There was only one thing worse than being sick, being sick while you had six cracked ribs, were recovering from a concussion and were covered head to toe in bruises including one that made your whole neck purple.
Bex was miserable. Not only was her nose all stuffy but when she sneezed she was in a whole new world of pain. Her headache only made her recovery from a concussion that much worse. Not to mention she all but couldn't talk because her throat hurt so much.
Bex whimpered as she woke up with a sneeze. She quickly came to the conclusion that it was going to be a very bad day. A sick day.
"Morning my love," Lyssa was still sitting in the same position and Bex was still resting her head on Lyssa's lap.
Bex tried to say morning but all that came out was a horse whisper.
"Don't, if you strain yourself it will make it harder to recover. Talk to me through our bond. Here, take some more pain medication." Lyssa quickly shook out a couple more pills to give to Bex.
Bex struggled to sit up and Lyssa had to help her, causing Bex to hiss in pain. After taking the pills and drinking some water Bex was able to get out,
"Remind me to never piss you off again."
Lyssa let out a light chuckle,
"I believe I try to remind you of that every day."
"I would like to point out, you broke up with me." Bex's croaked out.
"I would like to point out that every day we are apart, breaks my heart." Lyssa pulled Bex into her arms, causing her to yelp in pain, then Lyssa nuzzled her head into Bex's shoulder and began to give her light kisses on the exposed skin. Careful not to hurt Bex's neck.
Bex sighed and let herself melt into the vampire's grasp.
'We need to talk about this,' Bex said through their bond, not wanting to hurt her throat anymore.
'What is there to talk about?'
'How about how you are being extra smothery and super territorial when we aren't even together right now.'
'You belong to me.'
'I think that is for me to decide, not you.'
"No Rebecca. I'm not letting you go." Lyssa said out loud, tightening her grip around Bex's waist.
'I already told you, I don't want to be a vampire.'
Lyssa let out a cute whimper that Bex had never heard before, it caused her cheeks to flush. Lyssa smiled into Bex's skin, having felt Bex's emotions.
'Could I ever change your mind?' Lyssa asked.
'No. I don't know, maybe. Ugh! See, I'm still confused. Stop being so cute right now.'
Lyssa chuckled lightly.
'It's a lot to take in okay, as it stands right now, I haven't changed my mind. Meaning you and I still can't be together. I'm with Joan now, I need to figure myself out, it could take days, weeks, months, maybe even years. I just don't know Lyssa. I love you, you know I love you, but I need to figure myself out first.'
'I thought I could wait for you but finding out you were with that slayer just—'
'I know, I felt it. I'm not asking you to wait for me, you can be with other people too if it helps.'
'I love you, Rebecca, truly love you. I will never feel this way about anyone but you. Meaning trying to be with someone else is meaningless. I love you so much that you were able to break my curse. I have never loved anyone as I love you, not even Elizabeth.'
'So what are we going to do? You know I love you, yet I don't want to be a vampire. You love me, yet you won't be able to love me forever. So now what?'
Lyssa closed her eyes and nuzzled her face into Bex's shoulder to hide her expression of pain. Bex grabbed her hand and interlocked their fingers.
"Why Rebecca? Why is living forever with me such a bad thing?"
"I already told you." Bex croaked out.
"Okay I get that you want to experience life but what is the point of experiencing it all if I am not there with you? If you truly love me, that would be a painful thing to do."
"I don't want to talk about this anymore." Bex's eyes watered and she closed them to stop tears from falling.
Lyssa kissed her shoulder and changed the subject,
"Are you hungry?"
Bex nodded softly.
"Then I shall make food."
'You've been practicing?' Bex asked through their bond.
'Of course my love, I told you I have something special planned for your birthday , which is only a few days away. My plan is well thought out and it doesn't involve me poising you with my food.'
Bex giggled but then winced and clutched her ribs in pain.
'Don't make me laugh.' Bex pouted, elbowing Lyssa.
"Sorry my love," Lyssa smiled, picking Bex up carefully in her arms and carrying her off the bed.
"Ugh, ow, this hurts," Bex complained out loud.
Lyssa used her super speed to go to the kitchen and carefully sit Bex down on a chair. Bex sighed and shifted around in place to get more comfortable. Lyssa then turned and quickly grabbed some ingredients to make some chicken noodle soup from scratch.
Lyssa clicked a remote that was sitting on the counter and classical music began to play through the house.
Joan got ready as if she was going to school, but she had other plans unbeknownst to her brother and mother. In her backpack, instead of her books and her homework, she had a stake and a knife, as well as the bible and garlic.
She shoved her phone in her back pocket and put on a jacket before carefully slipping her bag on her back, not wanting to hurt her shoulder.
"Have a good day at school." Her mom called.
"Okay," Joan called back.
