Cassidy was still steaming when she went to choir.
Choir was really just a filler in her schedule. Cassidy was a senior, who had taken Choir and Drama for years, so she knew pretty much everything there was to know about singing.
Cassidy didn't even make it to her seat before being attacked by the giggle-girl junior: Linora Brown.
Linora was sweet. Really sweet. The kind of sweet that came from eating cotton candy three times a day.
She literally baked cookies whenever she was upset.
"Guess what?" Linora shrieked. "I met this super sweet boy at a family party last week. And I think he might like me! He smiled at me. He was so handsome. Like, drop dead, dark beautiful."
This was a constant problem. Linora's parents were religious, so she wasn't allowed to date until her 16th birthday, which she had a countdown for. She was ridiculously boy crazy. Any new boy she met, she got a crush on.
And then she flirted with them.
And did that thing that girls did in elementary school, where you half stalk them, trying to find a way to 'accidentally' bump into them.
Linora liked boys.
She fell hard and fast, even if there was nothing on the other end.
And she always ended up feeling wounded in some respect or another, whether that affection was returned or not.
"When is your birthday again?" Cassidy hinted.
"Only 3 months from now! I'm so close!" Linora sighed.
Mmm-hmmmm.
"You know, you can do a lot in three months. Like learn a language. Or move countries. Or learning a new language because you're moving countries."
"So?" Linora challenged.
"So, there's a lot you don't know about the next three months, or this guy that you haven't even talked to." Cassidy pointed out.
"I think he's a senior." Linora continued.
"Oooo. Spicy. Going after older men, now?" Cassidy teased.
"His parents said he's transferring to our school!" Linora announced.
"You learned about him through his parents?" Cassidy asked.
"The point is, that he's super hot."
"You think everyone-"
"I know you think I think that everyone is hot. But really, he is! Even you would totally crush on him. And with him going to our school, I have a chance!" Linora bit her lip-glossed lip.
"I am not helping you seduce strange boys." Cassidy warned. "Because that's both dangerous and creepy."
Linora rolled her eyes.
"By the way, how is your project in history going? Are those idiots still being rude?" Linora slid into a chair next to Cassidy, fluidly changing the subject.
That was one thing that was great about Linora. She remembered everything. She was a social butterfly, but she was attentive. She was almost motherly, constantly making sure that everyone felt like they had a place in a conversation.
"Nah. Dumb jocks don't change. Even untalented ones from Baylor High."
Linora giggled. "They are pretty bad. I heard that people go to the football games to watch us lose."
Cassidy shrugged. She couldn't say that wasn't true.
"I wish Mr. Gurshed would tell them to shut up, because then we'd actually get things done. Our group needs some serious help." Cassidy groaned.
"Text me if you need help with something and I can do stuff. I'm great at research and projects." Linora informed her seriously.
"I'll keep that in mind, but I wouldn't want to steal your time away. I know you have stuff to do."
"What?" Linora snorted. "Like sing during choir class?"
Cassidy smiled. They never did anything during class because everyone just learned the music at home.
"I'll text you if the train gets derailed, but for now, we've been making the deadlines."
"Speaking of deadlines," Linora interjected. "Are you planning on trying out for the play in a few weeks? I know Quincy is directing it, and I heard he wanted someone who can sing."
Cassidy shrugged.
"Eh. I don't know. Maybe I'll be busy."
"With another book?" Linora responded.
Cassidy laughed like that wasn't true, and carefully pushed her book farther beneath her bag with her foot.
