Silas knew very little about Lycans, if he was being honest, even if they were a pretty predominant supernatural species. The most that he knew was that they were all lovesick puppies that liked feuding over land. He didn’t think he’d ever have to deal with any, witches mainly kept to themselves and so did shifters, so the fact that he was now in the middle of their territory was a little strange.
Their dwelling was a collection of modern looking houses in the middle of woodland, far away enough from the human town to set them apart, but not far enough to be separated from the community. It seemed deserted though, besides a few buff looking men and women who snarled as they passed. He tried to squash down his fear, stuffing his hands in his pockets as they walked, attempting to look bored. Dog’s could smell fear, right? He had never really felt completely alone before but being in a tense situation without anyone to have his back was disheartening. He almost missed his brother.
Almost.
They seemed to be approaching the biggest house, standing tall and proud at the end of the neighborhood. Standing on the porch was a small group of four wolves. They were in their human form, but the sheer power radiating off of their forms indicated that they were leaders. A woman, probably the Alpha, stalked down the steps as they made their way up the driveway. Her hazel eyes watched him carefully, like she was facing a threat. “I almost didn’t believe you when you said you found a witch in our territory, David.” Her voice was deep for a female, and her accent wasn’t very thick, but it still held that twang everyone seemed to have. “Yet, here it is.” It? That wasn’t very nice, “You all are dismissed back to your posts, we’ll deal with the witch.”
“Yes, Alpha.” David, the naked man who’d lead him here, confirmed his suspicions. He shifted back into his beast and was gone with his wolves in moments.
It was quiet for quite a few moments, the Alpha just watching him. He couldn’t make himself meet her predatory gaze, so he chose to look at the wolves lingering on the porch. They were all men, though two seemed to be older, around middle aged, than the other. One was built like a tank, all muscles that strained underneath a shirt barely fit him. There was grey in his brown hair though, revealing his age. The other man was much more slender and shorter, though he was still lean. He seemed much softer than the other wolves he had experienced so far, and he had kind eyes, even if his expression was apprehensive as he looked at him. The third male was more around his age, and even he could appreciate his appearance even if the guy wasn’t his type. His height was probably about the same as his own, and his eyes were this deep, ocean blue and he had light brown hair. The way the guy looked at him was a little weird, though, like he was stunned.
“Come inside, I suppose.” The Alpha said finally, turning on her heel and heading inside the house. “We have eavesdroppers.”
“Don’t want anyone to hear while you rip me apart?” He found himself asking.
The Alpha stopped to turn and quirk an eyebrow at him. “If I wanted to kill you, it would not be in the privacy of my home. Nothing unifies a pack more than the public defeat of an enemy.”
That answer eased his nerves enough to follow the alpha inside, the men following suit. He didn’t get to look around very well, as he was immediately taken into an office looking room near the entrance. It was a spacious room, with a big wooden desk and lots of comfortable looking chairs. No one seemed to want to sit down though, and even the Alpha just stood behind her desk. “What were you doing in our territory, witch? There isn’t a coven for miles.”
“I have a name, you know. It’s Silas.” He muttered, deciding to lounge on one of the plush looking seats, forcing himself to relax. He glanced over to the younger wolf, whose tan skin seemed to blush deeply, and he looked away. “I didn’t know that there were shifters here. I’ve never met any before.”
“That doesn’t explain why you’re here.” The Alpha frowned, “Where is your coven?”
“Necromancers don’t join covens.” He huffed. How much black did he have to wear for people to realize what he was? “I’m staying with my human parent for the time being.”
The Alpha raised her eyebrows, “I wasn’t aware that witches mixed with humans. I assume you’re staying in the human town just south of here? Who’s your parent?”
That had him pretty on edge. Why did they want to know this information? “You know, just because I’m a witch doesn’t mean I was never taught about stranger danger. You’re asking a lot of personal questions for someone I don’t even know the name of.”
“You may call me Alpha Aurora, Silas. This is my mate, Gerard, and my Beta, Jack.” She gestured to the two older men before indicating the younger, “And my eldest son, Cohen. Now, seeing as you are still underage, especially so since witch’s powers do not develop like other creatures, we cannot harm you under Supernatural law. But, if you are dwelling close to my pack, then we need to know where, so we can properly protect ourselves and you from any accidental meetings.”
“…I’m staying with the Stewarts.” He grumbled begrudgingly, and he did not like the way that the Alpha and her mate shared a look with each other.
