I let out a heavy sigh, closing and reopening my eyes to look at the Incubus with a glare.
Who was I to deny what my heart wanted? No matter how stupid it was.
“Fine, come on here.” I sighed, the sight of Ryzel’s eyes widening until they rivaled the oncoming moon above tearing a laugh out of me.
Finally! I manage to surprise the usually smooth Incubus! I say that’s achievement worthy. However, as soon as the expression came onto his face, it quickly faded away to one of confidence while he scooted closer and turned his cheek. I couldn’t help but simply stare, my cheeks burned, my heart started to race and all sorts of thoughts ran through my mind!
What if my kiss was terrible? What if my lips were dry? I haven’t one lick of chap-stick for years! What if- what if this was just a cruel joke...? Another classic case of me getting too ahead of myself, instead of rushing into a field of flowers, I was rushing into a field of flowers. I quickly shook my head.
‘No, forget that bastard Eos...he’s flirted with me this long. He would’ve given up by now if he were trying to trick me...’ I thought with a sigh, giving myself more time to mentally encourage myself before I quickly leaned in to give Ryzel a kiss.
Quick, short and simple. Nothing more, nothing less!
“Ah, the kiss of a maiden! Your lips are quite soft.” Ryzel smirked, the sight of his eyes glowing more brilliantly than before making my own eyes begin to widen. He slowly started to lean in.
“Hm...mind if I have a second one, my Lady?”
“I-I...”
“I know you’re not trying to lie with her in the middle of an open field.” Suddenly said a dangerously low voice accompanied by the sounds of hoof-steps.
Ryzel let out a sigh before he scooted back.
“I would never, I’m not so crude as to do it where anyone could walk by.” He huffed, Ares using his leg to gently nudge me towards him until the point I was underneath his belly.
Though it was sweet, I didn’t exactly feel like getting a bruise from his hooves!
“...I beg to differ.” He grumbled before he let the rocks and wood fall from his arms, causing him to quickly move over to lie beside me while he started to set up the fire.
“Talk to him.” I mouthed to Ryzel with a narrowed eye, the Incubus’ brow rising a little before he sighed and looked towards Ares. No need to have any words from me...I just needed to sit and make sure no one tried to kill each other.
“Exactly how did you come to even start guarding Eos Ares?” Ryzel asked as Ares just finished setting up the wood, causing me to quickly throw a small fireball into it.
Ares let out a grumble. “Why do you need to know? I have no reason to provide an answer to the creature that tried to sleep with a woman in the middle of an open field.”
“I’m curious, we might as well get to know each other since we’ll be traveling together. Besides, you kind of owe me seeing how many times you’ve tried to kill me.” Ryzel sighed.
“I owe you nothing.” He spat, causing me to quickly smack him gently on the shoulder.
‘Just answer him.’ I mouthed.
He let out an annoyed sigh. “Hm...I began guarding her when I was forced to take an oath by her Guardian. To serve her until I died.” Ares answered with a sigh.
“Do you regret taking the oath?”
“I had no choice but to take the oath, I wasn’t pleased with the idea firsthand of guarding a child who seemed rather ditzy but...I’ve grown to love the task,” Ares said, my heartwarming a little at his words.
If that wasn’t proof that he was an absolute puppy on the inside then I didn’t know what! Simply talking and listening to the guy...it was the sure-way to at least make him remember your name rather than think of you as another burden on his shoulders.
“...Tell me this Incubus-”
Asking questions...always a good sign! “Why do you continue to lie to yourself about one day winning the girl’s heart? She will not accept you.” Ares asked, the sight of Ryzel looking my way with a small smile making me flush a little.
“Simple, no other wench appeals to me as she does. I’ll win her heart, even if it takes me all my life.” He said confidently while my heart only beat faster.
