Zoe walked through the city making sure to blend in with everyone. She
found herself at a body shop. In the front of the shop was a motorcycle for
sale.
“Oh please god let it be a reasonable price?”
Walking into the front doors a man stood there with grease on his clothing.
“Can I help you ma’am?”
He was an older man who looked very busy but was polite.
“I was interested in the bike out front.”
The man walks over looking at the bike then Zoe.
“It is two grand for the bike. It has a full tank of gas as well ma’am.”
Zoe counted out the money handing it over to him. She was so excited to
have some money left over.
“Thank you Sir.”
He smiled, patting my head a little. I walked out to the bike as the man threw
a helmet over. Getting onto the bike it felt good. It had been a long while
since I’d ridden one.
Starting the engine I glanced around to make sure no cops were in sight. The
old man gave me directions to leave the city. Surprisingly he didn’t even
wonder why I wanted the least known route. Unknown to me was Jeremy
watching everything on his computer. When I was about to turn down an
alley street the lights started to flicker in Morse code. I stopped getting
annoyed from the message. Jeremy was playing with her but being honest.
The message told her Noah was already in the city. If she wanted to stay
hidden then to keep moving quickly. It also said to get a cell phone or else
they would tell Noah.
“Great so now I am dealing with some annoying asshole who finds this
funny.”
Jeremy laughs reading her lips on the screen. Pulling the visor down I turn
towards the phone store. If they really meant to tell Noah I would listen to
them. It was only a cell phone so not much I needed to worry about
hopefully.
Soon as the phone was active it rang. A man's voice spoke on the other side.
“Hello, Zoe Lapis. I’m Jeremy. It is nice to speak with you. Just to let you
know Noah wanted me to track you down for him. Don’t worry I’m not
going to tell him about your little escape route. Just a suggestion to change
the direction to the second option the old man gave you. There is no police
in that area right now.”
Well should I be glad or skeptical of this man? Either way I did as he said
which worked out. It was a few hours when the cell phone rang again. Pulling
over I see it is the same number. Great what did this man want now?
“Zoe you should make sure to keep going till dead tired. Noah is already
searching everywhere in this city. Soon as he finds out you are gone there
will be hell to pay.”
If there was going to be hell then why even help me? I knew from the vision
and personal experience how scary Noah could act.
Letting out a sigh I look at the map on the cell. It showed a couple of small
towns that I could pass through before nightfall. If I kept going till late at
night I’d travel a pretty good distance. Maybe I could buy some more clothes
in one of the towns? It was highly doubtful that my torn up clothing didn’t
stick out with my other weird appearance.
“Okay, I got it.”
Really didn’t feel the need to say more to him. After hanging up the phone I
sat there on the bike watching traffic. Was this going to be a normal thing
running away from Noah and Devon? Brushing some hair from my eyes I
started to laugh at myself. I traded one fucked up life for another. While
riding it seemed that Jeremy guy was still keeping track of my whereabouts.
I stopped in a small town. When I took the helmet off the owner of the
outdoor food-stand stared. Yeah I know get it over with already mister. He
didn’t understand why I laughed while walking over.
“I’d like two hot dogs and some chips please?”
The man nodded looking slightly embarrassed from his behavior. He smiled
after I paid for the food. I sat down on the bench next to his stand eating my
food. The man kept looking over to me. Finally getting slightly annoyed I
stood up walking over to him.
“What? I know my appearance is a little strange but can’t I even eat in
peace?”
His mouth opened wide as he blushed deeply.
“Um...I wanted to say that you are really pretty Miss. Please forgive me for
being so rude to stare at you.”
Huh...he thought I was pretty? Wow this man had some strange taste but it
was kind of cute. Thanking him I finished the food and got back to the bike.
In the next town I buy a few outfits plus a new one to wear. They also had a
wig store so I bought one to cover my hair.
The new outfit covered almost all my skin from the neck down. It worked
well with the long brown wig. I’d also gotten a jacket to keep warm on the
bike. Not riding for so long I’d forgotten how cold the wind got on your body.
When nightfall came I’d stopped twice to fill the tank of the bike. The phone
rang once more it was Jeremy.
“Yes, I am still moving so don’t worry about it. I even bought stuff to
change up my looks. Although I get the feeling you already know this.”
I could hear him laughing on the other end. Did he have to be such a wise
ass about this whole situation? Just sitting on the bike I wait till his laughing
spill is finally over.
“Yeah you are right. Just to let you know Noah has covered almost all of
this city. You might need to drive even if dead tired.”
Great so now I would have to drive a vehicle that is so dangerous if you aren’t
all there to escape him.
“I will call you back later since Noah is actually calling me right now.”
Ha ha serves you right for being an asshole even while helping me. Although
I really didn’t want him to be found out.
Jeremy put down his extra phone with an annoyed look to his face. Noah was
already yelling on his main phone.
“I swear for someone who can hack into any fucking system you can’t find
one woman. What the hell is wrong did she literally vanish or something?”
Letting out a sigh Jeremy calms himself down to speak.
“She hasn’t vanished but I’ve still not found her. Zoe must be a hell of a lot
smarter than we think. She has avoided all security feeds. If she is even
still in this city I will find her.”
Noah hangs up the phone yelling to some men. They quickly took off in their
cars. Noah leans against his own car with a frustrated sigh.
“If you think I’ll give up this easy you are wrong Miss Zoe.”
He smirked to himself looking at a picture he’d taken of Zoe in her party
attire secretly.
“Why do I feel drawn to you?”
Noah gets into the car checking his GPS for all the exits to the city. When it
dawned on him she was gone he started the car taking off quickly. He calls
Jeremy once more placing the call to his car.
“She has left the city. I want you to check within a 200 mile radius of the
city for her.”
Jeremy could be heard spitting his cola out in shock.
Jeremy quickly cleans up the spilled cola while on speaker with Noah.
“Are you fucking crazy or what? It is one thing to have me searching for
someone but this is going a little too far man. Are you in love with this girl
or something?”
Noah was silent on the other end. He didn’t know how to reply. It was true
his actions were crazy even though he knew this but couldn’t help himself.
“I just have to find her, that is all Jeremy.”
