Chan ran all the way from his house to the beach to swim in the salty water. "Chan! Honey, slow down!" His mother yelled. "I am slowing down you're just not fast enough!" Chan yelled as he jumped into the water.

The woman walked near the wet sand and sat down. "You're gonna be the death of me." She said with the sweetest of smiles. "Well then you were killed by the best of the best." Chan said, throwing himself on the sand

. After five minutes his mother stood up and wiped the sand of her dress. "I'm gonna make dinner, be back at sunset." She said, kissing the young boy's forehead.

"Got it." He said smiling and showing his dimples. His mother walked off. Chan jumped onto one of the many rocks on the sand.

He balanced as he walked across each of them. All of a sudden he heard a splashing sound near him. He smiled to himself. "Please let it be dolphins, please let it be dolphins."

He chanted in his head. But when he got near the rock the sound came from it was definitely not a dolphin. "Holy crap!" he yelled. The thing in the water turned his head and faced Chan wide eyed.

He was about to dive into the water but Chan had jumped onto him. "Get off!" The creature yelled. Chan kicked himself away from the creature. "Wait, wait, what are you?" Chan asked staring at the boy who looked around his age.

The creature lifted a large mint green tail. "What's it look like I am?" The boy asked. "A mermaid?" Chan replied. The boy giggled and shook his head. "Close, but no." "Merman?" Chan asked again. "Yep! I'm a merman." The boy said smiling.

"What's your name?' Chan asked more curios than before. "Hyunjin." The merman said. "Yours?" The merman asked. "Chan." He answered. "I like that name." Hyunjin said, before giving a smile and diving into the water as he swam away. "Wait don't leave!" Chan yelled as he dove into the water, swimming as fast as he could, but by the time he was out of energy, he could barely see the rocks.

It was almost sunset and luckily Chan found his way back. He was laying back on a rock staring into the pastel pink sky. He realized it was sunset and jumped off the rock and ran back to his home.
