It wasn't that I was necessarily worried about Robin. It's not like I failed my biology test because I was worried about him, no, I always fail my biology test. Besides the point. The point is that I was distracted, I mean I saw a squirrel, was I supposed to not look at it? Again, off topic.
I physically slapped my head and sighed. I'm going to have a big bruise by this afternoon, I've been hitting myself all day.
"Chase, is there a reason you just slapped yourself in the face?"
"Well you see, Ms. Harlan, I had a bug on my forehead. I figured, hey why not slap it to get rid of it. But it didn't work quite well, so it's probably still in this room." The class snickered.
"Well, Mr. Stone, please refrain from hitting yourself." Ms. Harlan rolled her eyes and then began to teach about Europe or something.
I softly tapped my foot on the floor and watched while Ms. Harlan attempted to pull down the map, she's quite short so it was a struggle. A kid from the front of the class, Jayden (I think), had to pull down the string. That's one thing you can always expect in this class.
"Hey, Sammy, have you heard about Robin?" My ears perked up like a dog when his name was called. Luckily, the girls sat right behind me so it wasn't hard to here.
"No, what happened?" I was ready for all the gossip.
"Apparently, he beat up a kid after school and got suspended, the poor boy was messed up...he will never look the same again." I found that hard to believe.
"Mr. Stone?" I had to pull away from my thoughts and direct my attention to Ms. Harlan. She didn't like me, at all. "What did I just say?"
"Europe is a very big...country?"
"Hate to break it to you, but Europe is not a country. You need to start paying attention. Mid-terms are coming up and I don't need you failing." I laughed because, yeah, I was going to fail.
"Yes ma'am, all my attention is on you." I squinted my eyes and stared at her. Again, she rolled her eyes and began to talk about Flemish, French, Brussels, and something about being split into a bilingual thing. So when she asked me what she said again I answered with that. Ms. Harlan was very proud of me, good to know.
While my attention got lost, she didn't call on me again. The bell rang and I sighed because I wasn't looking forward to anything in English.
"Well, you seem better, Chase." My brother mentioned when we sat down at lunch.
"Minus the fact that I failed my biology test and will most likely fail my mid-terms in geography, yeah I'm doing dandy." Jake and Jack snickered because they are so dang smart. They have the grades I only see in my dreams. "Don't laugh you brats." I munched furiously on my fries and sighed.
"Chase!" With the sudden yell of my brother, the fry that was working its way in my mouth landed in my hair. How that happened, I don't know. "Have you seen the new girl?" Now I haven't mentioned this before, but my brother is girl crazy. Ever since he could walk, he had been in love with girls. Why? I'm not sure.
"Uh, no." I looked around the cafeteria for a girl that seemed strikingly new, but I hardly pay attention to the students that were already in my school.
"She is gorgeous. Stunning. A goddess if you will." Again, I searched the room for anyone remotely like that. I didn't find anyone.
"Where?" I was so bespazzled (okay guess I'm making up words now) on where this girl was.
"She is over there, black jeans, a big fluffy sweater, long brown hair, the apple to my eye."
"Uh," I eventually found her. Exactly how he described her. She was indeed beautiful, wouldn't call her a goddess, but was beautiful. "Found her."
"So far, I have three classes with her." My brother was dumbstruck by her.
Jace, despite being a girl lover, had only had two girlfriends. One in seventh grade and one in freshmen year. Seventh-grade girl, Sally, didn't last long, she moved to Alabama and was never to be seen again. But freshmen girl Delilah lasted for three whole years. It was honestly amazing. She was beautiful in every way and they were very in love. To be honest, I'm not sure why they broke up. One day, Jace was in his room and just yelled for no reason. I came in to ask if he was okay and that's when he told me they broke up. He didn't want to talk about it so I never asked.
"Well, I hope you guys get married, have four kids, two dogs, a cat, and a beautiful house."
"She hasn't noticed me yet, I doubt we'll be friends. I doubt we would ever talk." Jace did a dramatic sigh then continued to spoon feed himself.
"Don't get depressed about it, there will be other pickles in the pickle jar."
"Uh huh. Speaking of which, I haven't seen your pal all day."
"How did pickles remind you of Robin?" I was at a loss, because seriously, how? My brother didn't answer. Jace even speaking about Robin made him sour (Ha, you know. Pickles, sour. Are pickles even sour? I don't know). Why he brought it up, I'm not sure.
"Jace, haven't you heard?" Jake (maybe Jack) said. "He got suspended. Apparently, he had a fight with Daniel Michelson. He got hurt pretty badly, he's not here today either." The other twin nodded in agreement.
"What was that Chase? Robin is a good guy? Why don't you explain that to me?" I growled at him.
"Sorry I don't know everything he does at any given time. That might not be true, who knows!" Jack then pulled out his phone and showed me a picture of Daniel Michelson. The poor boy was beaten to a pulp. Two swollen eyes, a busted lip, scratches from his face, a tooth missing. Wow, he really did him dirty.
"Can you explain that?" I glared at my brother while he taunted me.
"He must have a perfectly good reason for beating this kid up. Plus, the kids an asshole maybe he deserved it."
"Chase, I don't think anyone deserves to be hurt this bad?" Jace smirked.
"How about murder? A rapist? Kidnapper? Child predator? The KKK?"
"Okay, well maybe that's fine. But Daniel? I don't think so." I growled once again at Jace. He really loves to push my buttons.
"Oh hush." While the coast was clear, I managed to sneak in a text to Robin.
Chase: Did you really get suspended?
He didn't answer.
"How long is he suspended for?" I ask in pure curiosity. I didn't ask it to tick my brother off, even though it did.
"Not sure. Two, three days, maybe a week. Don't know." I sighed because whichever twin this was wasn't being helpful and Robin still hadn't answered me.
"Means I don't have to see his face for a while." My brother snickered.
"Haha, very funny." I was being sarcastic but my brother decided to shoot me with yeah I know I'm funny. "You're a nuisance." I stood up to go to the bathroom. Which kind of made it look like I just lost the argument I had with my brother.
While muttering complete nonsense— I ran into someone. That "goddess" my brother was talking about. She was a head shorter than me; I blame her height as the reason for bumping into her.
"Ah shit. Sorry. Didn't see you there." Now, this girl is one that would boys fall head over heels for. I'm not going to chase after a girl that my brothers into. I stick to the twin rule.
"Most people don't." Hah, get it. Because she's short. Hilarious.
"Well, partially my fault for not paying attention."
"Do I have any classes with you? I swear I've seen you before...but in different clothes." I laughed because, boy, was that funny.
"No, must be my twin. Jace. What a catch he is, even though I'm mad at him." I mumbled that last part. "But anyways, how's school treating you?" Yes, let's forget that I have to desperately pee.
"Ah, pretty good! Everyone is really nice to me. But I keep hearing about this boy, name starts with an R. Apparently he is bad news and I shouldn't be involved with him." I laughed because yup, that's Robin she's talking about.
"Don't worry about him, he's not bad." Her eyes glowed and her cheeks became red. Did I say something weird?
"That's cute." I furrowed my brows in confusion. "I'm Serenity, by the way."
"Chase, pleasure to meet you. Now I would love to chat but I gotta pee." What a very lovely thing to tell a girl. She thought it was funny. I said bye to Serenity and then dashed to the bathroom.
Robin: Yeah. I did.
