I like to write and I have gathered many friends over the years who also like to write.
We have many things in common such as too many novelty mugs, weird sleep schedules and search histories that make us look like serial killers. And we often have similar problems such as naming things, picking a title, figuring out problems and that good old classic writer's block.
Writer's block is the condition that I see most people worried about. But in all honesty I think for most people it is a less common problem than what I like to term Writer's flood.
Writer's flood is when you have so many ideas and stories buzzing around in your brain that you can't pick out just one without a hundred more yelling at you for attention.
If you are feeling creative it is not unsurprising that it spills over. Especially when an idea you are working on may be losing its shine faster than you can finish it. I had a friend on a play by post forum who seemed to have written a new character each week as a new idea struck him. I see that same sudden new project moment a lot in the webcomics and novels uploaded online, especially if it is the first one they have published.
And I don't blame them. It is hard to work on a long term project without it happening. Especially if the first idea hasn't fully gripped you.
Hell i'm certainly guilty of it. I started a whole new novel and gave up on the fiction story I started publishing here.
In fact I wrote this because it struck me as a good idea while fleshing out characters for something else. What I guess i'm trying to say is help! Because I haven't got a clue how to stop it.
