Once upon a night in Langstay, after a long day of brewing his now-famous ale, King Rumfy's Spice, Rumfus took a trip to the Tavern with his favorite barkeep, The Grog Bog.
Although, it wasn't really that difficult of a day now that everything was pretty much set up to work on its own.
And whatever wasn't, Cetrid was there to keep an eye on.
In all honesty, Rumfus didn't do too much anymore other than handling the deliveries, and even that, Cetrid loaded the carriage and Mitsy was the one who pulled the cart.
Rumfus kind of just supervised at this point.
After arriving in Wishton, Rumfus went to The Grog Bog and walked up to the bar and asked Tedly, the owner of the establishment, for one of his finest ales.
Tedly rolled his eyes as he already knew why Rumfus had come by, seeing as this was almost a daily request.
Yes, Rumfus could stay in and drink at his headquarters, this would be cheaper for him, but he would rather hear the gossip and stories that the other patrons were discussing while sometimes spewing stories of his adventures to up-and-coming adventurers.
On this particular night, though, three Trolls were talking about rumors of some sort of Spirit or Demon who grants power to ones that the being deems worthy.
One of the Trolls mentions that he heard the Spirit grants the person wealth.
Another mentions that what the Demon offers is a lie and it steals the person's soul.
The last then asks where this being can be found and how to invoke it.
The first Troll explains the route to an abandoned cabin somewhere deep in the forests surrounding Mt. Foog.
One of the Trolls gets excited and convinces the others to go looking for this cabin.
With that, the trolls got up, dropped the shillings they owed and left The Grog Bog.
Rumfus had been slyly listening in and, although the Wizard knew it was foolish to mess with Spirits or Demons, he decided to follow the three young Trolls.
Rumfus finished his ale and walked out of the Tavern.
After the door closed, Tedly turned around while saying something directed at Rumfus only to find he was no longer there.
Tedly stepped up and looked at where Rumfus had been standing, Tedly sighed as he realized that Rumfus hadn't left any shillings.
"Put it on the tab" Tedly could imagine hearing Rumfus say.
After a few hours of traveling the dark forest, the three Trolls came across a circular clearing in the forest, the grass shifted from a lively green at the outskirts of the clearing to a bland and dead tan color in the center where a small, single door cabin sat.
The cabin had no windows and barely looked big enough for more than one person to live in.
The wood was rotted and looked as if the cabin was about to collapse upon itself.
Two of the Trolls ran excitedly to the cabin while one walked cautiously trying to warn the others that maybe this had not been such a good idea.
After being called several mean slurs, the last Troll walked reluctantly into the cabin with the others.
Rumfus stayed amongst the trees on the outside of the clearing, waiting to see what would happen.
After a few minutes, he began to hear the three Trolls arguing, but he couldn't make out what it was they were saying.
The arguing got worse and worse.
The only thing Rumfus was able to make out was the last thing he heard one of them say, which was "It's mine, you can't have it!"
Suddenly, there was a bunch of loud commotion, screams, and shouts coming from the cabin.
All fell silent after several seconds.
Rumfus watched the front door, curiously.
Slowly, the cabin door began to open, but no one walked out.
After a few moments, Rumfus walked up to the cabin.
He peaked in through the front door.
There was one of the Trolls, face down, by the door with a dagger in his back, looked as if he was trying to run away.
Rumfus entered the cabin, stepping over the corpse.
He found another with his throat slit and several stab wounds.
Rumfus then noticed the third Troll on the ground, trying to drag himself towards a barrel.
On Top of this barrel was a pouch that seemed to be overflowing with gold coins.
The Troll reached up to the pouch but was unable to grasp it.
He dropped and slowly rolled onto his back and looked at Rumfus for a moment before closing his eyes.
Rumfus noticed that the Troll had been holding on to a Dirk that was stuck in his ribcage.
The Wizard looked around the cabin as he noticed there was an odd presence.
He shrugged his shoulders, grabbed the pouch of money and walked out of the cabin.
As Rumfus reached the treeline, smiling, he heard the cabin door slam closed.
Rumfus turned quickly to see that the cabin was no longer there, in fact, neither was the clearing.
He just saw trees.
Shrugging again, Rumfus walked back towards The Grog Bog for another drink.
