Suddenly, however, just as the boat started to move, my ears perked to the sound of someone sitting beside me, causing me to turn my head to see Ares looking down at me.
His brow rose slightly. “What’s wrong?”
I chuckled. “Nothing?”
“You usually greet me sarcastically or with a joke that isn’t funny in the slightest.” He said, a small gasp escaping me.
I thought he loved my jokes! Then again...I suppose I should’ve gotten the gist when he barely laughed at any of them.
“I’m just thinking, I’m all scrambled up! I’m nervous, excited, angry and all sorts of things.” I admitted.
“Angry?” I sighed.
“I’m mostly angry because of the bird I suppose. I’m not exactly fond of leaving everything behind you know? The village, all my achievements and what-not...I’m attached to it.” I sighed.
“You’ll gain new achievements in the Desert as well Eos, try not to worry about it too much,” Ares said.
“Easy for you to say, you barely have anything,” I grumbled, a scoff escaping the centaur before I felt him pat my head.
“I have achievements, the type that would make you shed your fur in fear." Ares said with a chillingly calm voice, my brow cocking at his words before I ultimately decided to leave that part of his history alone.
After all, I didn't exactly feel like losing all of my precious fur.
"But, anyway, I have you, little girl, you’re my greatest achievement. Being by your side, as annoying as it is at times with your pointless jokes, it brings me joy.” Ares said, a small smile cracking through his features.
“Don’t forget that I’m with you until the end, no matter what comes our way.”
I let out a giggle, though I appreciated his words greatly seeing as it was rare for him to be so genuine, that didn’t mean that I still had thoughts of being nervous and wishing to go home. I’ve been in the Forest Continent for, in a way, all my life! Never once did the thought of trying to go somewhere else occurred to me...I took an oath when I decided to take over being the head of the village and that was to protect them, to lead them and to make sure they were always doing okay.
Now? Not only did they have to survive on my own, but I also had to do so as well! I didn’t have an entire village backing me up.
Only a Sabre-Wolf, a Daemonium and a centaur...I should consider myself lucky for those three even deciding to come with in the first place.
“I almost feel bad for keeping you beside me for the last three years Ares, you need a lady friend.” I barked.
“...My past wife was the only woman for me, there is no one else for me.” He said with a solemn sigh.
“Besides, a woman would only distract me, I need to focus on making sure you’re okay,” Ares said with a mournful tone before he soon got up and walked away, leaving me to close my eyes and once again focus on the thoughts of arriving to a new world.
Goodbye Forest Continent and farewell to everything I’ve made within’ it, one day I shall meet you again! As soon as I’m done dealing with the issues in the Desert at least.
