DESTINY BECKONS

FIFTY ONE

FIFTY ONE

Dacia was down on the ground in a heap, groaning loudly.

Iola’s heart was almost in her mouth as she looked down to see a heavy boot press down on the sell sword’s throat.

To her it seemed as if she was doing that to Dacia herself.

“Kargan!” A loud snarl made her host turn his head to the right. “Enough of that. Lord Esamus wants her alive.”

“But he didn’t say anything about her being in one piece, did he?” Iola heard Kargan rumble inside her head.

“Shut the fuck up and bring her in.” The snarling voice thundered.

“Aye, Captain.” Kargan grunted back and Iola watched his large hand reach down and drag Dacia to her feet by her short dark hair. “She was not going to be much fun anyway.”

“Not for you, she wasn’t” A new voice, velvety smooth yet sinister, sounded from behind, sending another chill through Iola.

“My Lord.” The snarling Captain’s tone mellowed as Kargan spun around.

Iola’s eyes went wide at the sight of the nemesis of her people. The Lord of Sidusca, Atoka Somsun Esamus himself.

“My Lord, we were about to bring her to you.” The Captain went down on one knee.

Iola felt her host follow suit, and she noted the other imperial guards kneeling down too. Kargan pushed Dacia down before him, right next to Esamus’ expensively booted feet.

“Never mind that, Captain Farokas.” Esamus’ silvery voice laughed with venomous intent. “It is not every day that a mere lordling like me gets to greet royalty. Wouldn’t you concur, Princess Dvina-Celesta.”
