“Shall we try again my beauty?” Ryzel asked with a snicker.
I nodded almost immediately before we walked off once more, I didn't need any help from that guy! There was always friendlier fish in the waters. I nodded before we walked off once more.
“Hello! We’re looking for passage to the Desert Continent!”
“No!”
Onto the next person.
“Hello! We’re looking to go to the Desert-”
“Goodness no! Never help a Daemonium with his talking beast!”
Rude...but, onto the next person nonetheless.
“Hello! We’re-”
“No.”
“You didn’t even hear what I had to say!” I called out as I watched the fourth person walk away from us, a fatigued sigh escaping me while Ryzel only laughed beside me.
I saw her only glare at me...was it because I was a talking dog?! In a world where wolves had human intelligence and they had gods that were literal talking animals, they were surprised by me?! That was ridiculous! However, I didn’t fail to shoot Ryzel a nasty glare; he should try asking these people for once!
“Excuse me laughter...it’s adorable to see you try so hard.” He snickered.
I shook my head, my patience was beginning to run thin...but, I had to give it another go.
“Seems like you want to forget about that potential date right-”
“Now, now, no need to be so ruthless!” Ryzel chuckled, causing me to let my tongue hang out playfully before I trotted off once more.
As Ryzel and I continued to walk through the docks, the black sky beginning to gain some color as my attention got torn away by the sight of the ocean waters from time to time. It was by the time I felt my stomach begin to growl that I had spotted two people at a small boat. A young man with raven black hair and tanned skin who was busy packing stuff up into his boat as well as setting up the flag and a sweet-looking old woman with silver hair and wrinkles lining her face as she calmly sat down on one of the boxes! Though I could’ve easily been wrong...surely an old woman would be a little bit friendlier?
“Hello.” I greeted as I walked up to the woman, her eyes cracking open a little before they fully opened in shock.
“My, what an odd-looking dog.” She commented with a soft-spoken, soothing voice.
“And what a nice-looking man.” She continued, causing me to chuckle lightly while my ears perked to Ryzel saying a small ‘Thank you’.
Nonetheless, I quickly shook my head and sat down.
“Ma’am, we’re looking for passage to the Desert Continent, do you know anyone who could do this?” I asked.
“The Desert Continent? My, why would you ever want to go there?”
“Business-related reasons, but do you know anything?”
“Hm...I hear all the town-folk talk about how dangerous those lands are...but I’ve never been one to listen to rumors much.” The old woman said with a small sigh.
“But I do know this, I heard my grandson talk about it once!”
My eyes widened a little, finally! Some actual information!
“There’s a pirate ship, I think they’ve docked not too far from here-” She pointed to the far right. “-They always give passage to travelers. Ask the captain, her name is Balstha if I remember...she should help you.” The old woman smiled before her grandson suddenly called her.
“Be safe on your travels.” She said, giving us a small wave before she walked off to the boat, causing Ryzel and me to look at one another before we quickly rushed off.
As we made our way to the pirate ship, weaving our way through crowds and crowds of sailors while I began to struggle to keep my sights on Ryzel. I was more than relieved when we finally arrived to the ship! It...wasn't exactly how I imagined a pirate ship to be, I’ve always imagined them to look beat up, falling apart in some places and having a flag that symbolized death in some way shape or form!
But...it was nothing like that, it was relatively clean and tidy. From seemingly freshly polished chocolate brown wood with holes in some places where the oars or canons would be, to a black flag on the top that had a picture of a white dragon on it! It was a fairly large ship, more than enough to hold many others and possibly a few extras.
“Not what I was expecting...” I said, the scent of liquor beginning to make my nose ache slightly.
Ryzel let out a snicker. “What were you expecting?”
“Not this! It looks so tidy!” I laughed before I sat down, my eyes beginning to scan for the captain.
Though it would’ve been nice for the old woman to give us some details as to what the captain looked like, I figured it wouldn’t be that hard to spot him or her! After all, if I was sticking to my hopeful side, I expected her to have a parrot or some large fancy hat.
“Where’s the-”
“How about I try to ask this time? You’ve been having a string of bad luck this entire time my beauty.” Ryzel suddenly suggested, my eyes widening slightly.
Him? Try to get us a boat? Though I would never say it out loud, he would most likely fail! People were pretty hostile towards his kind...I didn’t exactly wish to have him be gutted like a fish suddenly because he talked too smoothly towards one of the pirates.
“I’m not sure that’s a good idea-”
“Just trust me.” He said, causing my brow to cock.
“Have you been deaf this entire time Ryzel? People here don’t exactly like you.” I barked.
“Hm, look around us Eos.” He chuckled. I huffed but nonetheless did just that. Sailors...that’s all I saw! Though they all seemed to be women, that didn’t mean-
“Don’t tell me...you seriously think flirting is going to work?” I snorted before Ryzel nodded.
“Laugh as you want, simply watch and learn, if I manage to get us a boat...I think another kiss on the cheek is a fair reward.” He said with a confident wink before he walked off and onto the boat.
Whether he was just that confident or he breathed in too much of the sea air...at this point? I didn’t even know.
‘Darn Incubus...always thinking he’s as smooth as butter.’ I thought with a small snicker before I laid down to wait, letting my head fall onto my paws while my ears soon turned to the sounds of hoof-steps.
“Did y’all manage to find a boat?” I immediately asked.
“No, this port-town is filled to the brim with cowards,” Ares grumbled.
“Did Ryzel go onto the boat?” Shiro asked.
I looked at him and nodded. “He always thinks he’s so smooth with people!” I whined.
“He is an Incubus; their whole purpose is to seduce their way to victory,” Ares grumbled while I merely rolled my eyes.
Even still...that didn’t mean he had to do it with everyone! One day, the guy really needs to take a step back and notice how dangerous it may be...to charm all these people as if it was nothing. What? Did the term ‘jealous lover’ not exist in this world too? However, as Ares, Shiro and I continued to wait, the sun beginning to crawl into the sky while the town started to wake up more and more, it was by the time my stomach started to growl that I had finally saw Ryzel once more!
But...with a woman giggling and grinning right next to him. The woman was pretty! Curly, bouncy raven black hair, sun-kissed skin and a pair of big ice-colored eyes! I had to quickly shake my head a little as Ryzel beckoned us all to get on the boat, though the scent of perfume and oils started to drift in the air, there was no way that I was going to think about what the Incubus did to get us this boat.
“I’ll be expecting my reward very soon my beauty,” Ryzel said with a wink before I rolled my eyes.
“Sure, sure,” I said with a light chuckle, trying to keep the thoughts at bay before I quickly found a place to rest right next to the entrance of the boat.
“Everyone! Prepare to set sail! We’re heading to the Desert Continent!” The woman shouted proudly, a stream of cheers and shouts rising into the air before the busyness of the place suddenly increased.
All sorts of things started to mix around within’ me! The thoughts of what was out at sea and the land I was about to go to, the feelings of excitement along with the familiar but strange feeling of envy, the new sense of wonder of whether or not I head seasickness! I could barely contain the thoughts nor feelings, all I wanted was to arrive at the place and then get on with life! I mean...it’s not like there was much for me to do anyway in the Desert Continent.
Simply greet the new guy, kill this Socia person and then I was done! It was just another trip...nothing more and nothing less.
