“Hey Djinn, do you want to help us with choosing who should go?”
“Yeah, I like this guy. I think he’d do a great job for us.”
“Yeah, help us!”
The chorus rained down on him as they crowded around their perfect impartial judge. He sighed internally, suddenly taken aback by the attention and burden of responsibility that had been placed on his shoulders.
He had no real interest in the goings-on of the over-world as he had already been there for quite a while and was still adjusting to life in Hell. He was content to send them off as a spectator, but he was also happy to help them with their process of sending off the forces.
It was the least he could do to give back to the community that welcomed him so warmly.
“Uh, yeah I guess I could,” he smiled wearily, “I mean I’m probably not the best guy for such an important role…” However he trailed off as his complaints were immediately met with another chorus as the group crowded even closer.
“Oh no, I remember when you helped me with that issue with my landlord…”
“Dude, you’re always so organised it’s great.”
“I saw you help that Behemoth cross the road the day, such an upstanding citizen man.”
He pushed the crowd back, “Okay, okay, I’ll do it. I’ll help out.” He scratched his head, leaning back and wondered out loud. “Hmm I think the best candidate would be the demon most useful to Satan right?”
The succubus purred demurely, “Oh, that would surely be me. My powers are subtle and flexible enough to aid the Demon Lord’s efforts rather than my oafish contemporaries.” She laid a delicate hand on his shoulder and leaned forward seductively. Before the others in the crowd could complain, the Djinn waved her off absentmindedly.
“Hmm, no it would have to be quantifiable for the degree of usefulness that you would be able to provide. In terms of battle strength…um, strategy, let’s see…we would definitely need to consider leadership as a quality here…” he trailed off as he lost himself in thought, gently twiddling the horn between his fingers.
The demons hid their grins as the snubbed Succubus stormed away into a corner, her pleasant face now twisted with a dark grimace. The ghoul and dullahan gloated to whoever would listen how they would each take the commanding role as they were the best to lead the forces to victory.
