I Work For The Devil?

Chapter 1: So Much For Keeping A Low Profile - Part 1

Chapter 1: So Much For Keeping A Low Profile - Part 1

Apr 12, 2020

My head shots up at the sound of my alarm blaring. The outrageously loud ringing causing my head to bump on the headboard. I don't remember it being so loud? Groaning I reach to turn off the darn thing.

This was definitely not my favorite way of waking up.

Annoyance slowly seeps through me as I read the time on the clock... 6:30? My confusion is halted as I hear giggling coming from my closed door, which was opened slightly. My lips involuntarily quirk up at the familiar giggles. I get up, my blanket sliding off, shivering slightly as the morning coldness seeps through me, my body yearning back the warmth of the bed.

Deciding to humor them I slowly creep towards the door. Making sure to not make a sound, I reach the door handle and pull it open. The giggling stop immediately, and there they were... two pairs of innocent wide eyes staring back at me.

"What do you guys think you're doing?" I try to sound as demanding as possible but couldn't help the amusement that was slowly spreading across my face.

Both of them looked like deer's caught in headlights. Noah who was only five was still dressed in his pajamas. He had striking blue eyes, a definite inheritance he got from our mom and brown hair, which was all over the place, evidence he'd just woken up.

Frowning I look over to my sister. Her dark hair, which was similar to mine was in a tight ponytail and it looked like she had actually changed into a fresh set of clothes, unlike Noah. She's only 7 but had one hell of an attitude.

"This was your idea wasn't it, Diana?" I pass her a knowing look which she subtly disregards. She slowly stands up smirking. No sign of regret flashing across her face.

"Oh, well. You caught us." She raises her hand in mock surrender as she turns her head to face Noah. "But it was one hell of a show." This causes another set of giggles from Noah.

Slowly a smirk of my own forms on my face as an idea passes through my mind. In one swift movement, I grab her by the waist and start tickling, her one most know weakness. She burst out giggling, as she continuously wretches in my arms in an attempt to escape.

"S-Stoooppp." She screeches. "Gosh! you're g-going to mess up my hair!" She huffs out through her nonstop giggling.

"You brought this on yourself"

I stop, deciding this was enough torture for today. Diana immediately scrambles away, wiping tears that had escaped.

"You're evil!" She narrows her eyes and points an accusing finger in my direction.

I shrug and feign nonchalance. " You started it." Her face was slowly turning red from anger. I shake my head, with a hint of a smile. She's such a child. As if to prove my point she angrily stomps her foot on the ground and turns towards Noah.

"Let's get out of here." She narrows her eyes at me which I respond which a full tooth grin and stomps out of my room, followed by a disoriented Noah. Chuckling I make my way towards the bathroom, my mood slightly dampening as I realized I start my senior year today.

Sighing I look in the mirror. My long black hair was a mess and at the moment bore a very striking resemblance to a bird's nest. Two dull dark brown eyes stared back at me through the mirror blending in with my slightly tanned skin. According to my mom, I bore an astonishing resemblance to dad. A ghost smile plays on my lips as I remember my mom's words. You're like a girl version of your dad. My nightshirt sliding off my shoulder to reveal a large birthmark. I sigh and push it back up.

Snapping out of my thoughts I proceed to untangle the tangled mess which is my hair. Wincing at the occasional pain, I begin to wash my face letting the cool texture flow over my skin.

Going over to the closest I pull out my usual clothes. My favorite over-sized blue hoodie and black tights that go along with it. I grab my bag from the ground and stumble my way out of the door. The smell of freshly cooked bacon fills the air and my stomach grumbles in response. Mom comes into my line of vision as I climb down the stairs.

"In the end I gave her my shattered soul. What I didn't know is that she'd mend my soul back together and take my heart along with it." - Dante * * * *

Laura Clinton is an average high school girl struggling to finish her senior year. Or so she thought. There are four basic rules that she sticks by,

1. Keep your head down
2. Don't draw attention
3. Focus on studies

And the fourth rule that she's determined not to break...

4. No Boys

Now enter Dante Demitri. The classic lovable bad boy. Worshiped by girls and admired by all. From anyone looking from the outside he's got everything. From looks to money to popularity. But he's got a past that he's running from and adamant on keeping hidden. A past not of this world. Hence the faraway look and emotionless eyes.

That is until Laura Clinton comes crashing into his life... literally. Laura feels her morals slowly crumbling away. Can she afford to let him in? Can her sassy attitude and closed off personality shatter the bad boy's walls, or will she crumble alongside them? But what Demitri doesn't know is that Laura's got a past she's left behind as well. Sparks will fly, morals are broken, what comes next... only time will tell.
