Note: Apologies for the short chapter! I promise they'll get back to their usual size as the book goes on! ^^
I let out a sigh as I saw Ryzel with that all too familiar grin on his face. The type that was playful, mischievous and flirtatious all at the same darn time.
Each time he appeared at my door...it was either to get something from me, ask to sleep in my house or to try and convince me to sleep with him! I can admit it to myself...after all, what I did in my free time was my business! I had slept around here and there a little over these past few years, all it took was one drunken mistake in another village and it was downhill after that. The action...it was nice, not in the pursuit of romance or anything but it was nice.
“Don’t say it like that! You’ll make me think that you hate me.” Ryzel snorted before he slithered his way past me and made a beeline towards my couch before promptly falling onto it.
“I hate how you worm your way into my house, friends or not!” I said, not being able to resist a small chuckle as I closed the door.
“What do you want anyway Ryzel? I know you didn’t come just to sleep on my couch.”
“Hm...what if I said that I came to take you as my mate? It is true what they say y’know? That my kind tend to become impatient after a while.” My cheeks reddened a little; I heard the rumors but I knew he didn’t have the guts for it. Besides, even if he did, we were simply friends.
“We’re just friends Ryzel.” I sighed.
“Oh, come on! I’ve seen you sneak a few men in here before. What’s so bad about committing to me?” He laughed.
“I don't need to explain myself to a guy whose kind is literally known for sleeping around,” I stated curtly, sending him a small glare to get the point across before I went upstairs. Ryzel, however, was quick to follow me.
“False rumors, we merely...heavily seduce but one day it will happen. Love tends to strike one unexpectedly hm?” He continued.
I rolled my eyes if I was able to die and be reincarnated into the world of my teenage dreams then hey! Maybe it could happen!
Of course, I was determined to make sure there would be no room for the virus to even begin to taking hold.
“All I need is for you to reciprocate my feelings!”
“I’ll never reciprocate them Ryzel, it’s been that way for 3 years now.” I sighed before I finally reached my room, Ryzel quickly deciding to fall onto my bed while I grabbed things I would need for this new adventure of mine.
“What are you doing?”
“Packing, I’m going to the Desert Continent,” I answered as I sifted through my closet.
I was tempted to bring dresses with me but I also knew it wouldn’t exactly be the best move. It was the desert, after all, it was blazing hot! Then again, it’s not like I had anything else besides my armor.
“The Desert Continent?” Ryzel gasped, his voice turning serious.
“Why in The One’s name would you go there? That continent is dangerous! If you’re forgetting the fact that Paladins and Beast Daemoniums are all over the place. There’s constant fighting going on between them!”
“I’ve dealt with both before, dealing with a few more isn’t much.” I snickered.
“You’re not getting it my beauty...the Paladins and Daemoniums have been at war with each other for decades now, the mere mention of one other sets them off! To go to the land where tensions are the thickest? It’s suicide!”
“I’ve died once before, trust me, I’m not too afraid of death Ryzel.”
“At least reconsider-”
“I can’t reconsider.” I quickly interrupted with a huff, placing a book about Daemoniums alongside a few more articles of clothing into my bag before I closed it up.
“You do realize I’m a champion right? When the Guardians don’t want to do something, they basically hit me up asking if I want to potentially kill myself without giving me the option of declining.” I sighed.
The room went quiet, a part of me felt bad about being so serious with the guy...after all, it wasn’t exactly in my blood to be serious all the time. I was usually seen as the one who was either being reckless and getting into trouble, people usually had to be serious with me!
Never the other way around but, things change, especially over a matter of years. After all, it’s not like I’m in the happiest mood all the time when I remember that I should be in college living my life up to the fullest...not stuck being the boss to everything and everyone. Too many times it got absolutely tiring and frustrating. Luckily, however, Ryzel fixed my mood a little as he suddenly grinned.
