After a few hours had passed, the once clear blue sky that was dotted with colorful four-winged birds and fluffy clouds now replaced with a sky that was black and filled with colorful cosmos and galaxies galore. It didn’t take long for the sound of drumming and people beginning to chatter and cheer to stir me from lazing around in my bed.
“Hair up? Hair down...” I mumbled to myself as I looked in a mirror, quickly looking around the place to see if I could add a decorative hairpiece.
I quickly spotted something just as I decided to wear my hair up into a high ponytail. A small golden ribbon that would be perfect to keep my hair up! As well as give some sort of flavor to my outfit!
“Goodness...I wonder if I would’ve gone insane just from prettying myself up all the time in my old world.” I chuckled to myself after I put on the bow and the rest of my clothes.
Whether I was bragging or not, I looked amazing! I almost had a mind to say that I looked like an Empress! From an emerald-colored gown that allowed one of my legs to stick out and was laced with gold around the chest area and around the other ends of the dress, a pair of earrings that held sapphires and shined brilliantly, a pair of brown sandals that wrapped around my legs before ending suddenly at my thigh and a necklace with a white feather at the end of it! If only there was such thing as a prom in this world...I would’ve worn it a few years back.
‘You look radiant, a true leader of this growing city.’ Ibis suddenly spoke, a chuckle escaping me as I walked downstairs.
“Thank you.” I grinned.
‘Are you trying to impress that Bachelor Incubus? If so, I suppose I should consider not bothering you later tonight, yes?’
My cheeks immediately caught on fire, what in the world?! When did this owl suddenly get on the bandwagon to teasing me about Ryzel?!
“When did you get on the bandwagon to tease me about him?! We’re not even together!” I huffed as I walked around the house to search for Deimosa.
I refused to leave her alone in my house for an entire evening, I made that mistake once and...it was more than unpleasant.
Ibis let out a scoff. ‘I never tease nor partake in the pleasure of entertaining the idea of something that will never happen.’ She said.
‘The Incubus grows agitated and weary; I merely say what I say in...an effort to warn you I suppose?’
My eyes narrowed a little, though I knew how much of a flirt Ryzel was, that didn’t mean he was capable of even attempting the action of trying to force anything. No, Ibis was just being a worrywart and trying to scare me.
“You make it sound as if he’s a hyena just waiting to striker.” I scoffed, Ibis scoffing herself before I finally found Deimosa.
There she was, hiding underneath a table, if someone had told me dragons were like cats then I would’ve refrained from getting one!
After all, I was pretty tired of tripping over her tail out of the blue! ‘I am not trying to insinuate anything my champion, merely making you think about a few things.’ Ibis said before my collar stopped vibrating, a heavy sigh escaping me at her words.
Seriously...I was tired of her thinking the guy was going to pounce on me just because I keep telling him I’m not interested! It’s been three long years and he hasn’t done anything to me yet, though he was a huge flirt who seemingly couldn’t keep it to himself. I understood that there was more underneath the surface, Ibis? In all honesty, she was merely an outsider looking in.
“C’mon Deimosa, let’s go and enjoy this.” I huffed, patting my thigh a little to signal her to follow me before we walked out of the cabin.
‘As well as try to figure out how to tell them the news along the way...’ I thought with a small groan.
A celebration to celebrate gaining new territory as well as a secret goodbye party, I already knew how the village was going to act!
Either they’d get madder than a firecracker and try to force me to stay or they would begin to throw a hissy fit and cry about it until I turned around and said I wasn’t going to leave! But...in a way, I could understand their reasoning for potentially doing so. Though it seemed like it was a long time ago, it was only a few years back since I had saved this village from self-destructing on itself in a way! It was hard but I’m proud of what I accomplished, not just of what I’ve created but also of what the people have become.
From cowardly goblins who were being driven to extinction by wolves, to warriors who worked together with their former enemy and were absolutely thriving! They eagerly sought-after adventure rather than me trying to convince them to do it themselves! Goodness...If only my family could see me now, I suppose they were right in a way when they mentioned I should go into politics or business.
“Lady Eos!” The village cheered as soon as I arrived at the clearing of the village, the entire place decorated with colorful streamers that ranged from white, red and golden, a huge bonfire in the center while the scent of wine and delicious smelling food hung heavy in the air!
It was, for a moment at least, enough to make me want to ignore Ibis’ orders! After all...where else would I be able to enjoy awesome celebrations such as these?
