“The stars are beautiful tonight,” Haruka said softly, leaning against the tree as Hades peered through his telescope.
Hades looked up, grinning broadly. “They’re better if you see them up close,” he said, offering Haruka the telescope.
Haruka shook his head; he was more interested in watching the happiness in Hades’s eyes than the starts. Hades shrugged, and turned back to his telescope- until Haruka gasped. “Look, a shooting star!” the pinkette said excitedly, pointing to the beautiful star blazing across the sky.
“Oh, it’s so pretty,” Hades sighed, captivated.
“You know, you’re supposed to make a wish when you see a shooting star,” Haruka said, standing up and walking to where Hades stood.
Hades turned to face the boy he loved. “You saw it first, I believe the wish is yours.”
“Why don’t we make the wish together?” Haruka suggested instead.
Hades laughed softly; his Haruka, always trying to give things up to make others happy. He took Haruka’s hands in his, and smiled at him. “Alright, together then.”
They both closed their eyes, hands clasped, and they made their wish. And they both wished for the same thing; that the other would always be happy. It was enough that the universe took favor on them.
“Wha…” Haruka’s face snapped up as he felt something wet drip onto his face.
Hades pulled away, Haruka’s hands still folded between his, looking confused. “What?”
“I swear I just felt something- oh!” he yelped, jumping as something chilly and wet splashed onto his nose, making it wrinkle.
And Hades started to laugh. He always loved that expression, Haruka’s eyes squinched shut and his nose crinkled up; it was the cutest thing he’d ever seen. His laughter stopped abruptly when he finally understood why Haruka was so confused when a fat, wet drop splashed on their connected hands.
“Oh… it’s… raining,” Hades said slowly, tipping his head up to look at the sky. He had noticed the clouds earlier, but he hadn’t thought it would rain. He hadn’t been in the rain since Haruka took on half the burden of his misfortune. And… it worried him, that maybe Haruka had taken too much, and the burden had shifted.
He looked down at Haruka, concerned- and his worry vanished in a second. Haruka was looking up at the sky, a soft smile on his face. “I remember when the rain used to be a curse,” he said softly, his expression growing peaceful as the rain began to fall heavier, a light sprinkle that misted both of them.
“It seems so much prettier… even though it’s not any different,” Hades found the corners of his mouth turning up as he looked up at the dove grey clouds that covered the sky. The rain wetted his face, but it didn’t matter; not with Haruka laughing softly, pulling away to twirl with his arms out, laughing louder when it made him dizzy.
“Its so pretty when it rains! Don’t just stand there like a spoilsport. Have some fun with me!” Haruka came back over, and it was he who clasped Hades’s hands that time, looking up with pleading eyes.
Hades had to laugh at him. “How could I resist you when you make that face?” he teased, leaning forward to kiss Haruka’s nose before pulling away with a teasing smile.
“You’re in for it now!” Haruka exclaimed with a mischeivous expression.
Hades took a step backward, hands up- and Haruka leapt at him. They tumbled to the wet grass, Hades carefully pillowing Haruka against his body even though it was the pinkette who shoved them down. They both ended up laughing, Haruka’s forehead resting against his lover's as he giggled.
“The rain isn’t all bad anymore, is it?” he asked, grinning widely, his hands planted on Hades’s chest as he straddled the god.
Hades let his head fall back against the ground, his eyes closing as he felt the rain on his face. The touch of the rain stopped, and he didn’t have to open his eyes to meet Haruka halfway, sharing another sweet kiss. “No, it’s not all bad,” he said, cupping Haruka’s face, his open, genuinely happy smile something that was once rare.
The smile changed in a heartbeat, and Haruka found his back against the grass, Hades hovering above him with a wicked smirk. “Maybe the rain can be a good thing, from now on,” Hades suggested.
Haruka didn’t have a chance to answer, because Hades kissed him, a kiss that quickly grew into something hot enough that the rain couldn’t chill it away. He didn’t get to answer until almost an hour later, when they were lying next to each other with the rain slicking sweat from their bodies. He kissed Hades’s bare shoulder, earning a tender smile, and said, “Definitely a good thing,” before resting his head on Hades’s chest to enjoy the rest of the rain.