“How I adore that side of you my beauty, a woman who’s brave and responsible!” He chuckled before he got up and stretched a little.
“However, that still won’t make me cease in warning you about the dangers. The Desert Continent is dangerous, not only do my own kind make it so but...there’s also rumors that the one who decided to start this whole war on my kind resides there.”
I narrowed my eyes a little, a snort escaping me at the thought of meeting the one who decided to start a war.
Sure! I was there to greet the new champion and possibly scare him a little but that didn’t mean I couldn’t have a few words with the one who decided to be the murderer of possible millions.
“Not to mention, the Beast Daemoniums will deem any mortal as a threat. I suggest you keep to your animal form Eos or...I could always-”
“You can come with,” I said with a smile, his face brightening up before he suddenly enveloped me into a hug.
“Oh, thank The One! I swear you won’t regret it Eos! I’ll make sure you’re safe and sound by my side!” Ryzel laughed as he spun me around, my cheeks beginning to burn before I tried to push myself away from him.
“Let me go damn it! I’m only taking you because I need people to go with me anyway!” I yelled before Ryzel slowly stopped spinning, the action making me let out a small huff of relief as I finally pushed myself out of his grasp.
“Oh? And who else do you plan on bringing with you hm?”
“Only two people, after all, I need people here to stay back and watch the village after all. You’re going and most likely Ares is as well.” I said, a snicker immediately leaving me at Ryzel’s smile falling a little.
Exactly the reason why I needed that aging centaur to come with, he was the only thing that made sure the line drawn between me and Ryel stayed perfectly clear! Not to mention...I didn’t exactly know what was to be expected in the desert. If anyone knew, it was him.
“That centaur is always getting in my way; can’t you bring someone else Eos?” He complained before I started to escort him downstairs, a scoff leaving me at his suggestion.
“That’s like asking me to willingly allow a lion into my living room. Hell no! You pounce on anything that moves.” I grumbled before we arrived at the door, causing me to quickly open the door for him while he simply looked at me.
I raised a brow, my cheeks beginning to burn a little as I forced myself to look into his eyes. Though I hated all his advances and flirtations with a passion, I would never fail to admit that he was handsome. Those amber-colored eyes that reminded me of honey...they could sweep almost anyone off their feet.
“You’ll be going to the celebration, tonight right?” He suddenly asked, snapping me out of my momentary mind-wandering. I nodded, a grin crossing my features.
“Of course, you know that I absolutely love going to parties and celebrations! I almost have a mind to call it a mini birthday present for me.” I joked.
“Hm...since we Daemoniums helped the goblins conquer the lands in the east, we will be performing a special dance! I suggest you come early so you don’t miss it.” He said before he finally walked off, causing me to quickly close the door while thoughts ran through my head.
More packing for the journey to the Desert Continent, reading up more about the traditions and customs of these Beast Daemoniums, making sure the village had someone trustworthy to look after them for a while and even thoughts of how to properly tell the village that I was going to a Continent riddled with war! For the first time, a celebration was becoming more of an event where I would announce my plans! The only difference was that it included cake! No matter, I had a job to do and I needed to do it well until the very end, besides...a country riddled with war? It couldn’t have been too bad, after all, from what it seemed like, people were still capable of living there.
‘Easier to say when you don’t exactly have anything to give you an exact preview though...’ I thought with a small huff, Deimosa coming towards me with a curious but worried purr while I simply chuckled and gave her a pat on the head.
“I’ll be gone soon Deimosa, for a pretty long while it seems. Make sure you don’t mess up the house too much eh?” I said to her before I started to make my way upstairs.
Exactly what was the correct thing to wear to an event where you were about to tell a village that acted more like a family that you were about to go to a place where it’s war-torn and could potentially be your last destination?! Absolutely nothing...but, no matter, there were a few dresses that I had bought and had managed to have custom made! If anything, I was going to wear something that would at least help ease my nerves a little.
