The highest position in the kingdom is the king or queen, and currently there’s a queen in power. The second highest position are the guardians, the ones that keep the king or queen safe at all times. They travel with them, stay by their sides, and fight for them. To become a candidate for a chance to become a guardian, one must have great strength and be nominated by a person of power. From there on, all the candidates participate in various trials, and the one that rises victorious is given the title of guardian. Currently, one of the queen’s guardians is an extremely powerful fire auryon named Maika. She guards the queen for most of the day to then go home to her son Oli.

In Hartfel, people who are not auryons are looked down upon and harshly mistreated, and very few resources are spent on them since they are not the ones in power. They are also not allowed to go to the same schools as auryons, since they go to prestigious ones. The only exception to this rule is Oli, who is quite the strange case. It is unheard of for a child to be born wingless to two auryon parents. Age five is the oldest someone can be before developing their wings, yet Oli is already ten years old. Therefore he is allowed into the auryon school because he is technically still an auryon even though he doesn’t have his wings, but mostly because of the authority his mother holds.
