Chapter 2: Their Destinies Entwine
As the whole city of Saphine felt the great tremor many of its citizens were running frantically looking for cover. As for the customers at Dulce’s Café some people were trying to duck and cover under the small round table, other tried to make a run for the door to run into the open street. For a split second the shaking stopped, then everyone made a run for the door.
“Stop pushing, one at a time!” Screamed Teresa. She was making her way to the door when she saw a young girl was pushed to the ground. “Here let me help you up!”
“Thank you!”
“What’s your name? I’m Teresa.” Teresa asked and she grabbed the small girl by the arm and held her tightly trying to shield her from all the customers trying to escape the small café.
“Misty. My name is Misty.”
“Misty I will get you out, were you here with someone? Your parents-”
“I was with my friends, but they all ran out the minute the earthquake started.”
“Gotcha! Don’t worry I won’t let anything happen to you!” She didn’t know why but something within her was telling her to keep the girl safe. The two girls finally were able to exist the café and view the many people running frantically, many were existing their cars and running in case of an aftershock. Teresa grabbed Misty by her hand darted towards where the nature park was at. There no tall building there so it could be the safest place, she thought. Teresa stopped all of a sudden, when she heard a family voice calling out for someone, Teresa looked around and found the girl she had just met at the back at the café, she turned to Misty and said “Listen, you need to stay here for me, I will be back I promise, that girl over there may need my help.” The little girl only nodded her head. Slowly their hands let go and Teresa ran towards the golden-brown hair girl. She was still calling out a name when an after shocked happen. Teresa lost balance and fell to the ground, it soon passed and that’s when she saw that a street lamp post was slowly falling over, straight above the girl.
“Watch out!” Teresa called. She darted towards the girl, leaped at her and push her to the ground away from the pole. They landed hard the pavement scraping their sides. “Are you ok?”
“You’re the waitress girl.”
She smiled, “Teresa.”
“I’m Ashley… and thank you for saving my life.”
“No problem-”
“Teresa!” The two girls looked up as Misty ran up to them. “Are you okay?! I saw the pole and thought you got hurt.”
“We’re okay, Misty meet Ashley.” They exchange greetings. Teresa stood with Ashley following behind her and told them that the safest place was the park down two more blocks. The two girls nodded and ran behind her. They kept running went there another slight tremor, this one was minor which allowed them to continue keep running, Misty looked behind her and saw something huge tunneling beneath the hard concrete as it cracked the surface.
“There’s something behind us!” she screamed.
“What?!” cried Ashley as she and Teresa turned their heads, the minute they did a huge worm like creature shot from the ground diving towards Misty. Teresa and Ashley leap and pushed Misty away, the creature missed it target and burrowed once more into the ground. “What was that?!” Ashley cried.
“I don’t know but we need to move, now!” Teresa shouted, “this way!” They ran towards an alley between two buildings hoping to leave behind whatever creature they just had encountered. Teresa saw the end of the alley, they were halfway through when the worm-like creature jumped out in front of them, they halted, as two more worms appeared behind them, trapping them. Each girl faced one of the creatures, there’s wasn’t anyway they would be able to escape. The creatures were clearly a type of worm, but these had teeth oozing with saliva, they were about nine feet tall, maybe even longer since the rest of their bodies was still underground.
“What do we do?” Ashley asked.
“I am not sure.” Teresa answered.
All of a sudden, the worms made a terrifying growl and lunged forward to three girls, not being able to do anything Teresa grabbed Ashley and Misty and hugged them tightly hoping she could shield them. They all embraced each other tightly closing their eyes and hoping this nightmare would end.
Out of nowhere they heard a man shout, “Protect your Mistresses!” The three girls opened their eyes and saw three tall sticks were floating in front of them emitting some sort of shield that the worms couldn’t break through. The loosen their hold on each other to examined the three sticks that surrounded them. “You three!” The same man shouted. The girls turn to look at him through the shield, he looked somewhere around his early twenties, short brown hair sleeked back with gel, he was wearing a white t-shirt, with dark blue jeans, and a leather black jacket. “Grabbed the scepter in front of you and use it to fight those monsters!”
“Is he crazy?!” Ashley shouted.
Misty was the first to grab the scepter in front of her, the handle was a light golden brown with light blue swirls engraving it, at the top it had a clear light blue sphere, over it two blue curved over the sphere almost like waves, what marvel her even more was the figure eight with flowing water. The minute her second hand grabbed it there was a brilliant light that engulfed her. When the light subsided, both Ashley and Teresa gasped, Misty looked down at herself, clothes she had had disappeared and in their place were new clothes, she was wearing now a s light blue long sleeved bloused, near the collarbone of the blouse was swirls identical to scepter she held. The blouse was tucked in on sapphire blue tights, which had fish-like scales engraved in holographic color. As for her hair it changed from light brown-almost blonde hair to a deep ocean blue, wavy as the ocean’s waves.
Ashley was next to grab the scepter in front of her, as Misty a light engulfed her revealing her with long vibrant red hair with golden locks in between, it almost looked like her hair was on fire, her attire on the other hand, was more revealing than Misty’s. Her bosom was covered and had flame like designs decorating. A clear like mini skirt sprouting out of the top of her shorts that were a little above her knees, to hold everything in place, fire like designs were attached to both her bra-like top and her short. The attire was all a color was a red orange glow.
Finally, Teresa grab the scepter in front of her and the same happened to her, her hair turned into a dark forest green, longer passing her waist. As for her attire it was similar to Ashley’s, the outfit was a dark green with bright green patches on her bosom and shorts. To hold it in place vine like designs wrapped all around her body, some were even wrapped around her arms.
Using the scepters, the girls each screamed a battle cry not knowing where their unfound courage had come from but happy to find a way to defeat the giant worms in front of them. The worms were getting banged and hit with the scepters and retreated back into the ground. The girls burst cheering for their small victory. They hugged each other and giggled and admired their new attire everyone except Teresa who still did not approve.
The man who had shouted at them was sighing a sigh of relief, for the Ladies of Earth, Fire, and Water had returned.
