*Thud*
"Owwww" Harley complained.
"It's your own fault for running in the house" yelled his mom from the other room. She had previously mopped the house, and it seemed that her son had slipped on one of the remaining puddles.
"Haha, I win!" yelled George, one of Harley's closest friends since childhood, "Now hand over the prize."
Harley put his hand on his wrist and carefully took off one of the bracelets he was wearing. "You just got lucky." Harley sulked.
"I sure did!" yelled George as he took the bracelet from Harley and put it on. Harley was still on the floor and was looking up at his friend. He noticed how George was quite large compared to him, and he felt a little intimidated.
They had just turned 15 and graduated middle school. It was customary for kids to go to low school, then mid school to finish their education. After that however, they could choose to go work at a job, or go to a high school for a more specific area of expertise, instead of the general education taught by the other two. Harley wasn't too interested in continuing school because he wanted to get a job and have a normal life as soon as possible, and he knew that school was definitely not needed for that. George, however, had decided to go into a high school after he finished his education to follow in his father's footsteps as an adventurer.
It was an adventurer's job to hunt for precious materials dropped by monsters. ( Adventurers have many different tiers and ways to earn money, but we won't go into that right now.)
Harley had always thought of George's dad to be cool, and had often thought of him as a father figure. It helped that he would often come back to town and bring items for George and Harley after he was done with his quest. Harley and George often dreamed of being adventurers together and defeating multiple monsters at once with ease.
"Now that I have this, I have a bracelet of 3 elements!" George exclaimed as he put on the bracelet. He already had another two on at the time, a light blue one, and a dark green.
"I get it, you got another Tempest from me. That doesn't mean you can beat me though." Harley pointed out in a slightly nonchalant tone. " I still have my second-tier earring on and with that, and first-tier you have will lose." George knew this was true, as any second-tier Tempest was significantly stronger than a first-tier, regardless of what element had been infused into the accessory.
"Wanna duel? I want to test out my new fire Tempest." George asked Harley, hoping he would say yes and offer him a chance to us the new Tempest he had gained.
"Sure, but first, let's go upstairs and sleep. It's late and your dad gets back tomorrow"
"I guess that's a good point..." George said as he lost a bit of the anticipation. They headed upstairs and went to Harley's room, which at this point, had been both of theirs, because of how often George would stay at Harley's house.
They both got in the bed after cleaning themselves up. After a minute, Harley blew out the candle and closed his eyes.
Harley stood up and nothing was around him other than the grass on the floor. "What the fu--" he stopped himself before he said anything and ran over to a little sparkle he saw in the grass. He arrived and looked down at the necklace with a confused face. The necklace was changing colors. Red-Blue-Yellow-Light Blue-Dark Green-Purple-White-Light Green, then, in the middle of it all, it rose up 5 feet in the air, started spinning and producing more and more light. Then, all of a sudden, it fell and there was the same necklace, but just the color black now. No changing colors, nothing about it seemed off, other than the fact it was emanating a powerful aura. He went over to pick it up, but just as he was about to touch it, he passed out.
