Chapter 6
Lea was already out of their room for her first lecture after trying to wake up Candy numerous times to no avail. She was on her own. But now Lea faced a different problem, where exactly to find her lecture hall. She was almost out the dorm building when she bumped into someone.
“Oh, excuse me.” Lea said in apology. The girl she bumped into had curly brown hair, slightly tan skin and two horns on her head. She wore some kind of old-fashioned dress with flowers and petals adorned on them. She looked like a woodland princess, a real fairy queen.
The girl replied, “It’s fine, it happens.” She smiled at Lea but then her face looked conflicted before she gasped.
“You must be Lea Ulypher.”
Lea was surprised, she didn’t think most would know who she was. It was her first day.
“Don’t be surprised, your father is known very well for not only owning one of the best Fae enterprises and being of noble birth, but he is mostly well known by the younger generation for being an activist for divorce and pro-choice for arranged marriages.”
“Wow, my dad is awesome.”
“He is.” She continued, “Word was out he had a long-lost daughter out of wedlock who would be attending the school.”
Ah, I see, Lea thought. The gossip mill was already at work, but this girl didn’t seem to be malicious.
She extended her hand to Lea. “My name is Bethean but my friends call me Beth.”
“It’s nice to meet you Beth, mind if you could show me to my class,” Lea said. “I’m a bit confused.”
Beth agreed and they walked to her lecture hall.
Candy had arrived just before professor Ainstein with an ‘A’, he made sure they all remembered, had introduced himself and was about to get into the topic of the day since to his knowledge all students should have already seen the syllabus. He had also introduced the Teaching Assistant’s of the course Magical Sociology and Licht was one of them. Lea knew he was in the hall, she felt him but knowing he was also a TA in one of her classes felt like the world was tying them together. If she didn’t know any better, she would think he was a TA in all her four courses this year.
Candy wasn’t all put together and her eyes spoke that she hated this and wanted to return to sleep. Ainstein must have heard and seen her but he pretended he didn’t and continued on with the lecture.
“He doesn’t care much for what we do, as long as he’s done his job for the day.” The one who spoke was a male with dark brown hair, brown eyes, one horn at the right side of his face and his ears…they didn’t seem long enough but pointed enough to be a Fae. He was mixed, Lea thought, but what, she didn’t know. Candy sat right next to him, so she had been the one to reply.
“Well that’s good for me because I don’t care for his 8am classes.”
“Neither do I but hey I thought might as well start the year off right before I party off the rest of it.” He gave her this boyish grin and Candy grinned in return. She saw it, he had charmed her.
“I definitely agree my fine fellow.”
“I am mighty fine.”
“Are you both going to keep flirting with each other or even try to listen to this lecture?”
That was when the guy finally looked at Lea and grinned again. “I apologise for not noticing the other beautiful woman next to you, I’m Dorian and while Ainstein’s lecture may be interesting I’m more interested in talking with you both.”
Candy was chuckling the entire time and Lea just stared into her notebook out of embarrassment. Candy started whispering something into Dorians left ear and he chuckled. Lea gave up on them and returned to listening to the lecture.
“Let’s now bring in the topic of mates,” Ainstein said and paused. He stared at the class and then continued while walking in front of them.
“Mates, soul mates, believed to be bound by life itself, their souls,” he said dramatically, “it is even said that their very first meeting would be like they had found their one and the rest of the world never mattered.”
Lea shook in her seat.
“Oh boy, I know what you’re thinking.” Candy said and turned to her, “Don’t.”
“But what if-”
“Don’t.” Candy said firmly with her hand over hers.
Dorian tapped Candy on her shoulder and as she turned to him, he asked, “I know we’re not best friends yet but I can see there is a problem here and I want you to know if you need my help-”
“Lea’s thinking some guy here is her soul mate.” Candy whispered. Lea smacked her on the arm and the entire class went silent. They had all turned to look at her and all three of them sat and watched them back uncomfortably. Lea noticed Licht had seen her and turned back to face the professor, who himself had turned to look at the three of them, roll his eyes and continue the lecture.
Lea sighed and then turned her blazing eyes on Candy. “Why did you tell him that?”
“Because you have first sight love for a guy you hardly know and I think it’s making you paranoid”, She said. “And I think someone else other than me has to tell you to stop too or ask him out.”
Dorian asked Lea, “What did it feel like when you met him.”
Lea was about to explain but she decided on what she thought was a better way to get her point across. She showed Dorian through his mind what she felt, and what she saw. The feeling of being in a space where only both she and Licht existed in each other’s arms together. Dorians eyes went wide, and it made Candy slightly panic.
“What’s going on?” She turned to both of them. “Dorian? Lea?”
“I just showed him what I felt when I saw Licht.”
Before Candy could scold Lea for being intrusive to people’s minds, Dorian calmed her down by holding her hand. Candy felt its warmth and it made her heart quicken for a bit.
“She’s right.”
Lea and Candy had their eyebrows raised in question.
“Lea’s right, Candy” he said. “Licht is definitely her soul mate.”
