena, who she had only just met but already loved, then back at Danny. "How long have you two... How did you meet?"
"Camp." Danny said.
Kai and Elena were further down the aisle so Jenny and Danny started walking, but at a slower pace, keeping their distance.
"That's how grandma and grandpa met." Jenny said.
"Really?"
"She was one of his first counselors. Helped promote the camp to the community... Are you a counselor?"
"Yeah. Kinda. One of the parent volunteer ones. Had no choice really."
"Oh?"
"It was the logical thing to do. Logical. That's your brother's favorite word you know."
"And why was it logical?"
"Because, your brother is a complete and utter madman, a total neanderthal. If you didn't already know that, then I'm sorry to be the one to break it to you."
Jenny snorted and it caused Kai to look over at them suspiciously.
"Are you two talking about me?"
"And he's conceited too." Danny tsked. "Don't know why I put up with him."
Jenny helped cook the food, laughing and swapping stories with Danny, Kai, and Elena.
Dinner was loud with conversation and laughter.
As they watched Moana in the living room, Jenny sat on the couch with Elena, braiding her hair. Kai and Danny sat on the floor leaning against the couch. Soon, Elena began braiding Kai's hair, Kai and Jenny helping her section out his hair.
And then Kai tried to braid Danny's hair. Danny swatted Kai's hand away, but Kai tried again two musical numbers later and Danny allowed him, even leaning and scooting to give Kai a better position.
As they sang, laughed, and cried, along with the movie, Jenny felt at home for the first time in a long time.
Author's Note:
I rewatched Moana because I wanted to add more meaningful dialogue about it, but then, much like them, I ended up just crying and singing. I will probably update later with some of those moments that I had wanted them to have.