Her mother was trying to be there for her kids, but Joan was proving to be extra difficult to get to. Not to mention the mom was struggling herself to keep going on as normal as if her husband was just at work, or on his way home and that's why he wasn't here.
Joan grabbed her brother's truck keys and left the house.
She shut the door quietly as to not wake her brother and have him asking her questions as to why she needed the truck to drive to school. When Joan got into the truck she glanced at her phone, half expecting a text from Rooney, but saw nothing. She eyed her phone for a minute not really sure how that made her feel then she took a calming breath and drove to Lyssa's house. She parked just outside the new security fence and walked up to the gate. There was a camera there with a red light blinking at her.
She eyed the gate and pressed a button on a keypad by the camera. She waited for something to happen and looked around.
"Leave," Lyssa's voice said.
Joan flinched and looked back at the camera.
"I want to see Rebecca."
"No."
Joan heard the line click, indicating Lyssa had hung up.
Joan sighed and eyed the gate, sizing it up. With her shoulder still healing up, her chances weren't good. She frowned and kicked the gate, testing its sturdiness before looking back at the truck. She smirked to herself before getting back in the truck and reversing back and getting ready to punch it forward.
She had put the car into drive and held the wheel tightly. Then with a deep breath, she punched the gas. Before the truck could ram into the gate, it began to open and Joan slammed on the breaks.
"That's what I thought," Joan said before driving inside.
She parked the truck and grabbed her bag, getting ready to use the contents inside if needed. She hopped out of the truck and walked up to the door and tried the knob, it was locked. So she pounded on the door.
She waited a minute but when nothing happened, she pounded on the door again.
"Seriously?" Joan muttered under breath before looking for alternative ways to get inside. Her eyes landing on a window. She was about to walk over to it when the door opened.
"You must really want to die today." Lyssa crossed her arms and leaned against the doorway, blocking Joan from getting in.
"I'm here to see my girlfriend."
Lyssa flashed her red eyes and got ready to fight until Bex came up behind her and hit her on the arm.
Lyssa sighed and looked at Bex. It was clear to Joan they were having an unheard argument.
"You test me Rebecca," Lyssa said out loud before stepping aside.
Bex smiled at Lyssa before looking at Joan.
Joan moved to step inside but Bex held out her hand to stop her.
"Bag," Bex said in her hoarse voice.
Joan sighed and handed Bex her bag. Bex looked inside and glared at Joan before handing the bag to Lyssa who used her super-strength to hurl the bag outside, past the security gate. Joan grumbled under her breath before stepping inside.
Bex grabbed Joan's hand and pulled her to the small kitchen table, different from the huge dining room table.
The pleasant smell of chicken soup greeted Joan's nose and she couldn't help but take a deep breath. Lyssa followed close behind them, glaring at Joan the whole time.
Bex sat back down, slowly, careful not to hurt herself. Joan pulled up a chair next to her. Lyssa stood behind them, looming over them, watching closely.
"Are you okay? Well, obviously not, what the hell happened?" Joan asked.
Bex looked to Lyssa who nodded in approval.
That irked Joan that Bex needed Lyssa's permission to tell her what happened.
"Lyssa... Was cursed." Bex forced out, her voice no louder than a whisper.
Lyssa vanished and then reappeared with a pen and a pad of paper. She handed it to Bex, and Bex smiled appreciatively at her. Joan glared at Lyssa who glared right back.
Bex began to write down the whole story, a summary of what happened. How Lyssa was cursed by a witch, how Bex broke the curse. How two Lyssa's appeared and one wanted to kill her. How they were able to go back together. And how the curse was gone now, for good. Or so they assumed.
She handed the pad to Joan to read then resumed eating her soup while Joan read.
"Well, what is the verdict?" Lyssa asked Bex while Joan was reading.
Bex smiled and gave a thumbs-up, talking to Lyssa through their bond.
Lyssa giggled at something Bex had said and shook her head. Causing Bex to laugh then clutch her ribs in pain and giving Lyssa the stink eye. Which only made Lyssa smile wider. Joan watched the whole exchange out of the corner of her eyes, it made her stomach turn.
Joan set the pad down, "So you're telling me for a brief moment in time there were two Lyssa's?" Joan said.
Bex nodded.
"Talk about a nightmare. So, Lyssa technically did do this to you?"
Bex looked to Lyssa with a look of worry.
"I was not in the right state of mind." Lyssa supplied.
"So what happens if you snap again? This other Lyssa is inside of you now, right? So what is stopping you from almost killing her again?" Joan asked.
"I would never kill her, you on the other hand."
Bex sighed and went back to eating.
"If I've said it before, I've said it a thousand times. She's not safe with you. You are going to get her killed." Joan said.
"Let me make this clear right here and right now, your opinion means nothing to me." Lyssa spat at her.
Bex shook her head and ignored them.