If it wasn’t confirmed then...it was confirmed now, somehow, I managed to gain a crush on the idiot. Who would’ve thunk it? That has years of flirting actually managed to imbed their way into my heart and mind. However though, I wasn’t in a rush to get into a relationship anytime soon...whether it was harsh or not, I was going to drag out my time of being single for as long as I could. There were still things that needed to be seen...to see if he was just after me in bed or if he was really after my heart.
“She will reject you, too stubborn to ever allow someone to be by her side permanently,” Ares grumbled.
“Good thing I’m stubborn as well then hm?” Ryzel grinned, the mood slowly but slowly going silent.
Finally...after all this time of knowing these two, having to suffer multiple awkward instances and encounters where I thought they would actually attempt to kill each other. It was finally comfortable!
I could breathe...though it would be a while before it would officially get to that instance, at least the two seemed to be on their way of having some type of friendship.
“Well! Aren’t y’all having the loveliest conversation?” I giggled as I clapped my hands together eagerly, the sudden sound of snore making my eyes turn towards Shiro.
Fast asleep...one day, I would have to get to know him a little bit better than I already did.
“I have a feeling you may have forced him into doing so little girl.” Ares sighed before I let myself fall onto his side, the feeling of his warm coat making me grin to myself happily.
“You have no proof of that.” I chuckled.
“Not unless I decide to tell him.” Ryzel chimed in.
“You wouldn’t!”
“I would, at least...we can settle a more worthwhile deal?” He smirked, sending another wink my direction before I could almost feel the anger begin to radiate off him.
I quickly gave him a small pat, they were doing so well, I wasn’t about to let Ryzel ruin that because of his flirtations!
“Since we shared some things about ourselves, why don’t you share a few things, little girl?” Ares suggested before he suddenly took my bag, digging through it a little before he pulled out a loaf of bread along with some wine.
Didn’t the guy know how to ask first?! Then again...I wasn’t exactly a stranger to randomly digging through things as well.
“There isn’t anything you guys don’t already know.” I chuckled before I turned over onto my back to make myself comfortable, the cosmos-filled sky above filling my mind with wonder and curiosity.
“Not exactly, you tell us you’re from another world but you’re never shared where! You say you had a family, what were they like? What did they do? Who were they? You continue to tell us that you’ve had a love for our type of world but you never shared where you get that love from exactly.” Ryzel said before he dared to scoot closer to where Ares and I relaxed.
I could admit, even though I never really had an issue with sharing my past, that didn’t mean that I wasn’t affected by time as well. I had already begun to forget slowly what my parents looked like...I’ve even forgotten what the name of my former school was! So many thoughts and chores invaded my mind on the daily that it naturally took over the thoughts that were somewhat
‘Useless’.
“Well...I’ve already told you guys that I’m from a world known as Earth.” I started off.
“Texas, a pretty country state. Y’know how y’all used to comment on the accent? That’s where I get it from.” I continued with a chuckle before I made a motion of tipping my imaginary hat.
“What about your family?” Ryzel asked.
“My family was...pretty average. They loved me and I loved them, my mom was the calm and collected person of the household while my dad was the excited and energetic one. Every day was like Christmas with the guy.” I chuckled.
“My mom, Diana, was a nurse and my dad? Ethan, he was an average scientist.”
“Scientist?” Ares said curiously.
“What’s a nurse? Is it like our worlds medics and healers?” Ryzel gasped, a chuckle escaping me at their questions.
“A scientist is someone who studies science, I was personally a huge fan of learning about the human body when I was younger and yes! A nurse is like a medic or a healer, but...more of an assistant I suppose?” I grinned.
“Why would one need to learn about the human body?” Ares grumbled.
“To know more about yourself? Y’know...where your lungs are, kidneys and all that! Not to mention, learning what they do.”
“Hm, what do kidneys do then?” Ryzel asked with a grin.
I let out a sigh before I sat up, my relaxation beginning to drift away with all these questions. How strange...I forgot people’s faces but I still managed to remember certain things from school.
I suppose one never forgets the things that remind them of a little bit of home. More or less I suppose.
