Saren made his decision in choosing the Dark Magic Knight line. All he needs now is to give Shoku staff to meet the requirements. There were a couple of skeletons who had actual leather armor and swords. Saren picks up the better of the two swords dropped, gave it to Shoku, and the leather armor would be too big for either to wear.
(So for right now we will have to hold off on starting his evolution. We should make our way to the first layer maybe look for a chest for a staff.)
They started up the stairs and once the reached about halfway up Saren heard something almost like someone talking.
He raced up the stairs getting close to the top of the stairs. He was right humans we're talking to each other. Were they more adventurers? Or maybe from the same group as the Viking.
Soldier 1: "... And maybe once we concur this next layer of the dungeon they'll switch us out for the next batch of men, so we can go home for a little while.
I'm so sick of patrolling a layer we already concurred. The monsters never leave their layers and we have the entrance gated with men at the door."
Soldier 2: "That's some good daydreaming rookie, we will be here till we die or get too injured to fight. The King of the Diamond kingdoms is a puppet and does nothing for his people including us. We're just here for monster cores and treasure."
The two soldiers' voices started to fade as they turned back to finish there patrol round. Saren went to see if there was still any chest unopened in the Rat kings throne room.
The King of this layer was just a fat rat with a fancy jeweled gold crown and a red cape. He controlled the hoards of rats with his crown. Since he was just a first layer monster King, the humans easily killed them all off within a month.
Saren searched every single space that would hide or hold a chest. Nothing turned up.
So Saren told Shoku to stay out of sight at the second layer's entrance. Shoku still doesn't have the mental ability to respond yet so he just stood in place. Saren then starts heading towards the humans seeing if he can find any chests that they picked up from this first layer. He could also see in the distance for the first time real sunlight.
As Saren got closer he realized he would have to kill the soldiers if they tried attacking him. Which gave him an upset mind. If possible he tries paralyzing the soldiers to take there loot. He doesn't like killing other humans, but they would never take the time to figure out the situation
He's getting closer to the point where he can see a small tent base camp set up in the layer. Maneuvering around parts of the rocky maze-like most layers had, he quietly sneaked up to the tent and took a peek under the tent to see a fat man with a small crown on his head, pig nose, and a light brown hair bowl-cut. Born into nobility and next to him was a rugged, skilled and experienced bodyguard. He had long curly long hair with a black eye patch over his left eye. He just stood there not moving like he was ready to attack at any moment.
They never said his name.
Then the captain of the soldiers came into the tent to discuss the situation of the first layer.
Captain Soyer: " My lordship, it seems my men have combed the entire layer we are awaiting your command to start subjugation of the second layer sire."
Duke Nevil: "Fiiiinnnalllyy... I thought you idiots would never get done. How long till we concur the next layer captain?"
Captain: "Up to two months depending on the situation. I can send my fastest rogues to survey the layer without fail to get a better time frame for you sire."
Duke Nevil: "Very well Soyer, do what you must and get out of my hair. Also, have your people bring me more food. I've grown hungry again."
Captain Soyer: "Right away sir."
The captain leaves the tent with an unhappy face. The food that the duke wanted was digging into the rations for his men. It made him so mad, but he couldn't do anything. He had direct orders from the King to take care of this duke while he supervised his men and clear out this newly discovered dungeon.
After the captain left, the bodyguard looked towards Saren like he knew he was there the whole time. Saren then jumped back and started running as fast as possible back to shoku. They were going to find him really soon. Saren started to panic and worry.
( That bodyguard is one scary dude... He's definitely stronger than me. I would definitely lose to him 1v1. Another good reason to have shoku make it out of here with me alive.)
As he was running he trips over a bulky old wooden box. He realizes it's where the chest we're stored. Quickly searching through the 3 in front of him he found a basic mage staff. He didn't have time to look at everything else.
He almost reaches stairs when he sees two men running down the steps and make a noise of from and fear from what they found. They quickly retreated sounding an alarm with a horn. Saren took out his spear before they could get an accurate location for an intruder or monster. Killing them was an easy task since they didn't have a strong defense and light armor. He hates this moment in his new life as a monster.
While cutting down the soldiers they had to kill or paralyzed by magic to make it past them. Picking up any void bags they could get a hold of. There were only 2 more in the entire group. All soldiers are frantically running around. Saren and Shoku somehow make it past the rest of the soldiers. It seemed almost too easy to get past that bodyguard. Since it seemed that he could sense Saren.
As the tunnel was getting shorter sarens face become a big excited grin.
While all the humans were inside for backup finding the intruder or monsters. Saren took Shoku out to the woods nearby.
They found a mostly collapsed stone house with barely any space but it was enough for them. They had a fire under where the roof used to be for Saren to stay warm. Saren also used that old cloth and poorly made some cloaks for there journey. All there was left to was survive in this small woods till Shokus evolution finish.
3 days later...
Saren woke up to see a whole new Shoku. There were physical alterations from his evolution. He had to do a double-take from not believing his eyes.
