Miss...
The young girl found herself in a field of flowers. A field comprised of snow-colored spider lilies. The place seemed familiar yet unfamiliar at the same time. Has she been here before? She carefully stood up from where she sat. Her eyes met the clouds above her. They were white like the flowers. She glanced around to see what else was there. She noticed a small figure sleeping under a large maple tree.
Miss...
Was that her family's tree? She carefully stepped over the delicate flowers. She wanted a closer look at the tree and the small figure. Her palms rest on the trunk once she arrived. Her sapphire hues examining the young child.
"...A little girl?"
She was so small and cute. Cradling a flower in her tiny palms. What was she doing in a place like this? Was she lost? The young girl sat beside the child. She quietly stares at her, allowing the wind to brush her cheeks.
...Nanami.
Her ears perked up. Did someone call her name? She glanced around and found no one in sight. It was just the two of them. Her attention was drawn to the little girl again. She seemed familiar. Has she met this child before? Her messy locks reminded her of herself. Yet unlike her auburn hair, hers were charcoal. Her fingertips reached for the child's curly strands. Just as she was about to touch it, she heard her name again.
"Miss. Nanami!"
Her turquoise orbs shot open. She noticed the eyes of another staring back at her. Her body felt cold and heavy. She glanced side to side and found herself lying on the grass. Did she fall asleep? She looked over to her window and found the sheets to be gone. Her memory starts to come back. She was on her way out wasn't she? Her eyes stare up at her maple tree. Compare to her dream, its leaves were painted red and orange.
Right, it's autumn now.
"Why are you sleeping in the garden?"
"Ah..."
Her eyes focus on the maid speaking to her.
"...Kiyo?"
The young maid smiles as she caught the attention of the lady of the house.
"Are you feeling okay?"
She nods. She felt like she was forgetting something. Staring at her companion's raven locks reminded her of someone. She gasps as she recalls her earlier encounter. The young girl sat up quickly and startled the maid. She searched her surroundings and found nothing. It was just the two of them. Her hands gripped the maid's palms and posed her a question.
"Did you see a handsome man bring me here?"
The young maid grew white after hearing this.
"Y-Young Miss! Did this man kidnap you?"
"Eh?!"
The blonde shakes her head, quickly denying her accusations in the process.
"No no no! It's nothing like that! I met him on my way out!"
She sighs deeply after hearing her reasoning.
"That's good to hear."
She glanced at the girl who has a few leaves stuck in her hair. She smiles again and begins to pluck them out.
"I'm sorry, but I didn't see someone come here."
"I see..."
She goes quiet. A little disappointed that nobody spotted him.
"What are my chances of seeing him again?"
"Hm... it depends. Do you know his name?"
"No..."
Her voice grew softer after hearing that. How could she neglect to ask for his name? She gave her's up in seconds... Then an idea came to mind. He should still be in the area. This was a small town. Maybe a quick search will solve this issue. She quickly stood up and made her way towards the fence.
"I'm going to go look for him-"
"No ma'am you're not!"
The young women firmly held on to the girl's palms.
"It's late and dinner is ready!"
"It won't take long-"
"It doesn't matter! You need to come inside now."
She frowns at her response. When morning comes, he'll be gone. The young maid quietly watches as the girl's demeanor shifts. She released her grip and gently pats her down. Wiping the dirt from her hakama.
"You can search for him tomorrow."
When she was finished wiping, she cradled the girl's palms and smiles.
"I will accompany you. We need some ingredients for tomorrow's dinner."
The young mistress stays quiet. Patience was never her strong suit. She wants to search for him, but she doesn't want to disobey her. She's like a big sister. Then there's also her parents. If she doesn't show up for dinner, they'll find out she's been sneaking out. She reluctantly follows the older women into her house. Hoping for tomorrow to come quickly.
The next day came and gone. Like a ghost, he disappeared. The young girl pressed her forehead into her pillow, letting out a frustrated cry.
"This suck! He wasn't anywhere in town!"
Her closest friend kept quiet as she continues to fold her clothes.
"It can't be helped. A lot of travelers visit here. He was probably one of them."
The young girl with her strawberry locks quickly sat up after hearing that, shaking her bed in the process.
"Don't tell me that! How am I supposed to find my Prince Charming now?"
She set aside another finished fold and looks up at the girl.
"Why not let him come to you? After all, he did appear out of thin air and spotted you."
The girl frowned at her friend's suggestion. Resting her head into the pillow again.
"...But I don't want to wait that long. What if I don't see him till next year or the year after that or even the next era?"
"There's nothing you can do about that. All you can do is wait. If he is your Prince Charming, he'll find you."
"But... What if I'm married by then?"
"Well then..."
"You should run away."
The young blonde quickly sat up again. Surprised by her older friend's response.
"Eh?! Are you serious?"
"Of course not."
The young maid began to laugh at the girl as she puffs her cheeks again. She gently pokes one of them as she continues.
"What matters most to me is that you're happy... but then again, you can't put your life on hold for some man you just met by chance."
The young girl stares down. Disappointment now covering her face. In a way she's right. She doesn't know this man at all. Not even his name. Yet... she gets the feeling that he's the one. She gives out a soft smile.
"... I won't give up. It has only been a day since I last saw him, so there's plenty of time to see him again!"
She was surprised by her words. She couldn't understand why she's so dedicated to finding this man. She hardly knows him. The young maid stands up and rests her body on the mattress. Now sitting next to her master.
"Tell me, why are you so fascinated by this man?"
She takes a moment to think about it. If she's being honest, she doesn't know the reason either. All she has is this strange feeling. But telling her friend that is a bit embarrassing. She already knows that she behaves like a child at times. If she were to say the truth then she'll think she's talking nonsense. Her mind thinks back to the man with golden eyes. She knows one thing about him at least. He's very handsome.
"...His eyes... they were a pretty color, like amber. And his pupils... they were white. I've never seen such eyes before, but I found them charming."
The young girl covers her face with her palms. Now blushing at the thought of him. She couldn't believe she said that out loud. It's true, but now she's embarrassed. Describing her love was foreign to her. She's never felt this way towards someone. Why was it easier to complain about a man than to compliment one to her friend? What will she think of her now? She carefully peeked through her fingers to see her reaction. She noticed a gentle smile stretch across her lips.
"I see..."
The maid stands up after a small pause. Her back now facing towards the girl. She took care of this child since she was little. It came as no surprise that she fell hard in love. Yet it worries her. The chances of her meeting this man again was slim to none. She doesn't want her heart to be broken. But there's nothing she can do to change her mind. She'll have to come to her senses and move on. The young lady with raven locks twirled around and met her gaze.
"It's getting late now. Why don't you rest for tonight?"
She quietly stares at her. Her long pause was stuck in her mind. What was she thinking about? Was her answer that strange? She looks away and nods to her suggestion. It doesn't matter... she should rest. When tomorrow comes, she can go look for him again.
