"And what of Ogrul?" Brandyl asked.
Plum looked away, she couldn't bear to look her father in the eyes as she told him she didn't know of Ogrul whereabouts or his fate.
"Don't worry about Ogrul," Brandyl took in a deep breath. "He knows how to take care of himself. "But still, I can't believe this is what the horde has come to," Brandyl clenched his teeth. "Murdering pregnant women, poisoning the chieftain like some lowly coward, playing mind games like humans. Has the horde lost all it's sense of honor? How could they follow someone like Gor'lok." Brandyl grunted. "Our ancestors must be turning in their graves."
Plum quietly slurped down a warm bowl of stew in one gulp. Then helping herself to another bowl, then another.
Her hands weren't shaking anymore and her color was beginning to come back.
"When was the last time you ate Plum? This is your third bowl." Brandyl said.
It was no surprise he hadn't noticed her condition with the way she was bundled up. She opened her coat and Brandyl eyes widen with delight. His hands gently touching her belly.
"I'm going to be a grandfather, "I'm going to be a grandfather!" He hugged Plum.
Tears flooded Plum's eyes, it was hard for her to be happy and celebrate when all she could think about is Urim.
"You're worried about Urim," Brandyl replied.
Plum nodded her head yes.
"Chieftain Urim is strong, he won't be taken out by the likes of Gor'lok," Brandyl said.
"But Gor'lok is gathering allies and there's no telling how many he has already," Yotul said.
"I've known Gor'lok since he was a child and I never thought him capable of such a thing," Brandyl said.
"That's the thing," Plum said. "I don't think it was his idea. I believe Dura put him up to it. She didn't exactly take the union of me and Urim well."
"Enough to kill Urim and start a war?" Brandyl said.
"Never underestimate what a woman will do over a broken heart," Yotul said.
"Even up to killing the very orc she loves?" Brandyl asked.
"I think this is more about Plum than Chieftain Urim," Yotul said.
Plum focus on her stew, she never thought she was the reason for this.
Brandyl clenched his jaw closed his eyes and let out a low sigh deep from his throat.
"Yotul," he growled. "Plum is not the reason for this treachery. If it hadn't happened now it would have only happened later. A traitor is a traitor from the heart not because of circumstances."
"What are we going to do," Plum said, breaking the awkward silence between Brandyl and Yotul.
"We are not going to do anything, you're going to stay here and focus on having my grandchild," Brandyl said.
"But-"
"No! Buts," Brandyl interrupted. "Urim entrusted you and his unborn child to me. He knows I'll do whatever it takes to keep you safe. When Urim returns he'll want to see a healthy wife and baby."
"What will you do then?" Plum asked.
Brandyl eyes lowered towards his weapon, he never thought he would have to use it again. He was old and wanted his days of fighting to be over. But his daughter needed him as well as his horde.
It was a sleepless night for everyone. Plum rubbed her belly as she thought about the times Urim did the same. His whole hand swallowing her tiny belly. She wanted those days back, she wanted Urim back.
Her father's word repeated in her ears, stay here.
Plum couldn't do that. If it were her she knew Urim would blaze a trail of orc rage for her and she would do no less for him.
For her family, for her unborn child, for her husband, and for the horde she would fight.
Brandyl shielded his eyes from the morning sun as he stepped outside and let out a wide-mouth yawn.
"What are you doing?" Brandyl stopping mid-yawn.
"I'm going with you," Plum insisted.
"You-"
"I'm going with you, " she repeated louder.
Brandyl grunted with disapproval.
"If you don't take me I'll just go off on my own," Plum replied before Brandyl could protest. "I'm part of the horde too."
"I know," Brandyl said. "That's not in question, but..."
"No buts, I'm going, Gor'lok put my family in danger, and as long as he lives the whole horde is in danger."
"Ok, ok, I get it. You can come" Brandyl reluctantly agreed. "But don't push yourself."
"I won't," Plum smiled, rubbing her belly.
"The first sign of danger you run and hide. Do you understand?"
"I do," Plum answered.
"Do not, I repeat do not put yourself in any unnecessary danger."
"Ok, I won't."
"Fine," Brandyl grunted. "You can come."
Plum smiled big and gave Brandyl and kiss on the cheek.
"I can't believe I'm agreeing to this." He said.
"I'll be careful," Plum said. "I promise."
My baby is all grown up Brandyl though holding back his tears. He was so proud of her.
"Urim is going to kill me," Brandyl whispered dropping his head.
