The past week had been draining. Every day as soon as classes stopped, he was running for the bus to catch it to head off campus, then straight to TLR and as soon as he was done there he normally caught the very last bus to the campus where nothing was running and he would have to walk all the way from the front main building down to his dorms. Anytime he wasn't there his phone was going off with reminders. He paused.
'My phone hasn't gone off yet, today… That's odd, very odd.'
Heart suddenly felt super uncomfortable staring at his phone, looking confused.
'He is normally reminding me of things all day, all night. It never ends. What is he doing? Did I do something? Am I fired, but I really need this job. Can someone fire someone without telling them. I don't think they can. Then that means he is angry with me. Should I go into work today, even though it is my day off? But then won't he keep me there doing some crazy long task until super late. Oh gosh, what do I do?'
I used my hand to push my head sideways and crack it; I stared at the phone wondering if it would sense my fear and ring.
High snickered "Those normally work better when you do something more than just stare at them."
"I thought you were going to sleep?" asked Tone as they set down their dishes onto the table, gesturing to Heart to move until he can sit.
"I haven't gotten a text!" exclaimed Heart rather dramatically. Looking up at his friends who had just gotten back.
"Well, we are right here so who else would text you?" Tone replied.
"But you guys know that by now he normally would have already messaged me a list of orders and demands he needs me to do for the day." Heart's voice cracked with slight panic.
"Maybe he is being nice for one day. You should be happy and eat your lunch while it's still semi cold." Tone smirked.
"Don't you mean, lukewarm?" High said.
"No, I mean semi cold. Lukewarm deserted us while he was lamenting over the Demon Lord boss growing a 'heart' today." Tone flashed Heart an evil smirk,
"Does this sound like someone who would be nice for one day?" Heart asked, then pulled out his three lists.
"Number eight, stay awake as long as it is necessary to complete any job. Any job I give you is more important than your sleep."
"Or here, number one it used to be Listen to everything I say, always, but then I threw away the lists thinking that it would be fine if I memorized most of it then recycled the papers. He reprinted it up with number one now saying, Obey, everything I say, always." Heart pointed at the word Obey, which was double underlined in bold and all capitals.
High and Tone snickered under their breaths.
"Are you the only one with a list?" High asked.
"No, I had been really upset at first, but Kit showed me that he had one too. He assured me that the lists get easier to manage as you work there longer. Kit said the lists were cute, an adorable side to Saint's personality." Heart shuddered, his face turning sour.
"But still it makes me feel like he is picking on me. Even Kit's list wasn't as bad as mine."
"Kit's been there longer, right?" Tone said.
"Yeah, personally I think there is something between them, some secret or something."
"Nah can't be.. He already has a princess, he is being extra mean too." Tone, intoned.
"Who?" Heart asked.
"You." High joked back, a twinkle in his eye.
"Shut up, you dick, he doesn't."
"Maybe after that moment in the bathroom when your eyes met, he is going to turn back into a prince instead of a demon as he found his 'Heart' again. You, his one true love, dressed in a princess-cut suit. Ahhh, it's too much it brings me to tears, that true… once in a lifetime head over heels I need you kinda love." Tone chimed in.
Heart tapped his fork on the top of Tone's head, looking annoyed.
"Shut up and eat your cold food. You trolls."
High chuckled, but dug into his food. Tone's rice fell from his fork and he shook out his head with a smile like a dog. Both of them smiled big while chewing their curry rice.
Heart, wished for the millionth time that he hadn't told his friends about what happened in the bathroom. They normally brought it up every few days. Like they couldn't pass up the chance to get it in there.
'That dang freaking suit. If I could afford to burn them, I would.' Heart snarled then took a viscous big bite out of his food. His anger caused him to break for a moment.
They talked loudly around him while they teased each other more. High about his lack of social skills and how he would never get a girlfriend this way and Tone about the new sophomore kid who would steal his crown as best looking this year.
Heart got up and threw their garbage away.
"We all have a free period, right? Do you guys wanna stay here and study? The sun feels nice in the shade." He asked them.
High smiled. "Sure, that sounds good."
"I'm okay with this, but are you sure you can actually get any work done here you lazy puppy." Tone teased.
Heart grinned back. "Sure, I have to keep my grades up somehow."
High smirked, "Pshh, you're the number one student at everything you do. Does the teacher even give you the same work as us though?"
"Of course. I've been in the same classes as you guys." Heart looked incredulous.
"I need to. You know with a low GPA, I can't keep my scholarship. Then I can't go here anymore. Min can't afford this place." Heart blushed ashamed to say.
But they both knew his situation. High and Tone nodded.
"We know it's just crazy to think how far we have all come the past year." Heart smiled.
"Yeah, it's been a crazy year. I am so glad I got to come here with you guys. I missed you before."
Tone chuckled.
"Well, heck, if you keep showing us up in classes, you're banned."
High chuckled in response, before Heart continued, "Besides, you guys are just as high up your numbers aren't bad either."
Tone smacked him lightly with his bag and they all started taking out their stuff from the last class.
"Why thank you Mr. Srisawat. That felt amazing." Heart said sarcastically.
"You're welcome, Mr. Chitphentom," Tone said.
"Did you finish the last few questions?" Heart asked, they both nodded.
Heart leaned forward and began working, glancing at the phone beside his papers every now and again with worry creasing his face.
'This just isn't like Saint.' His stomach turned the curry inside it to this unsavory sloshing feeling.
'Just ignore it. Nothing good can come from fretting.' He put his head down and got deep into his work.
"Did you get a B for number fourteen?" Tone asked.
High nodded. "Yes, what about question thirty-two?"
Tone grimaced. "I didn't answer it yet."
"Here, let me help." Heart stood.
A hand slapped down on their open mess on the table.
All three of them looked at the large hand holding onto their work, and then up past the arm and into the face, it belonged to….
Heart blanched.
Standing in front of him looking absolutely stunning and completely different from when he was at work. His hair fluffy and free bouncing in the light breeze. His crisp white shirt, an open blue shirt with his major in the left-hand corner. Heart gulped, noticing the major differed from theirs. Rippled softly and his long legs made the school's standard black trousers look as if they were an expensive suit. His tie was hanging around his neck undone and the top two buttons were unbuttoned. The sun glistened gently on his collarbone. The shirt sleeves rolled up to his elbows.
"Mind if I join you?" That warm honey tone that both somehow excited and terrified Heart said.
Saint smiled the most startling smile he had ever done.
Heart's gulped and his heart skipped as if it were going to break free of his chest.
'I am so screwed!'
