Chase: Do you want to meet again at night?
Robin: I haven't left.
I raised my eyebrows at his text. So basically, what I'm getting out of this conversation is that Robin Freaking Ryder spent about twenty hours at the park.
Chase: But I saw you walk away. You were no where to be found.
Robin: Sorry, I was hiding in a bush.
I couldn't tell if Robin was being serious. I was completely...bewildered.
Chase: So you're telling me you spent 20 hours at the park. He didn't answer me.
Chase: Is that a yes or a no?
Robin: All up to you, Ace.
I'm a indecisive person so I just pondered for a minute. I ended up using a website that decided for me. It said yes.
I escaped my house for third time this week. It's a mystery on how I managed to do that for three days straight.
"Hey." This time I wasn't going to fall for his scare trap. Robin looked extremely tired; the poor kid probably never got any sleep. It's been 24 hours so I wouldn't be surprised.
"I talked to an old woman today. She was very nice. Her grandson wanted to go to the park, so she brought him. His name is Guy. Her name is Britney." I'm not sure why he was telling me this but I continued to listen. "I always heard that old people give you the best words of wisdom. Now I truly understand that. Ace, do you want to know what she told me?" I nodded while sitting next to him on a bench by the swings. "She told me a few things. First thing is eat when your hungry. Which seemed silly but I'm sure there must be a story behind it. The second thing is to seek help when you need it. The final thing is don't care what others think. Because if you do, you'll start to think it's true. It's all about what you feel. Ace, do you want to know what's funny about all that?"
"What is?"
"It's kind of like...she saw through me. I have never met this lady before in my life and she has seemed to figure me out in the ten minutes I sat with her. Well, minus the first one because I do eat. I definitely eat when I'm hungry." I think he was expecting me to laugh so I did.
"You look like a mess." I had the urge to run my hands through his thick black hair. Instead, I did so to my own, the next best thing. "I think you should sleep. In a bed. At your house. In your room." He smiled.
"Doesn't sound half bad." The small smile that was placed on his lips had fallen to a somber state.
"What happened...with Daniel? A lot of people are talking about that." Then something crazy happened. Robin Freaking Ryder placed his head on my shoulder. Again, no one has ever taught me how to react in a situation like this. Yet his head was gently placed on my shoulder and his hair lightly tickled my neck.
"He's an asshole. A big giant asshole." Robin yawned only making me yawn, then we had a good laugh at that.
"I already knew that. But I mean... why?" He laughed a little.
"There are some things you just don't joke about." He was in deep thought. I figured he was thinking whether or not to tell me. It wasn't like I was going to force him to tell me. I mean, yeah, I would like if he told me. But I'm not going to force him. "And he really did push my buttons. Funny thing is, I could have walked away. I could have left it alone...man up and just let it be. But you know what? I didn't. Chase," Robin sat up and stared at me with his big, azure eyes. The look of distress was clearly displayed on his face. "Why didn't I man up? Why didn't I leave it be? Why did I have to go and beat the kid up?" Robin was expecting an answer from me but I had none. I couldn't go back in time, be there, and stop him from doing that. I didn't know what happened, so I didn't know what to answer with.
"I'm not sure." I saw how Robin's bottom lip stuck out and how his eyes were so sad. He was in complete distress about this situation. And this is why Robin isn't a bad person. The fact that he felt guilt because of it shows exactly my point. Yet, Jace isn't here to see this. He will never know the fact about it. He's blinded by his emotions to the point that he would never know.
"I fucked up. I really did. I got suspended. I didn't go home. I ruined a kid's face. Now everyone thinks—" Robin stopped his sentence and smiled. "Never mind."
"Well," I wasn't sure on what to tell him. I felt like I needed to give wisdom but I couldn't. "Now he won't mess with you?" It meant to come out as a response but it ended up being a question.
"Yeah, that's true. But in a bad way. I would rather him not mess with me because I'm his friend but lord knows that won't happen."
"Why is everyone afraid of you?" Robin took the time to laugh a big laugh. A whole LOL.
"Maybe it's because of my face, or big appearance, the vibe I send out, maybe it's because of the dragon-eating-a-snake tattoo that's on my back."
"You have...a tattoo?" I dont know why I was so shocked by this.
"No, I don't. Stupid." He laughed making me pout. "If I did, I wouldn't get that. That's weird."
"You know, someone around the world has that tattoo, you probably just offended them."
"I highly doubt it." We looked in each other's eyes and laughed. Despite his beautiful laugh...he was still run down.
"When are you coming back to school?" He smiled and laughed. I don't know why he was laughing...I didn't say anything funny.
"I was lucky and they didn't give me too long, so Wednesday. It's going to be a mess, make up work, being behind in class, everyone scared shitless of me. Can't wait." He spoke with sarcasm in his voice.
"You'll be fine."