“Please my Lady, try the wine! It’s specially by the town chefs!” Giggled a servant, her fellow servants right behind her with plenty of wine on beautiful trays.
A beat of sweat rolled down my neck while memories came back. ‘No way am I going through that again...’ I thought before I quickly shook my head.
“No thanks, I’m not much of a drinker.” I laughed, dismissing them with a wave of my hand before the servants with trays of food began to come up.
And...to say the least, I accepted it with absolute glee! From salted fish skin that was clear of any scales, smoked venison from the meat of the infamous Rogue Elks from the west, to even simple things such as turkey and berries! This village...with all the food they continuously gave me, I was surprised I wasn’t a little chubby at this point!
“You eat like a dog.” Suddenly commented a disapproving voice as I was in the process of licking my fingers clean of the sauce.
The intense feeling of a glare, the sound of stomping hooves...who else could it be? “What do you think I am?” I snorted before I put my plate down, Ares letting out a sigh as he took his spot next to me, my eyes widening a little.
His hair...it was no longer braided! It was down and in a ponytail with a small silver pin going through it. Though it was a small detail, Ares with a high ponytail? It suited him, along with the belt that held a pair of spears around his waist.
“Someone’s all giddied up.” I laughed before he let out a scoff.
“I felt that I was needed for a change in style.”
“You’ve been needing a change in hairstyle for years dude.” I joked, Ares narrowing his eyes before he sighed and gave me a pat on the head.
“Years go by and you don’t change a bit...it’s almost admirable.”
“Almost?”
“Well, you need to be more of a lady. You have a legacy behind your name.” He said, my brow cocking a little.
Exactly where was this conversation headed?
I scratched the back of my neck awkwardly. “I guess I have a legacy behind my name...not like it means too much of anything.” I huffed.
“It does mean something, what if you were to have children one day? They would be there to continue things. You need a husband.”
My eyes narrowed, so that’s where the centaur was going with things. I could barely even contain myself from groaning! This conversation, again?! I didn’t need a husband nor people to continue my ‘legacy’. I was fine on my own!
“I don’t need neither of those things Ares, I’ve planned to turn over the role of Chieftain to one of the goblins when I eventually kick the bucket.” I sighed, a part of me beginning to wish I had taken the wine the servants had offered.
Ares grumbled a little. “You trust these goblins with something as important as being Chieftain? They wouldn’t last a day! They are far too dependent on you to even think of taking over the title.” He spat, my eyes narrowing a little as I turned my head to look up at the centaur.
“Then clearly you are blind to the fact of how much they’ve grown. They conquered the territory all by themselves! Only with me to command them and the wolves to aid them, you’re wrong Ares.”
“Then what? You’ll turn over the role to the Daemoniums?! Absolutely not.”
My eyes only narrowed even further; this was the last thing I wanted to talk about at a celebration. I already had enough on my mind seeing as I had to tell the village that I was leaving and, not to mention, the fact that I was going to the Desert Continent! A place riddled by war...perhaps I would need to back an extra sword or bow just in case.
“Ares-”
“I am not trying to upset you.” He interrupted with a sigh.
I scoffed. ‘You failed at that one...’ I thought before I crossed my arms.
“After all these years, I consider you like a child to me. Family. And as family, I wish only the best for you and anyone that may come after you.” He huffed as I took a nervous bite out of a chicken leg before I let out a sigh.
And him...he was like family to me but, like family always never seems to fail at. It was getting on your nerves at times.
“Then, if you see me as family, you’ll understand that I hate talking about matters of getting a husband and all that.” I grumbled.
“I’ve worked hard for everything I have right now. I dealt with slavery from Orcs, torture and even the real possibility of dying a few times! Who’s to say that my husband won’t take everything for himself?! Money, my title and everything!”
“You’re paranoid-”
“It can happen. Screw marriages and all that crap, I’m not getting married to an elf, centaur or even another human!” I interrupted.
“I’d rather risk kicking a dragon in its ugly mug then deal with that crap.” I continued, Ares merely nodding his head before he went quiet on me.
However...that didn’t mean the constant need to bother me was over.
“Eos! As usual, you look absolutely gorgeous.” Ryzel said as he suddenly walked up to me, my cheeks flushing a little while I could already feel the anger radiating off of Ares.
Why...why couldn't I just have one peaceful night?! No talks of marriages or flirtatious Incubi to deal with.
